I usually just lurk here... But on this issue, I feel the need to speak out.
The EULA hasn't changed for MC for quite a long time. The part that restricts sale of in-game items or 'perks' of content that Mojang has created has always been there.
Just like back in school, there was that one cool teacher that didn't mind if you chewed gum in class, despite the rule against it. So you chewed your gum. But that one guy in the back kept popping bubbles loudly. So the teacher stops ignoring the gum, and makes everyone spit it out. You have to do it. The rule was there from the start, but only enforced when someone pushes things way too far.
Another analogy, Going down the highway at 5-10 mph/kph over the speedlimit. Usually a cop won't pull you over for that. But when they do, you don't argue that they were doing anything wrong, you take your ticket and get over it. YOU WERE SPEEDING!
The rule has been there. We were all aware of it. You had to click the "I Agree" button.
DO NOT lash out at Mojang. Take your anger out on the guy in the back popping his bubbles.
Edit to add: Also, I was the Admin/Host/Operator for a prominent niche-gaming community's official MC server. I started out paying for everything out of pocket. Roughly $100 month for this. Sure it was a small server, but that's still $100... per month... After the third month operating it, I asked people, "Hey, would you guys mind helping me pay for this server?" And you know what the overwhelming response was? It wasn't "What's in it for us", it wasn't "What are you gonna give us" it wasn't "Am I gonna get loot". The overwhelming response was "YES". Not only did I get enough funding from PURE DONATIONS to run the server for another full YEAR, but also to upgrade the server significantly and turn it into an amazing platform.
A good server CAN operate without SELLING items or perks. At the end of my server, I was running it at about $450 a month, on pure donations. I paid nothing out of pocket. I gave no perks to the players. They gave funding because they loved the server I provided.
Out of likes for the day. -

Do you people even understand what's happening?
You whine about pay to win and that's your reason to support mojang in denying donations to any and all servers?
This will be catastrophic if it actually happens, minecraft was built by the community and now mojang wants to on all of us just because a few servers made some cash while mojang made MILLIONS while having only like 5 developers? (it was 2 until a month ago or something).
This is a prime example of a company going mad and trying to enforce rules that worked perfectly in 99% of the cases all this time.
Servers cost, players pay, staff works to keep server updated: plugins, gameplay, world etc, even if staff takes some of the money they deserve it for their hard work. Surely mojang didn't make all those plugins and content for players to play, oh wait, they didn't even give us the mod api that they promised all those years ago.. (now they call it false claims)
Quote eula all you want, people will find a way around it, and if they try enforcing it with lawyers well then it's time to head to another game, because the makers of this one have rotten to their bone.
Really pathetic, what now? All heil the realms fuhrer.
Mojang has lots of developers. And everyone needs to chill out. If me, the lowly LDX, can run a server for 7 months without a cent of money from rank purchases and donations and junk, surely these rich 30-year-old server owners can quit scamming kids and host their server for free, am I right??

No, actually you can't sell mods nor plugins.
Go read Microsoft and Apple EULAs, you'll understand better how Mojang can make money.
A developper can still accept donations/generate ad revenue or be hired to make mods, giving the usage/distribution rights to his employer.
Do you know how many times I've turned down money for plugin requests??
Twice. -
Jun 7, 2014LDX posted a message on Minecraft Server Changes, EULA - A Brief LookI get exactly $0 a month to run my server. It's been running strong for 7 months now.Posted in: News

So basically you can charge people to join but not to get items?
What kind of...
Hey wait.
I could make world of warcraft in minecraft.
Code some plugins.
Charge people to play.
Charge people for dlc...
Hey guys, I'll just be erm... Doing private coding in eclipse.
Toodles!
Completely wrong.
Java programs are able to run on Windows, Linux and Apple os all at once, which means Minecraft too.
xBox, ps3 and iPod / iPad / iPhone versions have to be completely recoded however. xBox uses xbla, ps3 uses whatever ps3 uses and ios uses command C, or C#, whichever is right. I've never cared for ios development so I forget.

Sorry, what where you saying about them not selling things for 10k?
Note people actually buy this.

Actually they do. They wrote it in the eula when Minecraft was made. They specifically said you may not sell any things related to ingame minecraft for real life money which means servers are illegal. They will sue people if they do not follow it from now on.
Servers that sell things are illegal. -

1) This might be surprising for you, but for some people, motivations other than money exist. Some code for the love of coding, or the game, or the community. The same people that will abandon modding would have abandoned their mods when the cash stopped flowing in anyway. Besides... I've yet to see someone who can actually make a living off of adfly alone.
2) You mean "lose", not "loose".
3) Don't assume things just for the sake of doomsaying.
4) Don't pull numbers out of where the sun doesn't shine.

I was posting about that before Hunter came back. We all thought he was gone for good! All the players, including me, couldn't find a server anything like his. All the others had Economy$ and/or factions and/or chest protection.

That's another thing, I always build my houses with odd dimensions, as opposed to even.

How did you fix the chat lag?

Ehh, I could tell you, but that Roofed Forest is about 12000 blocks from spawn...
