posted a message on Water & Sun Proof Endermen Mod
Hey everyone, this is a mod that allows Endermen to survive in water, and direct sunlight. For those of you that love an added challenge.

This mod was made at the request of Daveyx0, and Wheelchair, who posted in my Endermen Don't Pick Up Blocks Mod thread, asking for a version where they did pickup blocks, but were also able to survive in water. I added in the ability for them to survive in direct sunlight as well, for an added challenge.

This mod was originally posted in my Endermen Don't Pick Up Blocks Mod thread, but I've decided to give it it's own thread, as it doesn't really fit in with the purpose of that thread.

If you want a version where the Endermen have their block moving ability disabled, and are also able to survive in water, and direct sunlight, then check out my Endermen Don't Pick Up Blocks Mod thread.

Current Mod Version: Version 8.25 for Minecraft 1.7.10

Whenever a new version of Minecraft comes out, I will wait a week or two before updating the mod to that version.
This is so I can see if Mojang is going to do bug fix releases, as I don't want to waste time updating the mod to a version that will be quickly replaced.
    Please have patience.

    Download

Here is the download link to the mod, the Endermen no longer take damage from water or sunlight, but all their other abilities remain intact.
This version works for both clients and servers.

    Download: Mediafire

    How to Install

    1. Download the mod from the link above.

    2. Open up the zip file you just downloaded, and extract the file(s) contained in it.

    Singleplayer (Client):

    3. Go to your Minecraft directory, open the versions folder, and make a second copy of the folder for the version you are currently installing the mod on, and add " - WSPEM", or something similar to the end of the folder name (Example: "1.7.2 - WSPEM"), so you can remember which mod you have installed in this folder.

    4. Open the new folder you just made, and rename both the .jar and the .json file in the folder to the name of the folder. For example, the names would look something like this, "1.7.2 - WSPEM.jar" & "1.7.2 - WSPEM.json", if you used my suggestion for the folder name. Be sure to keep the .jar & .json file extensions at the end of the file names.

    5. Open the .json file in a text editor, like Notepad or Wordpad. You should see a line that has "id" on it, change the version number next to it, to the name you picked for the folder, and save the .json file.

    6. Open the .jar file in the folder with 7-zip or a similar program, and copy the file(s) you extracted for the mod into the .jar file, replacing the old file(s).

    7. Delete the META-INF folder from the .jar file.

    8. Run the Minecraft Launcher, click New Profile, and set the Profile Name to the name you picked for the folder. Now, go to "Use version:", and select the name you picked for the folder from the list (Example: "1.7.2 - WSPEM"). Once you have that set, save the profile.

    9. Finally, under "Profile Selection", select the profile you just made, and log in and run the game.

    Multiplayer (Server):

    3. Go to your Minecraft server directory, and open Minecraft_server.jar in 7-zip or a similar program.
This mod will NOT work with the Minecraft_server.exe, you MUST use the Minecraft_server.jar.

    4. Copy the file(s) you just extracted into the Minecraft_server.jar, replacing the old file(s).
Do NOT delete the META-INF folder from your Minecraft_server.jar.

Sorry for being absent from this thread, things have been kind of crazy for me in real life, and that takes priority for me.
But, I'm back now, and I started work on a 1.7.10 version, as well as a 1.8 version.

Unfortunately, I've encountered some difficulties with the 1.8 version, Mojang changed a lot of the code in the Enderman file for 1.8, and with all the obfuscation, I'm having a hard time figuring out where the block moving code is located.
I'm going to look more in depth on it tomorrow probably, hopefully I can figure it out. But I should warn you guys, on the chance that I can't figure it out, I might have to wait for MCP to update, in order to have a better understanding of the changes to the code.

I've read your posts about the links no longer working, it seems that Minecraft Forums has done some layout and BB code changes while I was gone, and it screwed up my opening post, it wouldn't even come up right in the editor, half of the post was deleted when I tried to edit it.
Luckily, I keep a back up of the OP stored on my computer, so I pasted that into the editor, and made the necessary BB code changes to it, so that the editor stopped trying to delete parts of it.
But, it turns out that the forum for some reason now has a problem with longer urls, and makes them just link back to the page you were on, so I went through and shortened the urls for every link in the post, and that finally got it working right.

