posted a message on Should I change my internet alias? (A Fresh Start)
Around 2006 was the time I began to really need a "username" or alias to go by around the internet. A person I knew would always call me joe cool (like from Charlie Brown, when snoopy would always wear sunglasses) because I wore shades too often during that time. I shortened it to Jcool and it also helps that my name starts with a J (and it's not joe) so I thought Jcool would be cool and original. Since then I have had to use variants of Jcool, because apparently it's not as original as I would have thought. (But almost 7 years ago I wouldn't have expected there to be that many websites and games where somebody could register Jcool as their username). Variants include JcoolVideoz (my almost deceased youtube channel), and JcoolForever (What I use for most games nowdays, including my Minecraft username).

The lack of originality is beginning to bug me. I feel like I was the first person to come up with the name and use it, but I know because it's so simple that I couldn't have been. This also explains why I could never just register my usernames as Jcool. My Youtube channel (which I deeply love) is also dead because I've had to cancel multiple series because the people involved abandoned it, and no one really watches my videos anyways. I've done some youtube searches and at least 3 other people go by Jcool as well.

I almost want to have start fresh. I would like to be a successful YouTuber but I feel like it's not possible if I go by a name that other people go by also. The decision to change my alias is more drastic than what it would be for other people that make a different username for practically everything, because I've always gone by Jcool, and nothing else.

The issue with changing my alias is all of the accounts I already own. Should I change my alias as a fresh start for everything? (mainly, my youtube channel) If so, do you think it would be necessary for me to make new accounts for the games I play and plan to record (including buying a new minecraft account with the new alias as the name)?

I understand that this is my decision to make so you don't need to tell me that. But I would like to see people's thoughts or maybe if somebody else has done something similar. Advice would be appreciated. Thank you.

posted a message on Minecraft: Old Days - New Days
Even on easy mode it's difficult to get a hold of food in the first few days without killing an animal (which I don't like doing, because usually they don't respawn) so I believe the surplus iron and coal makes up for my starvation. But I would like to see it easier to get food and harder to get ores.

posted a message on Could I be getting more FPS?
    Quote from The_Doctor_123

You are just like my friend that has 500 FPS and then says that his game is lagging in Tekkit when it's below 200.

Hear me and everyone else out: 60 FPS IS ALL THAT YOU WILL SEE, HIGHER NUMBERS MEAN NOTHING!!!

I completely understand everyone, but higher numbers would also mean that I most likely wouldn't get the frequent lag spike. I'm sure your friend with 500 FPS wouldn't get lag while recording either. "I know that 100-150 fps is enough" like I said in my first post. Playing at only 60 fps is not enough because it will very frequently drop below that and then there IS lag. I realize 60 is all I will ever see but I need more than that in order for me to not notice lag when there is lag spikes and fps drops. 100-150 fps is enough for me to play the game without experiencing lag, but still not enough while recording. Hopefully I clarified things enough this time.

I have to wonder why people seem to think they should get 400+ FPS on Minecraft or something.

You'd imagine for $1500 you would. And I don't exactly remain at 100-200 fps while using fraps. And then it lags when making videos. So yes, I do expect that I should have the 400 FPS that you mention.

Performance in Minecraft is not at all a good dictation of performance as a whole. Your PC should do quite well in other games. I have a crap 3-year-old Dell laptop with an Intel Core 2 Duo T6600 and a Mobility Radeon HD 4330. Yet I consistently get 40-70 FPS in Minecraft with Fast graphics and Normal render distance.

You're right. In a few other games I manage 300+ which is good enough.

There is no point in getting more than 60.

There is nothing we can tell you because there are too many variables, for all we know that is the max you will ever get.

In V-Sync my FPS fluctuates and very frequently drops below 60 and then there's still lag. I realize that 60 is "all you need", but I would like to know if I should be getting more for my setup.

I average from 100-150 fps most of the time on Minecraft. I upgraded my graphics card a couple of months ago, and unfortunately don't see much of a change. I know that 100-150 fps is enough, but I feel like I should be getting more. I do have Optifine installed, but it's not a horribly great boost.

    Specs:

    Dell XPS 8300

    Intel Core i7-2600 @ 3.4 GHz

    12gb RAM

    Radeon 7850 graphics card.

I can't remember what website it was on, but before I upgraded my graphics card I compared this radeon to the one that came with my PC, and it was something like 300% better. However I got pretty much the same FPS on Minecraft with the last card. I've heard before that it's more about the CPU for minecraft, but isn't 3.4 plenty fast to get more FPS than I'm getting? Is it just because it's Minecraft? Or should I be getting more FPS? Or is this what's expected? An explanation with your answer would be great. Thanks

I don't know what he is describing, its a little difficult to work some things out.
But he did mention it happens with video in games as well.
I am unsure if he means playing youtube through a game or just cinematics.
(you can play youtube through games now?)

