Sep 16, 2014KoboldGiraffe posted a message on [Official] Microsoft has Bought Mojang and a message from Notch.I hope not, though I guess it's possible they'll add like a "Zombie Apocalypes" DLC which might include guns. But honestly, Mojang has been slowly moving closer to a more techy-guns-and-spaceships type of game rather than traditional farm/mining game.Posted in: News
Also, this reply feature is awesome. I've never used it until now. -
Sep 15, 2014KoboldGiraffe posted a message on [Official] Microsoft has Bought Mojang and a message from Notch.Read the article. They have reasons.Posted in: News
Also, Microsoft isn't planning to do anything drastic as of now. They understand why and how Minecraft became so big. They don't plan to doing anything stupid that destroys the community. -
Sep 15, 2014KoboldGiraffe posted a message on [Official] Microsoft has Bought Mojang and a message from Notch.Posted in: NewsI think people should celebrate that the deal happened. Huge potential for improvements to the game (can Minecraft be bug-free at last?) and MS will not betray an audience of millions of people. Of course there must be some gain for MS towards its phones and tablets, but i think those long-term changes will be relatively harmless to players and content creators. Least of all, youtubers have nothing to fear.
Precisely what I'm guessing will happen. There will likely be some sort of special features for MS products, but nothing that particularly effects the game or makes anything unfair.
Quote from Secretplop»Lets just all hope they dont decide to milk it of money until it shrivels and dies...
If not for the community, for them - considering they have just dropped 2.5 Billion on this
When has Microsoft really done this? I mean, they are a big company. But certainly not as bad as EA would be taking all the money. Microsoft seems to care more than people may think. -
Sep 15, 2014KoboldGiraffe posted a message on [Official] Microsoft has Bought Mojang and a message from Notch.I highly doubt Microsoft will take out Playstation or Apple etc. I do however expect Microsoft will add a "Platinum Edition" or whatever for Microsoft products. Otherwise, Minecraft will likely stay how it is. People don't really need to worry so much, Microsoft is probably a great thing for Minecraft.Posted in: News
I'm personally happy with this, they have the resources to deal with many issues and can certainly take Mojang to the next level. Though I am sad to see Notch and the other founders leave, I am also happy for this new age to Minecraft and Mojang.
Anyway, not a lot is said of their plans yet, so no one really knows. Though from what has been released, I can see that not much will change. They're not taking down YT videos, charging players monthly fees, etc. All will practically be the same, for now. -

Yes, but Beta wasn't available for Kindle and perhaps few other devices. We had to wait for the official release.
Right, I was replying to a few other people saying that this isn't new and it's been around for over a month. I was trying to tell them that was Beta, this is the official release which goes all on devices supporting Minecraft. -

Jun 17, 2014KoboldGiraffe posted a message on EULA Revisited: an Updated Q&A From MojangPosted in: NewsQuote from Kain1750
Actually, with some tricky editing, you could just put every minigame on a different server, and then charge access to those servers. IF you wanted to have them connect I'm pretty sure there is a way to do that too. I'm sure someone will figure out a way. Trust me, this is gonna be a lot better for Minecraft in the long run.
And to all those that are saying that this will be the death of Minecraft, I can not see how you are being more dramatic. One guy even said that this would be the death of the entire video game industry! Anyhow, all this is doing is evening out the playing field a little better. I mean, get over yourself and look at the big picture. There aren't that many servers that rely on soley the money they get from kits to survive, and if they do, they are doing it wrong. Sell cosmetic things or put up advertisements. Mojang is giving you the tools, you just need to use them.
The way I'm seeing this, is it is going to make it
1: Easier to get players (most servers will likely shutdown, which means finally the community will be more spread)
2: Harder to make money - It was already hard, I'm sure we'll find ways to fix this. I'm already working out ways.
I don't really fully support this, and if my server fails I will not bring it back due to this. But still, it's not the worse thing, I agree people are getting overly dramatic. Minecraft may lose a great number of players, but it won't die for at least a few years.
Though there's nothing I can confirm, so I suppose we'll just wait and see. -
Jun 14, 2014KoboldGiraffe posted a message on Mojang Announcement: EULA, and ServersA lot of servers don't even make profit, and even if they do it's usually just a few bucks. Most people enjoy having a server and playing with friends, they simply cannot afford it themselves. Donations are what keep everyone going, there are greedy servers. But not all of us are greedy.Posted in: News
I believe that the best solution to this would be simply adding a limit to how much can be paid and requiring servers to make it very clear that this is the SERVER they are paying and not Mojang. Though many of us have found ways to adapt to this new EULA. So this won't really heavily effect me, many servers will go down, might leave a lot of smarter servers. This will also spread players, there will be thousands. Which means it won't be as difficult to get a community as now. Currently there's just servers everywhere that people have just for the sake of saying they have one. If this goes through and my server fails I'm going to just create maybe plugins and probably mods.

