posted a message on My Minecraft Backstory

For about as long as Minecraft has existed, people have been wanting to know a story. While it's every players job to find or make their own story, I have made one that I like to think is the closest one can come to having an official Minecraft story (WHICH THIS IS NOT). I'll post below the story that I told on the Dungeons News thread and then elaborate a little on some things that need to be clarified or stuff that just wasn't included in the story.

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Long ago, villagers were much smarter than they are now. Rather than just wander around aimlessly, they built great structures near oceans, temples in jungles and deserts, and subterranean cities. Eventually these villagers started toying around with going to different worlds. They're first experiments did not yield good results, as they sent pigs into the Nether where they mutated and became terrible creatures due to the harsh environment. They then tried going to a completely different world, one that they learned to fear and hate. They named this world The End. Soon, the dragon that lived there began infecting the people with her essence, turning the people dark and giving them unnatural powers. They became unstable beings, bent on taking apart the world that they had once known and bringing it back to their queen, the Ender Dragon. The villagers began fleeing but it was too late. Having opened portals to worlds that were no longer safe, they attempted to destroy all portals to the Nether, though not before building Strongholds there. Unfortunately, they couldn't destroy the portals to The End, only deactivate them and rob them of their power source. This was not enough to prevent the downfall of the Villager Empire though. They had unleashed a force greater than any they had known. Wildlife began to attack them, the dead rose from the ground and hunted the villagers to the brink of extinction. They abandoned their once great temples and forgot the great knowledge that they contained. Soon, the last of the great Villager Empire's people were regarded as charlatans and witches, though they alone cast spells and used potions so that the skeletons and spiders would leave them be. But the zombies were relentless. The witches themselves could not make a potion great enough to stop them and soon, even the witches had gone into hiding, far away from their aggressors, both the monsters and the other villagers. Soon, they changed from the beings they were. They became bald, their noses grew all due to the inbreeding they were now facing. Through this all, a child slept deep in the underground. Forgotten by his people, Steve awaited the day. The last of the True Villagers, found him and raised him. He taught him how to make tools and gadgetry, imbued him with the power to move matter with little more than his will. But sadly, the last True Villager was dying. He cleaned Steve's memory of his past but allowed him to retain the knowledge he had gained by the True Villager's teachings. His memory was not perfect however. Steve forgot many things he had been taught, such as the exact workings of many redstone machines but one thing had been imbued into Steve's very being. A hatred for the thing that had brought down the Villager Empire. He hated the Ender Dragon more than anything and made it his life's goal to destroy her.

And that concludes our tale. The sea had swallowed monuments, temples in deserts and jungles lie forgotten, entire cities lie hidden underground, infested by a parasite. And yet the Endermen wander. They gather and they repress the urge to slay the last of their kind. But it won't hold for long. Even looking into the eyes of Steve will send them into an uncontrollable rage, slaying him without haste.

But Steve will live and he will fight. He will slay the Ender Dragon and with it, hopefully finally cleanse his fallen brethren of the curse that has infected them. But Steve doesn't know this. He doesn't know anything.

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Ok so there it is. That pretty much makes up the bulk of my theory/story thing. So let's start clarifying things that weren't inculded.

Q: Where do Silverfish fit into this?

A: Silverfish are pretty much just Minecraft versions of the Radroaches from Fallout. Big insects that weren't a problem before the Fall of the Villager Empire but that have now taken over Strongholds. They are not adapted to live in bright light, which is why there aren't any on the surface and the vast majority of them were hunted to extinction by their natural predator, the Cave Spider.

Q: What exactly were the Desert and Jungle Temples?

A: They were what it says on the box. Temples in the desert and jungle. The only problem is, the Jungle Temples act more like safehouses than temples. There is no shrine and the place is trapped so it's more likely that they were used to hide treasure, deep in a jungle, where no one would think to look. As for the Desert Temples, they are actual temples, just with some hidden treasure thrown in. They were probably used to worship some deity and from the carvings on some types of Sandstone, it can be guessed at that they worshiped Creepers. This doesn't really seem like all that of a great deity to worship so it's always possible that these temples pre-date even the Villager Empire, perhaps all the way back to a Creeper Empire. Speaking of...

Q: Where do Creepers fit into all this exactly?

