I REALLY doubt xbox gamers will be able to play with PC gamers. It has never happened in a game before so why now? It would mean less money for Microsoft because people wouldn't have to re-buy it to play with their xbox friends. If there was going to be cross-platform in that way, it probably wouldn't be for Minecraft.

I think by cross-platform they mean you will be able to share your skin or username between platforms.

Oh really now? Ever heard of Shadowrun? Or Universe at War? Or Final Fantasy XI, where you could not only play with PC players, but also PlayStation 2 players? Cross platform is definitely possible, and most likely will be implemented.

Microsoft and Mojang have said that it will be cross platform, so there's that. I'm sure you'll also be able to sign into Minecraft XBLA with your actual Minecraft account too, so you can have your skin/username.

In short, of course it'll have multiplayer. With both existing servers running and the framework of Xbox Live, there's bound to be tons of possibilities for multiplayer. I just hope that for cross platform, you don't need Gold to play on PC hosted servers.

    Ten points from Gryffindor.
C++ =/= Java. The amount of code conversion that's going to be needed is retarded. The PC/XBL userbases are large enough that there'd never be a lack of players anyway, why bother with cross-platform Minecraft?

Except...Microsoft has already stated that the PC version and the 360 version will be cross platform compatible. That's the only reason I'm saying that you can.

I hope not. The PC version will have to be stripped otherwise.

How will the PC version have to "be stripped"? How would making the game cross platform be a detriment to anything? They're the same game only one is played on PC and the other is on Xbox 360.

Minecraft on Xbox will have multiplayer. In fact, it will have multiplayer with the PC version of the game, so there! No mods isn't a bad thing, as Minecraft already has tons of content in and of itself, and many people like the default texture pack. The "low res" graphics are part of the charm, if you will.

All in all, I don't see why you should buy it if you already own it for PC.

It doesn't "ruin" Minecraft. It makes it easier on Xbox players. And it doesn't change anything. You still need the materials to make things, which are all the same. You can still manage your inventory...it literally changes nothing about crafting other than the way you access the interface for it, and how you "place things" in the crafting square.

Why does everyone assume that minecraft on xbox is so important. Its the same idea as minecraft on mobile devices, just a downgraded port to a different system. Though the xbox version has much potential, no matter what it turns out to be, it will never compare to the PC version.

Because it's not just a "downgraded port to a different system". It's a port of arguably the most successful indie game to the best selling console this generation. It's basically Minecraft, but played on Xbox 360. That's literally the only difference. And you know what? You can also play with PC players, on the same servers! Everyone wins here. Unless you don't own a 360. So it does compare to PC version, and always will, because they will be the same game.

Hummm, and isn't this is a simple 16 bit blocky game that doesn't need "amazing rendering"?

You would be surprised. There's a lot of triangles to be rendered on the far render distance. The Xbox 360's GPU is getting quite old. I'm sure it will be fine for Minecraft, but the point remains; the 360's GPU can be easily beaten by even the low end cards of today.

1.) Graphics: The same as regular Minecraft. Which is great.
2.) Texture packs, I can see them being allowed, maybe.
    3.) Mods: Nope. No way.
4.) Worlds: I'd assume they'd be the same because...
5.) Multiplayer: Is supposed to be cross platform compatible, according to Microsoft. I'm sure you could also just host an invite only thing over Xbox Live.

If you're just connecting modem > switch > desktop, it's not going to work. Switches can't retrieve or assign IP addresses. Routers can, however. That's where your missing piece is. You should get a router, so it goes modem > router > switch > desktop. That way, your router gets IP addresses for the devices being connected through the switch. Trust me, I have the same setup at my place :tongue.gif:

FRAPS is the best recording software available. I have one HDD (a laptop...) and FRAPS doesn't drag my computer down. Just don't have a lot of stuff open that reads from/writes to your hard disk and you'll be fine with that.

Everything else is a waste of time.

An original Droid Incredible. I rooted her and flashed CyanogenMod 7 on and haven't had problems since. She's getting a little slow, so I'm looking into upgrading, but I'm not sure if I want to waste money on an iPhone 4S or get a better phone that runs Android. Samsung Galaxy S II is a nice one...

Cross-Platform would be nice, but xbox 360 users would suffer done disadvantages in multiplayer, like:

And that's just a start. I think i could sit here for hours thinking of disadvantages for Xbox users.

And all of those would be valid complaints if Minecraft were a competitive first person shooter. It's not a competitive game. And lots of people already play with an Xbox controller. You don't need to look extra fast, and even then, you can crank the sensitivity. Typing on a chatpad is plenty easy and very fast. Plus, voice chat. And you can't attack any faster with a mouse than with a button or trigger.

It's XBLA just like there is no physical copy of Minecraft PC. It's just easier that way, I guess. And it will use Kinect, but it's not required to play.

No, because that will be impossible. It will be an arcade game, AND the two are both very different. It's not like they grabbed minecraft from the PC, and just slammed it into XBL.

Uh, it is possible. I remember Microsoft saying a few months back that Minecraft on 360 would play nice with Minecraft on PC. I don't remember where I read it, but if I dug around hard enough I could find it.

And yeah, they basically did take Minecraft and slam it into XBLA. It's going to be identical to the PC version.

EDIT: Yep, found it. Proof that Microsoft said it would be cross platform. It's most of the way down the page, but do a ctrl-f for Minecraft and you'll find it.

And yeah, they basically did take Minecraft and slam it into XBLA. It's going to be identical to the PC version.
