You broke one of Notches Rules. Don't complain about glitches.

I love the idea of combination locks. Each chest has their own combination, which you thankfully have in a convinient slip of paper. You can tell your friend to get to your house, and enter 1234 into the chest by the door, and to grab a few logs. (This would be better if you can also privately message your buddy.)

or just make it so they can only climb half-block inclines. Couple that with the idea put forward by i-forget-her-name about using two bytes per block so any block can be a half block, and you've got win. Send a few guys ahead to blaze a trail to your new home, etc.

I think I read somewhere that all blocks already take up two bytes... :tongue.gif: I'd still love to see a type of half block for every block though, since I'm sure 20-30 extra bytes or so shouldn't make any difference. It'd allow for real hills and stuff! :ohmy.gif:

Umm. Notch actually tried something like this. AND it was not working right. It almost made him regret adding stairblocks. You really want it?

When Notch decides to start on zombie survival, then he can give monsters the ability to destroy blocks.

Yea, there still ARE maps that were saved 30 updates ago. Those maps had everything.

posted a message on Notch: I have a potentially game breaking idea.. Do? Not do?
What about game files? What happens to those?

Here's an idea. We have, lets say 5 map sections to our east, our west, our south, and our north. The areas above and below us are much larger and take 4 map sections (like if we dug down in this section, and this section, we end up in the same general area). Also, there will be about 2 sections above and below ground level. So now our map is a 10*10*5 map segmented place. Now, since there will be a lot of areas to explore, it won't seem likely that someone is in every section.

Now, when a certain area is unoccupied, then the area can experience subtle changes, or rarely, drastic ones. (When the changes are drastic, everyone will know about it.) These changes can add materials, change caverns, be caveins, new hills, mountains breaking down, new plants, falling debree (think space debree).

    What do you think?

How about this? WE LET the servers decide if they want levels and XP. Think of it this way. A good server coder can add a spawn zone block, and a fight area and levels. (Of course, you may want to make levels a viable option for when they want to set up their server. It saves them the trouble.) A good coder can even impliment a phrase that makes a monster spawn. I think, that we leave this sort of things to the individual servers.

P.S. I think that you should test this in the indev server.

posted a message on Finite Water Problem
I found a way to fix it. When drawing water from the ocean, the water may want to stop umm, lets say one below what you want.

    [iron] =air

    :stone: = water

    :brick: =where you want water

    :stone: :stone: [iron] :brick:
    :stone: :stone: :stone: :stone:
    :stone: :stone: :stone: :stone:

This is the normal thing. Water will not want to continue. But, if you were to say, put dirt or any solid like this.

    :soil: =dirt.

    :stone: :stone: [iron] :brick:
    :stone: :soil: :soil: :soil:
    :stone: :stone: :stone: :stone:

Where the water stops on top of a solid block, then the water will run along that solid ground.

At one point, the water will eventually spread out where you can reclaim your blocks.

No, you Idiot. Goggles for seeing underwater. Goggles will make water easier to see through.

This is a good plan. Besides, we do need some way to rebuild glass. How about this? To rebuild glass blocks, we need 9 shards. We place them like if we were making iron blocks. But instead of one block, we get 9 blocks of glass. That way, we need to collect some? Also, kudos on that earlier idea of using glass shards.

Quite nice. I remember when I found that draining method. Except when I did it, I had to build a dam first. Then, it turned out that there was another opening that I had to dam up. I was wondering why it wouldn't drain.

(Note to self, make a stepping stone bridge.)
