Who else plays and makes adventure maps and is tired of putting signs as dialogue for the villagers for quests and what not.
My idea is there should editable dialogue added in 1.4. While the books helped a lot you still cant make a good adventure map story without something like this. My idea is that when right clicking a villager it will bring you to a gui menu where you either click an emerald icon to see their trade or click a dialogue icon to see their text, If they dont have dialogue available then right clicking will bring you straight to their trade. The only way to add dialogue is to activate creative mode and right click a villager and you will see the same menu I described, except when clicking on the dialogue icon it will give and empty text section which you can type in and give them their dialogue. Also you can make it so events trigger a change in dialogue, such as activating a command block (Just added in snapshot 12w32a) or Killing a certain amount of enemies or even talking to another villager or multiple events. Something like this would probably be fairly easy to code in and would make adventure maps more fun to play and edit, By taking out the signs people are forced to use to add dialogue and letting you talk to the villagers which are currently mindless brown squidwards who give you rip off deals. Let me know what you think and how to improve idea in comments below.
P.S. The beacon block is kinda stupid and useless unless used as decoration but since its a work in progress i'll trust it will turned into something good.

Why then are Log blocks so static? The cut portions of log blocks always face in a vertical position.
I suggest that log blocks should be placed in such a way where the cut portion of a log always faces you at the instance of placing.
The benefits of this are mostly in decoration but it opens up a lot of possibilities:
Aesthetic Examples
-horizontal log beams
-Log piles (lumber camp) and other such designs.
-Log cabins (anyone?)
-Anything else you can think of?
More aesthetic examples: Submitted by ChadGarion25- Log bridges across chasms and rivers
- Battering rams
- Floating docks
- Coco bean farms
- Nurse logs (not natural, man made, but aesthetically pleasing)
- Dirt retention walls
- Aesthetic saw mill (like from skyrim)
- Frogger game (with the logs floating in the water as you jump from log to log)
- Log fort drawbridge
- Make a sideways forest like in (watch at your own peril, I cry for some reason)
- Make log rides like the ones at Disney Land
-Naturally generated fallen trees
-Cannons
-Rafts/boats
-Targets
Visual concepts: (Compliments of ChadGarion25)
I'm on a boat
My take on a log cabin, complete with brick fire place, lumber storage, and birch garden.
New Horizontal log creation, Desert Caravan Stormwatch Tower.
Reinforced with heavy logs, this sand structure stands high on the flat desert horizon, watching for incoming sandstorms and bandit raids to aid local trade caravans in their journey.
More Creations. A jungle look-out platform for Tarzan enthusiasts:
When height = Survival in the jungle, you can't go wrong with lashing together logs to make yourself a jungle platform up in the trees.
My attempt to make birch logs look good by making a rounded Tipi structure. It failed on the outside, inside looks fine. I attribute it more to birch being ugly as sin rather than my project.
I'll keep these following ones in spoilers until I can figure out the thumbnail thing...
Quote from ChadGarion25
Here is your log cabin framework, Abe would be so proud. It's hella hard to make because all I did was re-texture the furnace in game to make the illusion of logs, so I can't just place them on one another. Obviously the real thing won't be so restrictive.
Additional changes that may be needed
Quote from ChadGarion25Something I notice is this idea would require a slight texture modification to existing wood. The way it is now, the logs kind of meld together and looks like a solid entity. All that needs to be done is darken or lighten the side boarder of the log texture square so they look separate.
Some comments made that may be able to help clarify some confusion:
Quote from kingzut
I was gonna say something about this..but then I realized what you meant..I thought at first you were saying it should always be placed on the side..but I know now you mean it will face...kinda like a piston does..so you can set it different ways...I like it...support.
Mod support (for this suggestion)
(works on 1.2.5): Compliments to Koopinator for the wonderful work on the mod to make this suggestion "unofficially" possible
-Download Link: Download
-Installation (Uses Modloader): Copy the mod files to Minecraft.jar, delete your meta inf folder, enjoy.
-Features:
--Place Log blocks horizontally.
-Notice:
You will need to have modloader set up to run it, but otherwise all you will need to do is drag the contents of the .zip file into your jar. Since it is an early release, YOU SHOULD CREATE A BACKUP IN ORDER TO KEEP YOUR SAVES SAFE. There shouldn't be any major issues, but there are changes made to the pp (BlockLog) class that may affect your old worlds in annoying ways.
PS...
Pictures are worth so many more words than any regular explanation can give and I think that the more pictures we have to support the possibilities of this idea the more people will be able to see how much this is needed!