I'm not sure why the server version isn't working for some of you, I ran tests of it again, and it worked perfectly for me. But, I am installing it to a vanilla server, and not Forge, I don't have any experience with Forge, so I can't help with that. I may try playing around with Forge and Forge mods in the not too distant future though, so I'll let you know if I encounter any problems with it then.

Until then though, don't ask me for any help getting the mod to work with Forge.

Also, thanks LordCorellon, for providing everyone with something for 1.7.10 while I was gone, I appreciate it.

Anyway, I did get the official 1.7.10 version finished, and it's available for you guys to download now.

I built an "Ender House" around a couple of Endermen in The End, the house is made out of a bunch of materials the Endermen can normally pick up.

As you'll see in the screenshots, they are completely unable to pick up anything.

posted a message on Minecraft Beta Customized Terrain Generator Preset "Neo-Beta" (Glacier seed comparison pictures inside.)
    Quote from kwerti
edit: Also, have you tried editing the upper/lower scales instead?
Yeah, before I had looked at the Beta code, I first tried messing with the upper/lower scales, as well as the coordinate/height scales, and while it still looked similar to Beta near spawn, it had even more/bigger mountains at that point than in the current preset, and had the same problems with some areas looking completely different than Beta.

I didn't feel that I had it close enough to Beta at that point, that's why I ended up looking directly at the Beta code to get the proper values for everything that I could.
The upper/lower scales were definitely set to 512.000 in Beta.
Almost everything had the same values in Beta, the main difference was in the part of the code that ended up becoming biomeDepthOffset and biomeScaleOffset in the later versions of the game. That part of the code controlled the height in Beta.

Actually, if you load up Glacier in the Amplified world type, you'll see that a lot of the terrain is very similar to, although much bigger, than this preset. So, the differences from Beta, don't just affect this preset, but the generator as a whole. Something changed, and the random number generator seems to give out somewhat different numbers now.

The Beta terrain generator has basically been buried underneath the current generator this whole time, it's just that it was flattened with biomeDepthOffset and biomeScaleOffset being set to 0.0, and then a lot of the biomes used biomeDepthWeight and biomeScaleWeight to alter it to the point that it was unrecognizable.

This preset reverses that process, and unburies the Beta terrain generator.

So, even if the seeds don't come out 100% exact to how they were in Beta, it's still got the full height variation across all biomes that Beta had, the seeds look similar in places, and overall it's still the kind of terrain that generated in Beta, so that makes it playable for me.

This is a preset that is close to the Beta terrain generator, it has full height variation across all biomes, and many of the landmarks look similar to the Beta landmarks in the seeds I've tested.

    Super-Beta Preset

This preset has much higher mountains than the Neo-Beta preset. It gets a bit laggy, so you might want to run minecraft with more ram.

The deepest sea I've seen with this preset reached a depth of Y: 59, but seas that deep are rare.

Standing at the top of a "Deep Ocean" mountain range, at Y: 241, near max height.
The tallest mountain I've seen with this preset reached a height of 251.

Even in Super-Beta, there are nice flat areas for you to build on, if you look hard enough.

Very high mountain top plateau at around Y: 220.

A "Mushroom Island", seems more like a mushroom mountain if you ask me.

posted a message on Beta 1.9 with new launcher
Mojang hosts the Beta 1.9 jars on their servers, but for some reason, hasn't put them in the launcher.

I think the Minecraft Wiki has the links to the part of minecraft.net where they keep the old development versions, you could try setting up the launcher to run it manually, I'm not sure if that would work or not, I haven't tried myself.

posted a message on Minecraft Beta Customized Terrain Generator Preset "Neo-Beta" (Glacier seed comparison pictures inside.)
Because of the amount of people who like the Minecraft Beta terrain generator, I felt this deserved it's own thread, so that people could see that this is indeed possible.

I've made a preset that is close to the Beta generator, it has full height variation across all biomes, and many of the landmarks look similar to the Beta landmarks in the seeds I've tested.

There are some differences, but that could have something to do with the addition of all the new stuff since Beta, making the random generator give out somewhat different numbers than it used to.

I call my new preset the Neo-Beta preset.

I've also made a second preset that I call the Super-Beta preset, which is the Neo-Beta preset, with much higher mountains that can extend to near the build height, a higher sea level, and 50% more underground space than Neo-Beta.
It can get kind of laggy, I recommend increasing the amount of ram that you run Minecraft with for the best results.

