I've been trying to set up a private server for myself and a few of my friends, and it runs on the same machine I'm using to play from. I've port forwarded and have checked to make sure the port is open, which it is, yet my friends are still unable to connect to me. I also dont have a firewall blocking it either.
I know I should be using localhost to connect for myself, but I also tried with my 192.xxx.x.x:25565 and I am also able to connect that way, however my friends are not; they all get the "Can't connect to server" message.
I'm also not 100% clear on whether they should be getting that or my public IP, but neither seem to work.
Any help with the situation would be greatly appreciated because as far as I can tell, everything should be fine.

What Attracted you?: I've never tried any faction servers and I would really like to try it!
How often do you play?: I play in spats, generally go strong for a month or two, maybe 15 hours a week, then die down a bit to 5-10 hours a week for a few weeks.
Have you read the rules? Yessir!
thank you hmm i like the fog bit alot and what else would you make boats out of i ask you TNT??
please read the OP yes big workbench will be in there and more tree's.... yes quite possibly cause there wouldn't be enough tree's to make big warship's in your average minecraft forest
The fog is a good idea, however every night sort of defeats the purpose, as visibility at night is already low. Mornings till noonish would be better because it gives the eerie feeling of "survived the night, i'm in the clear.. almost". Plus the visibility decline will actually have an effect in this case.
is this really a mod in progress or is it just an idea?
if it is real it would be a good idea to post how far you have gotten and an approximate release date
It is in progress, yes. And posting approximate release dates is a bit tricky so early on because it still in part is in the brainstorming phase, which means we haven't finalized all that will be in the first release.
If you'll draw your eye to where this topic is located, you'll notice "Modding Discussion" is the location. This is for mod development and brainstorming. Released mods go to "Released Mods"..
Yes. Demo essentially means "demonstration", not "free restricted testing version for anyone to use" as many people think. Pbat doesnt have the "demo", he has the actual mod.
The demo does a great job at showing the enormity of and amazing amount of effort that has gone into this mod. I'm sure it will become one of the most popular mods out there!
make landmines urself, just a pressure plate with a tnt under it
It works.. but it is extremely visible, especially when surrounded by blocks that are not the same as the pressure plates. A block for a mine would be useful, especially if it could to some extent blend in with its surroundings (while still remaining ever so slightly visible to someone paying close attention).
thanks for the awesome ideas :smile.gif: i like the customization ship bit would be a bit harder to code but it would be a great addition to the mod
For simplicity's sake you could always add the customization in a later update once you get the core mod finished for a nice foundation to branch out. I do have some other ideas if you're interested. Feel free to PM me.
If you've ever seen the GUI of the crafting table for the planes mod, something along those lines would be excellent for the boat workbench (shipyard?). Maybe ships could be ever so slightly customizable, instead of adding 3 masts to a galleon, the player could add two (saving resources but sacrificing speed) or even not adding cannons (lightening the ship, increasing speed, especially if it is just for cargo). Also, specialized trees could be added that are necessary for specific components. Better ships would require rarer trees, like HUGE pines for large masts required for galleons. Forests of these would be harder to find and very rarely drop saplings in order to prevent exploitation. I've long thought about a mod like this so I have some ideas floating around up here :smile.gif: Looks good though!
Most of the key biomes are included in Minecraft, but I have yet to see a tropical one. A tropical one would look far more lush than normal ones. Grass would be a darker green, bigger, thicker looking long grass, dark soil, things like that.
Features
Along with those above, tropical biomes would have things to make it noticeably different than the other biomes.
Trees Trees are a HUGE part of tropical regions in the world. Rain forests are a must. The trees in these forests would be larger than normal trees, perhaps double the height and even thicker, along with having a wider canopy. The chances of the tree dropping seeds, however, would be drastically reduced as it keeps the forests from being commonplace. These large trees would also provide some good foundation for tree dwellings and whatnot too.
Geography
If it IS possible, the geography of these regions would more unique to them as well. More rivers, natural-looking waterfalls, valleys and cliffs, things to give it a real tropical/"Jurassic Park" feel.
Weather
I'm also not sure as to how possible this is, as weather (precipitation, to be specific) seems to be global. But assuming that could change in the future, here it is. Rain forests are, well, rainy! Rain would occur more frequently yet end quicker as well. Perhaps there would even be a point in the future where water levels in the area would even rise temporarily due to large amounts of rainfall to give the player a bit more of a challenge.

The only issue I am having is my water seems to be almost perfectly clear. Is this intended? I see some screens where the water is still bluish

Perhaps there should be a bit of a back story, just for fun.
i.e "it has been 52 years since the great creeper war..."
