posted a message on The Grand Museum - Restore an old museum, gain donations to pay for exhibits [Construct]

I'm happy to hear you've enjoyed it so much to keep playing it, but I'm bummed I don't have another one for you. I started working on an inventor's mansion map in the same vein as this but it will take a long time to finish, if I get it done against all of the competing demands on my time. Not as much time as I'd like to make games with in the first place, and there are so many games I'm interested in making. A sequel to The Albatross set entirely in space also appeals to me, or on Roblox I'd like to make a large-scale co-op game of de-haunting an abandoned carnival. I have the means to make a mobile game for a treasure hunt where you find clues and treasure in real world locations, or I could design another Halloween escape room. I still have some ideas about making a card game about an Enchanted Forest where you're trying to lure magical creatures in to live there, and sometimes there's nothing better than hanging out with a few friends for a classic tabletop roleplaying game (maybe about the war of ants in Central Park, or defending an anti-missile base against saboteurs during a massive assault).

But I'll admit, there's something I found particularly satisfying about this map that makes me want to put another "Construct" game on the top of the pile. If nothing else, I'd really like to see more designers try it out, and if I could get another hit, maybe I could get a movement started.

posted a message on The Albatross - Survival Horror on a Frozen Planet [Construct]

    The Albatross Title

    THE ALBATROSS
Survival-Horror Adventure, Vanilla in Survival game mode, “Construct” game type.

You are a crew member of a freighter spacecraft, “The Albatross”, but something went wrong. Your ship has crashed on a frozen planet and you’re lucky to be alive. Diagnostics show extensive damage to the hull and several vital components have torn away from the ship. You’ll need to collect materials, recover missing components, and repair the damage. Unfortunately, you don’t have much time. The fission reactors have become unstable and the containment shields are failing!

    Features

    • Repairing equipment activates special features of the ship, including teleporters, ship shields, and the experimental Gene Splicer that combines your DNA with alien embryos.
    • Expansive terrain to explore.
    • Puzzling challenges to recover lost pieces of the ship. You’ll need a strong knowledge of Minecraft. Be ready for creative solutions!
    • Strange phenomena peculiar to the planet, such as tremors and gravitational anomalies.

    Recommended Settings

    • Vanilla Minecraft version 1.10.2 (too many changes to Commands to update to 1.11+)
    • Survival Mode on Normal Difficulty
    • 1-6 players. “server.properties” file can be found in save folder.
    • Server Properties with “allow-nether=false” (or just don’t go to the Nether… it’s not intended to be part of the experience. Nor is The End, so the stronghold portals have been dismantled.)
    • Server Properties with "enable-command-block=true" (lots of command blocks in this map!)
    • Server Properties with “player-idle-timeout=6”. Since there is a time element, you don’t want idle players. Just a suggestion.

    Gamerules

Just so you aren’t too surprised when things are working weird, these are the built-in gamerules used in this map:

    • doDaylightCycle is false (the planet is tidally locked)
    • naturalRegeneration is false (you’ll have to find other ways to heal)
    • keepInventory is true (the Albatross rescues your stuff)
    • mobGriefing is false (necessary because Endermen could make final repairs practically impossible)
