Do monotone ravines with lava make a map better? In my opinion they don't. Not all great maps need vistas. ie Blight castle is a sewer at the start yet it is an amazing map :P.
Totally unfair, all instakill traps that are not obvious are unfair, IMO the starting area is a 4/10
It feels like the start of Inferno Mines but too long, lacking in beautiful Vistas and no unique gameplay, sure unique gameplay is hard but that felt pretty monotonous to me. Honestly I like IM's start better because it has unique gameplay with the flamebringer.
The start of UT3 is about 100% better looking than IM in almost every aspect. I agree the start is not very unique mob wise but from the looks of it, its seems well balanced for loot vs mobs.
In this case you don't necessarily lose all your stuff and get a chest full of generous loot, so I don't think it's bad. Only negative thing is it's a pretty much 1-hit KO, but I like the trap overall.
Ill make sure to make Dylan sleep in the bed first when we Lp it. I just gotta cross my fingers he does't read this.
Hey guys, so I have a question about these CTM maps, what map would be best fit for a beginner? Because I'm fairly new to this genre and I feel like starting a video series on these types of maps.
Yep, I am the author of To Greener Pastures ( link below) it is a easy map which is great for beginners! I would also suggest Rugged Horizons by Skeeto if you are not afraid of the void. This map is much shorter than To Greener Pastures which is always nice as a beginner to the CTM genre to have quick victories! Spellbound caves provides another solid easier map although some areas are somewhat unbalanced in 1.6.1. Hope that helped!
Unless you come ill-prepared or are doing the Zistonian area peeking tactic or any other myriad of possibilities that will ruin the experience for you. Sorry, but there really is no justifying it -- it's just bad map design.
Ive been working with clay quite a bit lately and after a bunch of feedback from Torien, Skeeto, Dylan, Flash and Awesome this is what I came up with :). It is the starter area from TGP#2 Skyline! Thoughts on the use of clay here? Also creds to Krose for the ceiling as I have seen a similar style in a recent pic of his but im not sure if our methods are the same.
