You'll need to specify your computer's IPv4 address on your router's port forwarding page. You can find that by typing 'ipconfig' into Command Prompt.

That was the missing link!!! Thanks a ton.

Make sure you leave server-ip= blank in server.properties and you adjust your port forwarding to go to the new internal IP of the desktop.

if the server IP dosnt = something, the server will not let any external connections go on.

If the server IP does = something, in the majority of cases you will get the error you've described above... thus getting you nowhere.

Okay, then can you please tell me how to specify my port forwarding so that it has my desktop's internal IP instead of my laptop's?

Okay, so here's the issue. I began a server for me and a couple of friends on my laptop. We got it working fine, and were having a blast, but I decided I'd like to go over to their house to play there, and to just run my server 100% of the time on my desktop.

So, I did the EXACT same thing on my desktop as I did on my laptop. I made sure the port forwarding was working, I downloaded a brand new server, and I set my server ip as my default gateway, just like I had it on my laptop. However, this server didn't work, giving me an error saying something to the effect of: "This port is already in use, make sure another server is not being run on this port." I tried deleting the server IP, but no one can connect to the server other than the localhost. I'm lost and I've never seen a thread on this before, so maybe someone can enlighten me as to what is going on.

YES I deleted any trace of a server off my laptop before I set one up on my desktop, and the server exsists, as I can connect to it using my desktop, but only my desktop. Please help =(

posted a message on Cannot connect to my server.
I set up a minecraft server last night, and had it working just fine. Me and 2 of my friends were successfully connected to it, and it was working just fine.

I had the server running on my laptop, but realized that if I wanted to travel, I would need the server running on my desktop so that the server would be up while I was gone. I went to bed for the night, and after school today, I transfered the server from my laptop using a flash drive, to this desktop.

Not being sure how I update the server, I deleted the old minecraft_server.exe, and downloaded a new one. This seems to not be an issue though.

Now here's the problem: My desktop can run the server, and successfully connect to the world using 'localhost', but when I try to connect to the server using my Laptop, or my friends try to connect using the IP that we had last night, it does not work. My IP has not changed, I've checked on both computers, and it has stayed the same, seeing as the router as not changed, though since I'm very new to this, I can't say Im sure I havnt made a mistake.

When I attempt to connect to it using my laptop using the IP address, it times out. When I try using the router IP, it says "Connection refused: connect". I am clueless as to what's going on. I checked my port forwarding, and it's still there.

Please help. I'm very, very lost.

I agree with the zombie concept. It would be in a small, ruined house, possibly half blown apart explaining that the person died via Creeper explosion. And inside that house would be a skeleton or a zombie, representing the person who's house it was. Good idea
