Adventure Map Section 3: Magic Forest and Ruins.

Challenge: Survive the forest and find a way into the temple.

Features: Giant trees, giant mushrooms, temple ruins, as little sunlight as possible, lots of hostile mobs and a puzzle door.

HOWEVER...I have to finish Yggdrasil at some point and start construction on The Maw at some point as well. Should I focus on the rest of the Adventure Path and after it's finished go back to the others? Or should I follow what I've been doing which is work on all 3 at once?

december 14 is my birthday. if you read this entire thread youll see multiple references to a bet on when itll come out. i chose december 14. greg was talking about something completely different and it just looked like they were connected.

greg was making the point that just because its 3 updates in one doesnt mean itll take 3 times longer. they announced it a week or so ago and are already showing pictures. meaning theyve been working on it for a while behind the scenes.

in fact, its very possible that the reason previous updates have jumped several features and items ahead by as many as 4 versions is because they've been priming console for a big leap forward for a while.

just because theyre doing 3 updates at once doesnt mean they have to switch over 1.4 then 1.5 then 1.6. because a lot of the coding and features are already there(which probably has nothing to do with it) all they have to do is switch over 1.6 which has 1.4 and 1.5 features in it.

in past large updates, the time from announcement to pictures has been a few weeks to a month and from pictures to release about another month. let's say they've been working on it without announcing it until now. the official announcement was October 2, the first picture which MIGHT show 1.6 was posted October 22, the first picture which definitely shows 1.6 was posted October 24. following the usual pattern that puts release at late november to early december. much sooner than everyone else's unfounded, ingrateful and pessimistic claims of a spring 2015 release.

EXACTLY what? I didn't specify a date... I just said it shouldn't take 3-5 times as long as it would take to code on 1 console just because there was 5 console platforms that had to be coded for. To make the claim that it will is just because it is on 5 different platforms is erroneous at best and completely wrong at worst.

I appreciate the support, but to be more accurate, I code more for fun than I do for a living. Although I have formal education in Computer Science and even though there is some coding involved in my work, my work itself is largely technical support of various communications products (including, but not limited to, computer internet/network connectivity).

It is my dream to code for a living, and games design would be something that I would love to do... but for the moment, I have bills to pay and a steady job at the moment.

My coding is done largely on the side for the time being.

not to mention you played as the main character on Coach in the '90's

Yeah. Greg is a genius. He codes and stuff for a living so if there's someone here who knows what they're talking about it's him.

Tickets are on sale now, all I need is your neighbor' left kidney. :D ...then again...good news, it's free! But the doors aren't open yet. I have to have 3 sections per path(minimum). I've got 2 outta 3 on 2 outta 3. When the first 3 are finished, I'll open it up for DELTA testing. Why delta? Because I BETA the crap out of it when I build something. The hardest part is enderman proofing everything. I'm curious what it'll look like and how it'll behave with multiple people on it though...

So instead of spending tons of time focusing on how I'm gonna finish up Yggdrasil, I spent some time(between camping, travelling and every day life) working on High Rock Falls.

Here's what I have so far:

When it's finished the walls will be higher, there will be a forest on the end I'm facing away from and there will be an entrance to the next section which will probably be a magic forest unless people vote otherwise. Then again I could still do a magic forest there and another option somewhere else.

In the hub before High Rock Falls, I've added a villager called Ol' Swampy. I think I'll have one at every hub through this questline named the same thing.

He got that name because I originally intended to do a giant swamp at some point but may hold off on that for now.

So what do you guys think so far?

It's my birthday so I chose it form the bet. Read page one and the top of page two of this thread. It'll make sense.

It will likely take awhile due to the size of the update... but it won't take 3-5 times as long. 4J updates 1 piece of code, then compiles that code separately for 5 different consoles, the additional time will largely be due to fixing platform specific bugs that occur between the different console compilations. It isn't like they will be effectively re-writing the same code 5 times.

posted a message on Help Needed from Experienced Maze Builders/Players
So for at least one section of an adventure map I'm making I need a maze. The maze in particular I'm having to ask about is inside of a giant tree. I'm wanting two paths. One that goes down into the roots and one that goes higher into the canopy. I'm wanting it to seem semi-natural(following the shape and growth of the tree) but I don't want it to be completely linear/monotonous. I want it to be fun and cool looking with more challenges than just finding the right hallway.

The tree roots and tree canopy are both correct places to go so the problem is getting there.

So I guess the proper question to you would be: How do I make a fun tree maze that avoids monotonous labyrinth style building and linear corridors?

    I'll post pictures if needed/wanted.