A: Creepers are one of those things that are hard to figure out. As close as I can tell, they were an experiment gone wrong or an instrument of war. However, a combination of these seems the most likely. A barely researched biological weapon? This would fit the bill for 1) Why it attacks only Steve and 2) why it doesn't seem to be based off of any actual animal. It doesn't explain how the Creeper's ugly mugs ended up on an ancient piece of sandstone so for right now the Creepers are a mystery to me. I suppose another theory is what I call the Game Theory (get it?) which is where the Creepers are a mutated type of plant but it's not really something I agree with.

Q: Why are the Jungle Temples not covered up by any soil when the Ocean Monuments are completely underwater?

A: The Jungle Temples were built on solid land so not enough time has passed yet so that they would be completely covered by dead foliage and fallen trees. The Ocean Monuments however were built out on islands they were swallowed by the ocean.

    Q: What are the Dungeons?

A: Dungeons are the equivalent of pirates burying their treasure. When Proto-Villagers built up a vast amount of wealth they hid it away, guarded not by a sentient creature such as the Iron Golems but instead by the very creatures that sought to destroy them. This kept people from going anywhere near their treasure which is why the chests always have stuff in them. We can assume that the ones with really awful loot in them probably got robbed anyway.

Q: Where do the Iron Golems come from?

A: Iron Golems are the last creation of the Proto-Villagers. They were designed as a last ditch effort to save themselves from the zombie hordes. However, the secret to make them was lost and the number is dwindling. It's up to Steve to save the last Villagers now.

Q: How much time has passed between the Fall of the Villager Empire and Steve's Arrival?

A: It's hard to put an exact timeframe on it but we know it would have to have been somewhere around 500 years. This would allow for enough time for the Ocean Monuments to be swallowed by the sea, for the Villager inbreeding to produce noticeable effects, and for spiders to take over Abandoned Mineshafts without the wood rotting into splinters. Of course, this would mean that any food Steve finds in Strongholds would be a fine powder instead of actual food but whatever.

Q: How did Steve survive for 500 years?

A: He didn't. We know that Villagers have unnaturally long lifetimes and extremely brief childhoods. Thus, we don't know how old Steve is, but we can probably guess he hasn't been around that long. Maybe the Last True Villager was his mother or father, and they knew that he was destined for something greater so they taught him all he needed to know.

Q: When you kill the Ender Dragon, why do all the Endermen not revert back to Proto-Villagers?

A: This is the sad part. Unfortunately, killing the queen does not turn back the Endermen to Proto-Villagers. Does killing the Queen of England turn the people back the Anglo-Saxons? No, they're still British, even though, at one time, they were Anglo-Saxons. Perhaps Steve will find a cure one day though...

That concludes most of the questions that I thought needed answering and should cover almost every aspect of the game. As new bits are added (and with Jeb's hint about new dungeons, it should produce some more interesting theories) I'll add more and I'll come back to this thread as often as I can and update it as much as I can, clarifying parts that are vague, updating the story, doing whatever needs doing. I also want to write a script for a video and it would be really great if someone would animate it for me. Of course, it's open to anybody who wants to do it, just tell me about. So that pretty much winds it up. If you want to add anything or have any questions then just comment and I'll reply as quickly as I can. Thanks for reading!

I think it would be better if you replaced the top block of the crafting recipe with a mob head then it would give you a specific statue of that mob. Otherwise, it would just come out and be random every time you placed it. Would still make sense for most everything but would make actually choosing the statue a little bit easier.

Isn't the power of a Fire Aspect sword caused by a magical property of a sword, rather than by a physical one (because some fiery stone was attached to it or something)?
It would also make the Enchantment table method kind of obsolete.

Actually, the enchanting method would work better as you could add more than one enchantment. Think of it as an enchanted book.

Ok, I've got an idea. It seems a little redundant and unoriginal but I still think that it's something to consider. Perhaps when adding ardent dust to a sword in an anvil it would give the sword Fire Aspect. A normal piece of dust for Fire Aspect 1 and a piece of ardent quartz to get Fire Aspect 2? I don't know, it seems like it would make sense but I'm not entirely sure how I feel about it.

Wonderful idea, especially for a thread about new ores. You have my full support!

They are more of a modern thing than Muskets. Crossbows are still used today, whereas Muskets haven't been used in almost 150 years. This seems pretty true to me, I don't get how this is "falling in on itself".