Jun 12, 2014KoboldGiraffe posted a message on Mojang Announcement: EULA, and ServersSo, just to clear some things up.Posted in: News
I'm not exactly happy about this, but there's nothing we can really do.
For those of you not realizing, when you bought Minecraft, Mojang already said in their EULA that you couldn't make money, so all servers were illegal. Now Mojang is simply enforcing that rule, though they announced this, which means EULA's changing, you can make money, but they have rules.
Quote from Chaoisia
Honestly the play to win servers are only PvP servers. If your on a survival server with no pvp theres honestly no winning to be done except for surviving.
I agree, people are only seeing what mojang wants them to see. They aren't looking beyond that and thats the problem. Instead of it just affecting that small group its affecting everyone else.
Not all PvP servers, try mine before you suggest that.
I'm very fair to my players with donations, it just adds varity, no unfair advantages. Sadly it appears people won't be able to do even that now, but I'll learn to adapt, and if not, then my server will go down.
Anyway, people probably need to just leave this, other than possibly push for some changes. But it's Mojang's decision you have no "right" over your server. They own the game.
Another thing, for those of you saying what about your effort and such put into it, you don't own that, I'm a coder and I'm using the Bukkit API to code plugins, the Bukkit API gets code from Minecraft, meaning we do not own it, because without Minecraft, our "work" wouldn't work at all. They own it. -

All of these things were already prohibited by the EULA. These proposed changes are LOOSENING the restrictions. As for finding your hosts... that's not even remotely difficult. Every time a player connects to your server, your server contacts Mojang to validate their session. Heck... it took me all of 10 seconds to find out who your server hosting provider is, and I had no idea who you were before today, nor am I employed by or otherwise affiliated with Mojang in any official capacity.
I don't keep my hosting secret, or my server secret in anyway. You can find it, I'm not exactly fighting that. But a lot of people hide their servers. I'm sure they can be found, but will Mojang really go through the hassle? I'm not sure. Also I don't care much now that I'll likely be fine with this change. -

Mojang simply wants to kill off regular servers inorder to grow their own Realms.
I thought this to be very possible. But there is no evidence, however I can see Mojang trying this. Expecially since purchases for Minecraft are lowering, they're making less money, so Realms might've been their solution.

I actually thought about it and maybe this is good we have too many clone server guidelines like these will make people think harder and be more unique as to how the server may survive no more clone servers will be this result
Indeed, I've thought about this more after seeing all these comments, perhaps there are workarounds. This may change the Minecraft Server Community. I've been hateful and disagreeing the whole time, but maybe this will work...
But if it doesn't, then this could end a lot of things. -

Come on dude, why did you have to say that? Now I have to report you for endorsing illegal activity.
I mean before it's official. If this does indeed go through, I will have to shutdown my server before following these rules.
Though I have been talking to my CoOwner, we may have found a way to make money without declining their rules. So everyone will be happy. -

Some servers will die because of this, because there are some shady servers out there. I think most of the problems you predict are unfounded though. Most servers will have to make some adjustments, that much is true. But honestly, this is Mojangs game, and it's their right to insist on these policies. They own the code, pure and simple. It doesn't matter who is hosting the server or how much they had to pay to get hosting. As servers die and hosting companies find their profits fall, perhaps they'll get more competitive in pricing and trends will reverse. Either way, I can't believe that people actually pay for items in Minecraft anyways. Then again I've always hated F2P with a passion with very few exceptions (basically the few games I've played where F2P really meant F2P like Dota 2, Paths of Exile, and LoL all have a good, honest models that are not P2W).
I'm curious why you have to have kits that need to be paid for? Not being sarcastic, I'm really curious.
I have all my kits balanced out, so the kits are just bonuses that take a different route. The reason I need kits that require money is so that I can afford my server (this is my KitPvP server BTW, forgot to state that). I try to keep it as fair as possible and also giving my non-payers peaks at the new kits with the Random Kit and the cycling. - To post a comment, please login.

Microsoft is a pretty brilliant company, they're not idiots. They know Minecraft is good because of it's community, if they want to make any money, they need to keep that community happy. They acknowledge that. Microsoft will likely release some kind of DLC for Microsoft products, but I don't really think of that as a bad thing. Microsoft isn't planning to change much right now.
With Microsoft in command, this could be a new age for Minecraft and Mojang. Microsoft has the resources to supply us with practically no bugs and more frequent updates. Personally, I'm happy with this new deal made, though I am sad for Notch and the founders leaving, Microsoft is very fit to handle Mojang.

Whoa, I totally forgot about that being said... That'll be something that we'll need to address Microsoft with.

Practically every small company talked trash about big companies before they went big. It's no surprise Notch did as well. Plus he's gotten to know Microsoft over the years making deals with them, things change. They've become a good partner for Mojang, so they fit the company quite well.

Microsoft has the team and the resources to fix bugs, supply Bukkit with a larger team to get things going, faster updates, etc.
I don't believe Microsoft will take down Mods, Videos, or anything else community ran honestly.
Moving on to the future of platforms Minecraft is currently on. Microsoft does not plan to remove platforms from Minecraft, so your Playstation is fine. Microsoft will however likely add a "Platinum" Minecraft available to Microsoft products, I doubt it will include many unfair features or anything over the top. So no worries, Microsoft may just have some minor special features for their products, which in my opinion, is fair and fine.
Microsoft isn't stupid, they know Minecraft is big due to their community. And I doubt they'll release tons of DLCs to drain money from us. The future of Minecraft will likely stay practically the same as it is now, with a few improvements.

Anyway, thought I'd share my input on this and answer questions as they come along.
