Erm, how would you prevent a player from making a scarecrow, then placing a coffin around it in order to attract mobs indefinitely? Would it both wear off with time and damage?

Like I said, mobs do not seek out scarecrows, they simply attack them if the scarecrow is in their range and over the player if they're both in the same area.

How about if the furnace cart is burning and begins to move for whatever reason, it would propel itself in that direction?

It could repel friendly mobs, and attract enemy mobs, a double edged sword for keeping your crops safe?

Makes sense. Only a sheep and pig would be afraid of a silly scarecrow.

I would like to point out that the scarecrow doesn't draw mobs into the area, it simply acts as a decoy version of you that would take priority over you if a mob is in range of both of you.

Actually expanding on my previous suggestion of requiring a diamond chestplate to act as a deterrent, this item could also be a manikin for displaying and storing armor.

Yeah perhaps dirt wasn't the best of suggestions. I dunno, maybe the stench of pork puts all the mobs off. And the scarecrow could go away after time whereas the attractcrow has a certain amount of health.

I just don't like the idea of deterring mobs, even if it deteriorates. You should only be safe by distracting, obstructing, or killing mobs.

Also I just don't like the name "attractcrow".

Am I the only person who wants something to stop mobs from spawning or wandering nearby? I would prefer a difficulty where nothing spawns. If i need anything, I do have nbtedit.

Nothing spawns in the Peaceful difficulty except for pigs and sheep, which are both non-hostile and easy to kill.

A bait is a good idea, but a deterrent is also very useful. Perhaps it varies depending on what materials you use? For example, using sticks and dirt makes a scarecrow and using sticks and wheat makes an attractcrow.

Well, the issue of creating a deterrent rather than bait is that there is no way for a mob to destroy it, it would avoid it.

Requiring only dirt and sticks means it's really easy to make it, which would mean you could quickly create a fence of them around your base and be mob free for life.

One suggestion I WOULD be behind as a deterrent is right-clicking a scarecrow and equipping it with a diamond chestplate.

Multiplayer Survival REQUIRES purchase. It's not like a banned griefer is going to make another account and come back. (If he does more money for notch so whatever).

First off this is way too complex for the rather simple style of Minecraft, secondly the smokestack pattern already makes Iron Boots.

:smile.gif: this is a great idea :smile.gif: i never seem to find mobs to kill, i think also maybe for every scare crow twice as many mobs will spawn in a certian radius, becasue you built it to kill mobs so more should spawn, so you could run into someones house place 100's and then they will have to dig a cave because mobs will be surrounding their house :smile.gif:

I don't like the idea of more monsters spawning around a scarecrow, for two reasons:

ONE: The use you just described is an example of griefing.

TWO: The PRIMARY use of the item is an escape tool. More monsters spawning around it would be useless to you while running away.

Aw, I liked how dark and scary it was, going out without torches was suicide, since you couldn't see anything.

Now, you can just run around without them, and see everything :?

Well it's not like people can't see in the dark in real life.

I’ve had a huge help from the new level visualizer thing, but generating and viewing levels takes a long time, and the tweaks are subtle and hard to track. (Oh, and also, with plenty of water.. boats?)

A stair step will stop a minecart and won't cause the track to ramp up onto it. Use them as the ends of your rail.

Actually due to the rarity and difficulty of mining, Obsidian should be the material used for rituals.

For instance, from a birds eye view, arranging obsidian like this:

    :obsidian: :obsidian: :obsidian:
    :obsidian: [iron] :obsidian:
    :obsidian: :obsidian: :obsidian:

and then placing a water spring where the Iron is would cause it to be a hot spring, healing the player for 1 health every 3 seconds.
