Yeah, its always better to have a lot of customization, don't dumb it down just for users that don't want to read or watch tutorials.

You have good points there, but I really doubt that the original Minecraft developers (before Microsoft purchase), are involved in Minecraft Windows 10, at least not in a high degree, Why do I say this? Well, its simple, both have different code languages (I am not assuming that the original developers(Java) can't code in C++). I think that the team that created Minecraft PE is more involved in that version of the game, since it's pretty much a port as of now.
Now, here is what makes sense for me. If there has been a slowdown, is MAYBE (please note "maybe") because Microsoft will be interested in pairing up (not completely of course) all the versions of Minecraft, right now, Minecraft Windows 10 is not attractive, yes is fast and it can load chunks like flash, but the lack of content and mod support are the issue here. Minecraft Windows 10 is multi platform so I have no idea how will they solve those issues without messing with Xbox and Mobile versions of Minecraft.
I wish minecraft would be coded in C++ from the beginning, but the Java version its so massive now (with mods) that I wouldn't worry about this version dying or being left behind in the next years.
I agree with you, we need more updates directly from Mojang about Bukkit, API and other aspects, but now they have bosses, Microsoft executives: so I don't think that depends in the developers anymore.
I have been able to tolerate the long time between the last two versions by playing other games, reading, anime, etc. That's the only advice I can give you.
