First, I gather resources-meat for starting food, seeds for a farm once I'm more settled in. One wood pick to get stone for a stone one, then enough stone for two furnaces and a set of stone tools. I cut down at least 32 logs and gather the saplings, then turn 16 of them into charcoal and the rest into planks.
I run into the nearest decent-sized cave and start clearing it out. It will be ny home for most of that world, and if I don't get enough iron from it the first night to make a set of iron tools, something's gone wrong.
I don't know about you, but all I've ever wanted is 4 diamonds-one for an enchanting table, and three for a pick to get obsidian and set up a portal network. Never gotten more than 14 diamonds because I don't go out of my way to look for them.
That said, do what others already advised, but also try to get a pick with the Fortune enchant to make the most of it when you find them.
After playing the latest pre-release completely fine for a while on hard, I switched the difficulty to peaceful for a short while, then back again.
After a short while, i realized that hostile mobs are no longer spawning, regardless of what the difficulty is on(I tried each setting, and switching it back to peaceful and then back a second time).
Set to hard...
But devoid of mobs.
I already tried replacing the .jar, btu that did nothing, so I think the issue might be with the save file. At the very least, I'm going to save the map, but before then does anyone have any idea what's going on?
what about a shear like thing that is made especially for fire after you light a fire with flint and steel
Wow, way to necro a thread that hadn't been posted in for MONTHS.
There's nothing more to say here. We don't beed more armor, and there's currently no balanced way to add chainmail that makes sense.
I wouldnt remove any mob as well. Just fix the endermen, ether make them al least twice as rare as they are currently or find a way to keep them from dismantleing trees, forests are lookign crappier day by day. :blink.gif:
In the 1.9 per-release, they're twice as rare, have twice as much health, and can't be hurt with arrows. Much more fun.
Notch has said he will severely nerf what they can hold, so I guess we'll see what comes from that.
You know, I don't like hunger because it's a "minor grind". That wouldn't make sense.
I like it because it makes combat more difficult. You can't just take a shitload of damage, and then eat some pork and be fine. You need to be more strategic, especially when fighting mobs like skeletons, since you have to worry about damage.
When I first played 1.8, I found a skeleton spawner. What I would normally do (while playing on hard, mind you) is just run in, place torches while taking damage, and then eat food and not give a ****.
But in 1.8, I can't do that anymore. Health takes time to replenish, so I need to think. I needed to hide behind walls and make my own cover while getting closer to the spawner, and eventually had to dig my way in through the back so the horrifyingly fast moving arrows wouldn't murder me.
Minecraft combat has never made me think like that before, and I'm much, much happier with it.
EDIT:
Personally, I like the hunger system. Hunger makes combat a challenge. You can't just shove porkchops down your throat to instantly go up to full health anymore. When you're fighting, you have to know when to get out of the fight and recover your health. No more standing there and just taking damage because you have 4 cooked pork chops.
On the other hand, the health regeneration is a very nice feature. Most people don't walk out of large fights untouched (especially with the new skeletons), and it's quite annoying to have to overheal, and waste some food (a cooked porkchop to heal 3 hearts, for example). I'm sure many people also misjudge how high a fall is from time to time, and take a bit of fall damage. What do you do now? If you were me, you'd probably run back to your base, and heal. Hunger allows the small bits of damage you take to automatically heal, so you don't have to waste extra food.
The new stacking food (it couldn't exist with the old system; it would be overpowered) allows you to have more inventory space for mining expeditions and that sort of thing. A common problem was running out of inventory space because you brought too much food. With this food system, you only need to bring one stack.
Yes, there are negatives to the hunger system. We all know it's not perfect. Make the most of the positives, and try to overcome the negatives. All it takes is a semi-large wheat field, and you'll never have food problems again.
And I agree with everything this guy said, and he probably said it better than me.

If you aren't having fun playing, then stop playing.
Just stop.
It's not rocket science.

Just... try harder.

I'd say use the search function, but it's pretty garbage.
