Aug 3, 2011Kuhlaidmann posted a message on 1.8 Updates: Endermen or Farlanders?I like farlander, it invokes images of the Far Realm from Dungeons and Dragons, in addition it gives these guys a little back story, alien beings from the farlands, a place where the world itself is twisted. Plus enderman is too much like slenderman. Yes I know that's the idea, but really, we're just dropping 2 letters? Feels to easy, too much like a rip-off that way.Posted in: News

And my point for saying Minecraft is a lot of things to a lot of people had less to do with the hunger debate and more to do with just being tired of people saying "Minecraft is this, and should be played this way." Minecraft is a lot of things and people don't have the say to tell other people how the game should be played. It wasn't about saying Mojang should make everyone happy.

I do plan out, everything I do, and I already have stock piles of food. But keeping chest of food on the contruction site is a little annoying, and going back to get food is annoying as well. And don't argue what Minecraft is and isn't. It's a lot of things to a lot of people, that's what has made it so great, expressing a definite label only shows a close mindedness to how the game can be played.

From what I saw, cooked meat doesn't stack. If I'm digging this hole for 2 hours at a time, and assuming I only need to eat one pork chop every 10 minutes to take my bar from empty to full, that's still 6 pork chops an hour, for a total of 12 per trip to my excavation site.Just double checked, it seems the news is it stacks now. That is much more reasonable, but still, I'm mostly concerned that if this isn't implemented right, I will have no way to turn it off and Minecraft will just lose its appeal to me because it will just become to much of a chore. Although if done right it will be absolutely amazing, I still think my worry is well founded considering how poorly 'hunger bars' have done in games in the past.

When I first hear hunger was toggable, I was excited, I remembered Fallout: New Vegas's 'hardcore' mode. I cant play Fallout off hardcore more now because I love that food means something. Same for Minecraft, I love that my wheat farms will matter now, and not just be something pretty I build. But if I can't disable it, I'm worried it will turn into the Sims, where I'm throwing my keyboard against a wall because Steve is starving to death while I'm running from a creeper trying to kill the cow that got into my crops before night hits and I can't make it back to my house.

(off topic: damn, this is my 43rd post, I'm going to miss my 'The Meaning of Life, the Universe, and Everything...' title)

If Notch added mana that started killing you when you ran out I certainly would be complaining. I like to mine, gather resources and build, eating is little more than a nuisance at that point. Sure I welcome the addition, if done properly it adds an exciting element of gameplay, but if done poorly it can turn me off to a game entirely, and in my experience it is normally done poorly. Not having the option to disable it in a sandbox game seems like a poor decision to me.

Most likely they are purely aesthetic. Just another transparent block. Visual, I find it very useful for dungeons, castle windows, and such. The grey bricks have no purpose either other than looks as well, I expect iron bars to be the same.

Also, while blue spiders are definitely smaller, is it really confirmed they are 1x1x1?

My opinion on a minecraft style breathing system would by something involving pumplins, glass, slimeballs, redstone, and/or iron. Some combination of one or more of those things might do it.
Glass helmet?
with pumpkin maybe?
maybe work slimeballs in as a filter?
I think glass covered pumpkins magically letting you breath fits miecrafts flavor well enough.

No, its a reference to "The most interesting man in the world."
OT: Definitely using smooth lighting. Always do.

The problem here is, that if we take a Uranus situation. The north pole points towards the star at all times, because its gravitationaly locked. The only way for a Uranus type planet to orbit its star and not have its North/south axis pointed at the star is if it rotated on 2 axis and if the second axis was perpendicular to the orbital plane, and the period of rotation was equal, but reversed to the time it takes the planet to orbit its star. But even so, if orbiting on 2 axis like this, the star would make odd patterns in the sky, and if we say it isn't orbiting on the North/South axis, and only this second axis, then this second axis BECOMES the North/South axis

well, the minecraft world is flat, and even on all 4 sides. Go far enough in a direction and you eventually hit the end. In a world such as that, North and East are just names... So in my world, the sun actually rises in the Florq, which makes much more sense to me.