If its just youtube, It is most likely just a software problem.

Sorry my description is poor. For example:

    Quote from fm87

You're both wrong. It's a mix of all 3, hardware, software, and drivers.

Some Nvidia cards have the same problem with Flash and youtube.

But it's not all cards. My girlfriend has the exact same card as me, and is only 5 numbers away on the serial number, her card has this issue mine does not. This has been reported on all GPU brands, Intel, AMD and Nvidia. The cause and a fix is still unknown.

The only temp solution for now is to roll back/update drivers to random versions until it no longer happens, or it happens less frequently.

Thank you. Hopefully a fix soon.

posted a message on Please help fix Graphics Card Issue
I posted once a couple months ago about this, but I really never got a solution and I'm hoping someone can help me find the problem. If no one can, it's fine as I have a lifetime warranty on this gpu.

Back in july of this year I bought this card for my dell xps (8500 model I believe)

    http://www.bestbuy.com/site/VisionTek - AMD Radeon HD 7850 2GB GDDR5 PCI Express 3.0 Graphics Card/5390075.p?id=1218637214888&skuId=5390075&st=radeon 7850&cp=1&lp=1

Installed it, and everything seems to work fine.

Play a youtube video, this happens:

From this point I have to manually shut down the computer. I'm using a DVI Dual Link TMDS Cable to connect my graphics card to my monitor.

This all is unfortunately all the information I can really give because I have not found anyone with the same problem yet and it doesn't actually happen when I perform specific tasks anymore. For example all youtube videos work now. I know it doesn't have to do with flash OR my drivers because I've installed multiple versions of both multiple times and the same thing happens. When I mean it's not specific anymore is that sometimes if I try to play a youtube video through another program like one of the games I play which features a video on the window (in the exe), it'll give me that screen. Once again this is hard to decide what the problem is because playing youtube videos from youtube.com also used to do this but it magically fixed itself and no longer happens.

    Anyone have any ideas?

posted a message on Hissing/Screeching Noise on Max Performance
Sorry to rebring this topic up, but I do believe the problem is because the graphics card is simply pumping too much FPS. I believe this is the problem because it does happen in other graphics intensive games I play. I solve it by enabling v-sync which limits me to 60 fps. However I dislike this because then my FPS does every so often drop below 60 and the lag is noticeable. With this new information does anyone know away to fix it but maybe make v-sync give me slightly higher fps? Sort of like custom video performance settings.

posted a message on Hissing/Screeching Noise on Max Performance
Whenever I play Minecraft on max performance settings a vague screeching noise that is very annoying plays through my headphones. Changing it down to balanced or power saver gets rid of it, but then of course I have garbage performance. This also happens on another game I play that I play on max performance on called League of Legends. Does anyone have any idea why this is happening?

posted a message on Sound Proof Block
I came up with this idea just now, because I'm playing on my friends server and I have a massive cow farm in my base. I think that sums it up pretty well already. Also with the new sounds added in 1.4 that make cows sound like they're trying to stampede out of my fenced off breeding grounds I think a block that blocks out sound would be great. You could also use it to hide your base if you have animals or like to mess around with music discs or note blocks a lot.

Possibly a second use for the sponge if they decide to add it? Maybe a separate block? What do you guys think?

posted a message on Server lag: Need help determining the problem
    Hello Minecrafters,

I've been starting to play on my friend's self-hosted server recently. It's just me him and his little brother most of the time. For you United States people he lives in Arizona and I'm in California. We both have computers easily capable of self hosting (at least we think) (we get about 100-200 fps most of the time) and good internet connections and we have self hosted before however I haven't played on his server before.

Him and his little brother don't complain of any lag but I seem to experience some. It's not fps issues at all, but more or less response time. When I first login to the server breaking blocks will not yield any drops until about 30 seconds later and everything will "catch up" to what I've been doing since I logged in. Then throughout my time on the server sometimes there will be delays in sound, and it's impossible for me to fight any mobs because of the response time. Literally every creeper I try to fight ends up exploding and I don't get to find that out until about 3-8 seconds after it happens.

Is the issue here really just distance or internet connection? When I host a server they don't usually lag, so is there anything I can have them do with their server to at least improve my response time? He is running the latest 1.4 pre-release and pre-release server however I think this bit of info is irrelevant because the lag-response issues I'm having occurs even if he's using 1.3 or bukkit.

    Any suggestions would be great!

Two days if you pay extra ^.^ I just got a new gpu a month back and it definitely took longer than two days for amazon to get it here
