Ive been playing around a bit trying to come up with a decent ender chest but i think ive been staring at it for too long and i cant make up my mind if i like it or not, so i thought id post it up to see what you all think and to get some constructive criticism.
And heres the unflattened pdn file if anyone would like to have a play with it
Spent some time tweaking background to make the numbers stand out a little bit more and tweaked all the orbs slightly.

I like it, although the furnace overlay is probably a bit too subtle, perhaps somewhere half way between your version and mine might look best.
I left an unflattened version for people to edit it to their liking. I make textures first and foremost for myself. Thanks for the creative gui's I would have found that a bit tedious.

Here's my take on the emerald ore and item, nothing fancy, the ore is just a colour edit of an old lapis alt I found, and the item was based on Jeb's original ruby.
And here's my ender chest:
Not bad, Have you tried making a border around the ender chest so that the top of the lid is more distinguished from the base? I think it would make a more unique texture.
Also, I had a really interesting idea for Exp orbs, well two ideas.
First one, little exp packages or just floating things that say "+5 exp" or something like that.
Second idea...Bees! Everytime I use my exp farm the exp flying around my heard reminds me of a swarm of bees. However, all of my attempts at a bee texture have failed, horribly.
Nothing for the cocoa plant yet for me. I like the idea of +5 xp and such but bees are a little strange. Kill a creeper deep underground *poof* attack of the bees ensues, kind of a situational thing that only makes a little sense to me on large amounts of xp. Another thing is the green and yellow orb color coded into the game. I might try to make some +5 xp orbs soon.

Have you tried having the base texture light and the "spot" texture darker?
