None of the releases use the new tree animation yet because it's not finished - which version are you having a problem with? Or did you build it from source yourself?

Hi, thank you for asking - I'd rather you not distribute the file anywhere other than Curse.

I was thinking, maybe we could get some kind of trail rations. There are grains you can bring that don't spoil. But salted and smoked meats and dried fruits/veggies could be added. They could be made to be very time consuming to get so they don't just become the go to foods.

Food preservation is yet another on our long list of planned additions! Probably something like smoking or drying, and possibly also pickling, salting, and/or other methods.

Just wanted to say, loved your Tree Update preview, looking forward to the next batch of content! And thanks as always for your hard work!

Thanks, glad you like the look of it! It's going to be a really big job but it's fun to get our teeth into making all the new content.

I am enjoying the challenge of this mod. Finally found iron after 36 days. lol

I do have to ask though, what is the purple liquid I find spawning around the world?

Glad you're enjoying it! That liquid is tar. At the moment it doesn't actually do anything... one day it will probably be used to make torches and/or other things. We added it early on because we just wanted to experiment with fluids, but never got round to making it useful yet. :D

May I ask how to get Poles? There's no information I could find about how to get them.

Poles currently come from breaking log blocks (trees). We are working on a major overhaul to how trees work, so the current situation is a bit temporary. With the tree update, everything should become more balanced and understandable (but also more interesting).

I've been playing this mod for a few days now, and it definitely has a slower progression! I set the spawn radius to a few thousand blocks, so each time I died because I couldn't figure out how to craft something, it would leave a lone campfire or a half finished wall for me to find later. After checking the wiki on a few things I couldn't find though, I was wondering a few things.

    • Is there any way to turn thick logs and logs into poles, like a chopping block? So far, I've only made pole houses, but they seem pretty expensive.
    • I could have just missed something, but it seems like I can only actually build a roof over my head when I have a woodworking station, which means I've got copper before I've got a home. Wouldn't it be better to remove copper from the woodworking recipe or something, since better woodworking requires timber, which requires the sawpit anyway?
    • I wasn't sure how drying off worked. If I fall in a lake, it seems like I then need to stay next to a fire all day, else I'm not going anywhere. Does fur clothes take longer to dry or something, and if so, would it be better to throw them in a drying rack so it doesn't take as long?

    • As I mentioned above, the poles/logs/etc situation is a bit temporary. :) With the tree update everything should start making more sense and be less irritatingly random.
    • Woodworking definitely does need metal - the kind of tools that the woodworking bench consists of are too complex to be made of flint etc. But we are still considering other kinds of shelter so it's possible we'll add some other kind of roof with a different recipe.
    • Clothing doesn't affect the speed you dry - if you get wet, you stay wet for 3 minutes (3600 ticks). Being wet has two effects:
      1. It lowers your temperature by 1 unit
      2. It cancels out the warming effects of any clothing you are wearing

Would it be possible to allow doubled stone walls and vaults to provide at least partial protection to structures affected by weather? Seems strange that a building made of such material offers as much protection as tree leaves.

Weather shelter is entirely defined by the blocks above the structure in question - so walls beside it make no difference. But it's a good point about vaults, they probably should provide some shelter. I'll take that up with co-designer!

I have been enjoying this mod. It is certainly makes me think more about everything. I have noticed that I can get normal dirt/grass/sand/gravel block by having something like a torch underneath.

Do you mean if a block falls and lands on a torch, it drops as the regular block? (That's a bug so I'll need to make a note of it!)

The only issue I have been having is that I cannot seem to find any iron. Is it restricted to certain biomes?

It's not biome-restricted, but it only occurs at altitudes around 15-50, and it's overall a bit rarer than in vanilla.

That's true, but so is going to the toilet! At the moment we don't intend to add thirst because we just don't think it'll be very interesting in gameplay terms.