Sorry what I said sounded kind of rude. Anyway, what I meant it that bows are used more commonly than crossbows today. Crossbows are used more than muskets. You sounded like you wanted muskets because they weren't used anymore and bows are both the oldest and most-used so that's where it faltered.

No, I meant that I understand exactly how long they've been around, but that crossbows are still used in a widespread way today. That makes them a more modern thing than Muskets, which haven't been used in like 150 years. Therefore, in my opinion, it makes more sense to include Muskets than Crossbows.

But I can see your side of things, and I wouldn't mind if crossbows were added too, I was only voicing my own opinion.

Your argument kind of fell in on itself when you said that crossbows are a more modern thing that muskets. Bows are used more than crossbows today and they exist in Minecraft.

I don't know why it's blue text I just it was cool . Also I am going to type all the things tomorro so just wait until tomorrow

Hey buddy. It's way past tomorrow and you still haven't updated anything. That's a problem. You also included little to no information about the mod or what it does, other than the fact that it's magic you go to this, "Eclipse" dimension and there's dust in the mod. Hurrah. And if you are going to take the time to post a thread about your mod you need to have time to sit down and explain what it does. You're lacking basic posting skills here. And yes, we know Seikikai's grammar is bad, she didn't need you to tell her that. At this point you're just kind of being rude because she doesn't like your mod.

how about we just don't use gold tools?

Well, I uh... I guess that's an option but it's kind of in the game for a reason. You know. There just kind of... underpowered so I thought it would be a good idea to... you know. Make them useful so we would use them.

Well, I like the idea but it just doesn't really click with me for some reason. It seems reasonable but it's just one of those things where you know you should like it but you just don't.

By the way, if you want to know how I would improve gold tools then look in my signature. It's the only blue thing. Click it. Please. I'm going to promote this thing to no end.

Let me clear something up. I HATE the idea of guns in Minecraft. I think they are completely out of place and are just generally bad ideas. However, the way you've proposed them here makes sense. I don't support but this is still an excellent suggestion. I do really want more ranged weapons but I don't think guns are the way to go. Anyway, your idea is the best musket suggestion I've seen. Commendations to you sir.

posted a message on Songs you Listen to While Gaming
    Depends on the game really,
FPS: hardcore, dubstep, metal (anything thats loud)
Minecraft: atmospheric (concentrating on the build..)
Rpg: i tend to search the hobbit soundtrack for this (far over the misty mountains cold..)
    Dayz: Classic rock

Oh yeah, I also tend to listen to rock when I play FPS games. I usually don't listen to music unless I'm doing something like traveling in Skyrim, going through match after match of the Iron Banner in Destiny (I played 3 hours of that thing daily and still only go to a level 2) or something that doesn't really require me to listen. I like to listen to rap because the lyrics give me something to focus on other than just the game.

Dead, it's a month dead. A thread that is more than a month dead can be remade. It's right in the discussion rules. If it was like that, then we'd be having threads locked all over. Trust me, back in Minecraft Forum 2013, atleast 5 threads were locked, per couple of hours. So, that's kinda why they made that rule....

Ok, wait, wait, wait, wait. So if a better thought out, more descriptive, and just overall better suggestion is out there and we posted a link to that then this one still can't be locked down? I'm not quite sure how I feel about that. Although, I do guess that eventually the threads would have out-dated information so it kind of goes both ways. Hmm. Either way, the thread hasn't been locked so you were right. I still don't support though. It kind of looks like this thread was thrown together just so this guy could have something under the suggestions area.

    1. Dead thread, can't use.
    2. Dead thread, can't use.
    3. Dead thread, can't use.

So basically, a person who tries to enforce rules, gets debunked, because he himself didn't read the rules. Ironic Paradoxes.
But I do admit, it is very vague. Vaguer than my life.

I'm not quite sure what you mean by "Dead thread, can't use." Yes you can still use it. If every suggestion was considered "Dead" then things such as the redundant posts would continue on. And I wasn't trying to enforce the rules, I was trying to show him that his ideas weren't original. Which they aren't. And I did read the rules and have followed them all (almost) to the letter. So basically, a person tries to call me out, fails, then utters nonsense.

I love it when people aren't critical of other people's first project and instead of saying, "Oh my God this game is terrible and it's a waste of time and go jump off of bridge because you wasted your time on this game!" See, us gamers aren't all homicidal maniacs with repressed anger that we express through video games.

    Oh wait...http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hatred_(video_game)