Here are the presets for you to use:

    Neo-Beta Preset

I've compared the code in ChunkProviderGenerate.java from Beta 1.7.3 to the code in azd.class from 14w18b.

The following terrain settings had the exact same values in both Beta 1.7.3 and 14w18b:
    coordinateScale: 684.412
    heightScale: 684.412
    lowerLimitScale: 512.000
    upperLimitScale: 512.000
    depthNoiseScaleX: 200.000
    depthNoiseScaleZ: 200.000
    depthNoiseScaleExponent: 0.5
    mainNoiseScaleX: 80.0
    mainNoiseScaleY: 160.0
    mainNoiseScaleZ: 80.0
    baseSize: 8.5
    stretchY: 12.0

seaLevel was 64 in Beta 1.7.3 instead of 63.

biomeDepthWeight, and biomeScaleWeight both need to be set to 0.0, in order to get full height variation across all biomes back.

The two settings I couldn't find the value for in Beta 1.7.3 were biomeDepthOffset, and biomeScaleOffset.
I checked the code for ChunkProviderGenerate.java in Minecraft 1.6, and those two settings affect minHeight and maxHeight.
If you've already set biomeDepthWeight and biomeScaleWeight to 0.0, then they seem to affect the height universally across all biomes.
The Beta 1.7.3 code seemed to use a lot of math to determine the minimum and maximum height, and I couldn't quite figure out what numbers I should input there.

So, I've played around with both biomeDepthOffset and biomeScaleOffset, until I got things looking as close to Beta as I could.
If you want to play around with it some more, biomeDepthOffset is minHeight, and biomeScaleOffset is maxHeight.

I've set biomeSize to 2, as I felt that setting was closest to Beta's small biomes.

Here are some comparison screenshots on the same seed, between Beta 1.7.3, and 14w18b with the Neo-Beta preset.

posted a message on Did the Terrain Become BORING? (UPDATE 6/5/13 - 1.7 is a biome update?)
I've been working for the last few days on trying to make a preset as close to the Beta terrain generator as possible.
And, I've finally come up with one that seems close, which I've named the "Neo-Beta" preset, it has full height variation across all biomes, and many of the landmarks look similar to the Beta landmarks in the seeds I've tested.

posted a message on Endermen Don't Pick Up Blocks Mod
    Quote from Badinfos

Good call, the moment I saw Dinnerbone's tweet, I laughed, thinking of you specifically and what your predictions were.
We will wait a week, no problem, it's great to see that you still keep updating the mod after all these years(?) you have worked on it :)
Yeah, it's been 2 and a half years now, the time sure does fly, I made the first version of the mod shortly after the Adventure Update.

The second I loaded up the first Beta 1.8 Prerelease, and saw what the Endermen were capable of, I was horrified.
I couldn't believe that Notch allowed something like that to exist in the game, they weren't the scary monsters that you never wanted to run into, like he described in his blog posts. Instead, Notch officially added griefers to game, actual NPC greifers. To this day, I still think that was one of the worst ideas he ever thought up, I have no idea what he was thinking.

I purposely kept my world on Beta 1.7.3 until I found a way to mod out that horrible block moving ability of theirs.
So, I was actually a bit behind everyone else in trying out all the new features of that update.

I still think this is an important mod for the game, which is why I try to keep it as up to date as I can, I never play a world without it. :)
And, I'm really glad to see that you guys still find it useful.

Vanilla desperately needs an actual in-game toggle for the Endermen block moving ability, I'm actually really surprised that in all this time since I first started the mod, they've never even considered adding a toggle for just the block moving ability.
Not only do the Endermen ruin the landscape over time, but they can also ruin custom maps that make use of traps involving sand/gravel or even TNT.

Well, it looks like they came out with a 1.7.9 after all, this name changing feature had a massive amount of bugs with it.
And, while that can be expected when changing something this fundamental to the core of the game, they definitely should have ran a lot more than just two 1.7.6 Prereleases, they should have asked for more people to come in and help them test the prereleases, so they could have worked out the bugs while they were still in the prerelease phase, and not in the official release. It makes them look very unprofessional to have to spend at least 4 official releases working out the bugs for one feature.

I'm fully expecting them to go to at least 1.7.10 or 1.7.11 at this point, but I will definitely be updating to the final 1.7.X version, just as soon as I'm fully convinced that they are actually done with it for good.