Thanks for the feedback, the wiki is still a constant work in progress. It's good to hear from people what kind of information is more needed (we lose track after being steeped in development for so long!). I certainly wouldn't complain if someone decided to make a video :P

    After Action Report, Day 5

    • Since metal is comfortable and roofs aren't working well, I've continued exploring for more stuff.
    • Still no luck with fruit trees, much to my dismay.
    • Brought provisions this time, definitely helped with my range. Eggs, tomatoes and bread served me in good stead for a long bout of sprinting.
    • I'm probably going to have to start properly lumberjacking - putting ladders on the sides of trees so I can clear leaves in an orderly manner. My last big oak was a project.
    • Sheep pit is about half done, but I'm going to have some dirt left over. I've been throwing the blocks I dig out onto the drying rack to make the mud walls. Ah well, not like it's scarce.
    • Made a llama friend while I was out and about. Sadly, nothing to do with it - no saddles or chests makes them pretty useless for the nonce.
    • I found a bunny! It fled, but I didn't have any carrots or grain handy, so I didn't get to test anything out. Didn't have the heart (or weapon) to murder it, so no testing there either.

I'm probably going to take a break for a bit - between rubble and frames misbehaving and no animal interactions beyond breeding, I don't think there's much left for me to do for now. I'll keep tabs on the thread and look forward to jumping back in later!

Thanks for the update! Those fixes are in the works, along with some other tweaks to new-player-friendliness and usability - it turned into a bigger job than I expected so I'm going to release it all together once it's done.

Along with wind mills, water wheels are a good idea too. but only works in rivers? Would it be too much to have this mod have realistic, flowing rivers? That would take a lot of work, but because this is a standalone mod, I think the effort would be worthwhile for this mod. Thatched roofing?

We have talked about doing realistic flowing water. It would be.. a ridiculously major job. We'd have to overhaul world generation pretty much from scratch, and totally change the way fluids work, and probably other things too. It's not out of the question, because we do think it would be awesome. But we've put the idea on long-term hold, probably at least until we've done all of our other planned features (which could be a looong time). Thatched roofs are already a definite planned feature!

Hello! The mod is very good! I want to reprint this mod on a Chinese forum called MCBBS (mcbbs.net) to let more people enjoy the mod.I really hope you can agree. Thanks.

Thanks, I'm glad you like it! As long as you properly credit us with links back to the source, feel free to share the mod anywhere.

    Heya!
call me Sly, Love the mod. It's been so long since I've seen a Hardcore Survival and this is well put! I used to fiddle around with textures and texture creation and really prefer the rustic medieval look. if you don't mind me asking if you have an extra spot in your texturing team? haha that aside this remains to be a really great mod I'll be keeping my eyes on :)

Hi! We're not looking for any more help at the moment, but thanks for asking. I'm glad you like the mod. :)

Hmmm, that may have been the problem. I'll do a bit of creative testing on rubble, to see what works out.

Though, with how handsome pavers are, I wish I could get a recipe to make a block out of them to build on instead...

You can place another paver on top to turn it into a double block, like a vanilla slab. But you still can't build anything heavy on top of them. :D

Figured I'd start posting here instead of Curse, since Curse doesn't like long posts and MCF are chill. I just moved everything I hadn't seen a response to. Sorry for the spam, Jazzable!

No worries, I think it's probably better here. :) Thanks for the continued updates!
    • Here is an imgur album with screenshots and a bit of explanation on building roofs. They function pretty much identically to vanilla stairs in the way they are shaped and constructed.
    • Rubble shouldn't vanish when broken! If that happens it's a bug, pls report :D Also, rubble is a shovel-type block, so that's the quickest way to break and move it around, if you haven't found out yet. (Something else for the wiki.. you are really helping to point out our missing spots)
    • Yes, bread is supposed to be spoil-less! Think hardtack.
    • Interesting spot about rice and grass. I don't see any particular problem with that, but I'll keep an eye out in case it becomes a too-useful workaround.

And thanks for all the positive feedback. It's really nice to hear about the things you find well-balanced (as well as the things that aren't).
