Neverless, a 512x512xerm, 384 turns out to be only 96 kb. Whether or not this changes when downloading it I do not know.
Ah, sorry I was thinking divisible by 2. I'm using custom heightmaps on my server so it has a lot more data in it that regular random generation servers. That's why my file is so large. 1MB seems kinda low for a level size limit.

If I remember correctly, maps this size can't run properly on most computers. Have you tried increasing the ram allocated to your server?
If the map is blank it runs ok, just when it gets to over 1mb it doesnt work. I got the file size to .99 mb and it worked.
Quote from Darkebrz »Hm, for one, I do not suggest using 384, it has a lot of glitches, and maps should all be to the power of 2.
Still, I think that that is way to big for a map that small, but I'll check.
384 is a power of 2 and more importantly divisible by 16.
Aug 2, 2009I'm working on a new map and I've noticed that when the server_level.dat file goes over 1 MB the map fails to load. I'll go to the external URL and the progress bar will begin loading, but around 3/4ths the way through it will just permanently stop. If I close the window and check my server window there's an out of memory error for Java. Is 1 MB really the max size for minecraft levels?Posted in: Mods Discussion

After making my Underworld/Overworld map I wanted to make something a little different. A lot of people really liked the Underworld, and I wanted to edit that idea a little. This is a 512x512 labyrinth cave system. It uses 2 custom heightmaps. One for the cave floor and one for the ceiling. There's no end goal for this map, just have fun building. Again I thank Osici for his awesome map editor.
Good luck and have fun.

There was cave either side of it. It was just ONE room. Then when I tried to explain you just said "Yeah good job idiot." I hardly think that's appropriate, I didn't do anything wrong.
You were building a room in the natural tunnel that leads up to the exit. Its like building a theme park on top of Yellowstone. There are plenty of other natural caves to build in. Including making your own cave.
Quote from PuyoDead »This is an excellent map, I have to say. Very neat looking, and well made. The thing is, after 20 minutes of wandering around aimlessly, not allowed to build or remove anything, it just sort of stopped being interesting. We're being asked to wander around an entire map, looking for who knows what. Is it a large entrance? or just a small hole you drop into to find stairs? Is it around the edge? Near the bottom? In a pillar? In the lava? Does it need to be built to in a stalactite? It's a bit frustrating, really. And it's not like you can come back and pick up where you left off.
What would be nice, is if you made a version of this map that is just the underworld for people to build in. That would make for some very interesting builds.
You are allowed to build. If you read my post you'll see that it says that. There are also random admin messages that declare this. There's another message that says, "The exit is a natural cave in the large cavern."
Quote from Wolfram »I was told the underworld gets reset, which is the major lame aspect of this server. Otherwise, I enjoyed it.
Yes, I've commonly reset the Underworld, while leaving the Overworld intact. The problem is that the Underworld gets griefed badly by destroying stalactites and stalagmites and other random stuff. I've gotten to the point where I'm just going to let it go and see what happens.
