Branch mining has gotten me almost all my diamonds. Perhaps you aren't ambitious enough with the scale of the mine? How long have you spent down there? My main shaft is very long, with branches going out about 50 blocks on each side. I've recovered dozens of diamonds, and spent hours doing it. It's a completely systematic approach, so just stick with it.
If you're really, really worried you are missing diamonds due to mining technique, download the map viewer Minutor (search the forum) and look at your save. It's a dynamic viewer that lets you change depth in real time.Or, if you don't want to look at the map yourself, post your save and I might check for you.
Great program, mrkite. I love it. The slider really increases interactivity and makes it easy to visualize cave systems, deposits, etc. Thank you for writing it!
