posted a message on [Forge] Father Toast's Server Mods - Lost Books, Deadly World, Mob Properties, and More!

On Mob Properties, has anyone an idea on how do I prevent mobs from spawning with armour? I've tried to "force" the mob to spawn with something like

    {"function":"equip", "id":0, "override":"true", "slot":0}

inside the array "stats", the game ignores it and still spawns the mob with armour; ditto if I put some "random" item with "count":0.

I've tried also using some actual useless item as poisonous potatoes and retexture it transparent; it works, but then zombies and skeletons won't burn. Using instead almost broken chainmail gives that characteristic "clunk!" noise I'd rather avoid.

Any idea on how to approach this?

Isn't the damage that mini-slimes do a bit absurd? I mean, half a heart seems good on paper, but the fact that they do damage on contact without causing a knockback leads to rapid loss of health, and as far as raw damage per second they seem to do far more than any other mob. Also, is it me, or do their corpses seem to cause damage during the death animation?

They might pack a punch if compared with zombies or skeletons, but they're biome-specific like jungle spiders - they're there to protect resources you want. But even then, individual small slimes aren't thaaaat dangerous... (unlike a whole blob of slimes, but then you need strategy when splitting them)

I made a frightening discovery in doing so though.
    (spoiler)

When the version with the relevant change for your spoiler went out,

I had two HC spawns because of those slimes. One from being zerg-rushed by a bunch of small slimes; another trying to hide myself above a stair, only to have them saying "hello, you're food!"; and a third one from a spider+slime combo.

About your temple: 28 gold bars? Nice! More than a stack of gearboxes, man.

Welp, my first few games were Hardcore mode, and after dying three times in that I learned not to hardcore mode. Then I played on merely Hard mode, and learned I'd better leave my pride behind. Now I'm playing on Normal mode, and I'm on the verge of trying to set up some way to have an Easy.

To that end, I've found these four seeds (by searching the net):

1067402744098825987 (Mooshroom biome bordering Jungle; regular continent. Best bet for easy, but I hate jungle spiders.)

2475069397829075708 (Survival island; long term survival may be nigh impossible. One tree.)

3509458710647062196 (Mooshroom island chain next to a survival island chain. Only two trees, separated by a swim.)

Swordself (Desert (beware Hardcore Sinkholes!) that has THREE surface dungeons in it (not safe, but chests with wheat and a bread and cocoa powder.))

I'm going to stick with random seeds for now, but thought I'd consolidate the fruits of my websearching here in case anyone wanted to play around with 'em.

Hard mode is unbalanced; FC let it for players who want an added challenge. Play on Normal. (Easy mode was removed AFAIK.)
If you're dying too much on Normal, check for how can you improve as a player.

Explain to me lakes of exposed lava then. I'm pretty sure there's more than just one square lava blocks out in the open. I've come across more than a few of them - there was even a small one not far from one of my bases before I filled it in. Also, what do you mean by "lavafalls (one square only) exactly?

The lava in those is usually one or two blocks below the ground level. The one in the blacksmith is three or so above the ground, so the blacksmith wasn't built around a lava lake...

And by "lavafalls", I mean that when we find lava above the ground level, it's usually from those lava waterfalls coming from mountains, but there's only one source block there, not two like in the blacksmith; so it wasn't built around those either.

Maybe the Testificates could once indeed move source lava... but lost the how-to. NPCs are dumb after all :P

Nice kiln, by the way. How many hibachis are you using?

I'm gonna go with the idea that they built their whole town around that block of lava.

    Quote from Mason11987»

I'd guess they use whatever they used to transport source water blocks to their farms and wells

I can dig the villagers creating their farms where they find lakes, and then wastefully pouring down dirt until it's shaped the way they want... but the lava? Nah. Lava above ground is either from lavafalls (one square only) or in lava lakes (below the ground level).

but with forge you can do amazing things, just look at the colored lights mod, that probably wouldn't exist without forge, and this mod may be intended to be played alone, but so was terrafirmiacraft, as that made the game into something vastly different than vanilla, but people added it into some packs anyway, because it's their game, and they felt like it :D

Are you talking about this Colored Lights mod? If so: Forge has no API for that (otherwise CptSpaceToaster wouldn't make his own), so, no, porting to Forge wouldn't make easier to add stuff like that. And considering Colored Lights is mainly aesthetic while FC focuses on gameplay value, it wouldn't add anything to BTW. It's a matter of cost (work) vs. benefit (gameplay value).

Then you mentioned TFC; Bioxx and Dunk don't mind if you play TFC with other mods or in singleplayer, but the mod is still balanced to be played in a specific way - with no other mods, in multiplayer. Even a minimap detracts from the gaming experience with TFC (immersion breaking, making backtracking ore deposits trivial), let alone other mods. BTW is the same in this regard... it simply wasn't designed to be played in a modpack.

Or, if you want a silly example: playing BTW with another good mod would be as silly as trying to force both Final Fantasy VI and Dwarf Fortress into the same game. The ending result wouldn't be FF6 or DF, but far inferior to both.

What ever happened to that old post about my adventures in the BTW underwater temples? They had diamond saws, steam power, and bootsies for the wolfsies feetsies.

I've heard that you can find something something there that allows you to use the 5x5 crafting grid, the one that enables obsidian tools and pipes.

Is better than wolves still on 1.5.2? or has it updated?

It is being updated and maintained for 1.5.2. Just like lots of other mods are updating for 1.7.10 instead of the last MC version.

Or, like someone already said: BTW is sitting comfortably in a throne of skulls. And that throne happens to be in 1.5.2.

posted a message on Physical Relationships v. Internet Relationships
    Quote from StalePhish»

As much as you think an internet relationship may be a relationship while you're a teenager, you'll look back on those days later on life and wonder "what was I thinking?". Take it from someone who grew up in the days of AOL Instant Messenger and online chatrooms before Facebook/Twitter/Instagram/MySpace even existed, and just don't bother. If you really care about someone and want to pursue anything more than a "pen pal" friendship, make sure you regularly see eachother in person. It's so easy to pretend to be someone that you're not when you're never communicating face to face.

    This. So much this.

Also, even when the other person isn't pretending to be someone else, it's really hard to know about someone from a distance... at most you know his/her writing style, their face, maybe even their voice when speaking in the phone/mic, but that's it - you're losing a lot of "real life information", details that you fill in your mind with whatever you want, making him/her look far more interesting than they actually are.

In other words: when the other isn't fooling you, you're still fooling yourself.

Guys, didn't you know? FlowerChild will update BTW to 1.7.10 as soon as he adds the diamond saw and obsidian tools to the mod! Of course, you'll need to restart the world, but you'll get free diamonds in the process! Just wait.

Maximo_Artorio, LordEric: "permutatio" is a pain to translate from Latin to English because there's no direct replacement. Complete change, exchange, swapping, replacement, alteration, all those are "permutatio". The idea is, that you had X being replaced with Y, or changed completely to Y. Kinda like the wand of equal trade.

I think that, besides balance, copper has permutatio because it's a metal used to exchange signals IRL.