throwindwn posted a message on Boiling Water (Not For Hot Tubs!)First off I know that people have suggested boiling water before, but it looks like most of their suggestions didn't have a really practical purpose to them.Posted in: Suggestions
Usage
What I was thinking is to make boiling water usable in the upcoming 1.3 update. You could place the boiling water inside a dispenser and when activated, the boiling water would pour down on the enemy from above. I think that the boiling water should not be a stream coming from a source block indefinitely, but rather have aprx. 5-7 blocks worth of water be produced and then dissipate once the water hits a solid surface.
Via Kratox
I'm not sure if this could be implemented easily, but if an animal such as a chicken, cow or pig wanders into a boiling water trap and dies, they would drop the cooked variation of the food which they would normally drop. (If somebody could inform me on the possibility of this that would be appreciated. I don't know if there can be modifiers on what the mob drops based on how it was killed)
Benefits
Boiling water will not destroy the environment or your house when it is used on a mob.
Via Kratox
A benefit of boiling water over lava as a trap would be that it would not burn up items which mobs drop, therefore making it a good option for harvesting drops and XP from mobs.
Damage
Boiling water could inflict a half a heart of damage for each block of water which comes in contact with the enemy (Even though there may only be 5 blocks of water flowing out, each block would likely hit the enemy more than once if it doesn't move out of the way)
[It appears I need to clarify something here. This trap would likely not kill any aggressive mob unless it was already injured. The max damage I can see this doing is 7 hearts worth, and that is if the mob just stands in the way of it and takes it. On the low end I can see this doing about 2.5 hearts worth. This is NOT intended to be a fatal trap to aggressive mobs by itself. With this being said, farm animals would be much more likely to take a fatal amount of damage from this, which I think is just fine and would make it very useful in automated farms used to collect drops from pigs, cows, chickens, etc.]
Recipe
Put your regular bucket of water in the furnace with a bucket of lava to produce a bucket of boiling water. I think the recipe should require a bucket of lava instead of just coal or any other fuel source to make it slightly more challenging to acquire.
Feedback is appreciated. Let me know what you think about the damage and usage and if you have any tweaks. -

throwindwn posted a message on Boiling Water (Not For Hot Tubs!)While this may not be an ultra realistic idea and may not be the most deadly thing out there, I still thing it would be a cheap and effective way of damaging or killing some mobs.Posted in: Suggestions
Oh no, not boiling water, I'm sure such a powerful weapon has won whole wars. Stick to spike blocks. Jeb and Dinnerbone have both mentioned they wanted to add them and they have a lot more uses. As for item destruction, I'm pretty sure Jeb said he wanted to make spike blocks not destroy items and even if he didn't, it's something we can ask for next when they are added.
No support, the idea of using boiling water is ludicrous. It wouldn't stay hot long enough and it wouldn't get to a fatal temperature. Boiling pitch on the other hand would be a gooey, violent death.
If you read my post thoroughly then you would see that a mob being hit by this trap would probably take between 5 and 7 hearts worth of damage (assuming each boiling water block hits the mob twice as it passes over their body). If the mob (or player) moves out of the way of the trap instead of just standing there and getting hit then it would probably take anywhere from 2.5-5 hearts worth of damage.
Now I may not be a genius, but from what I can tell from these numbers, it would appear that not a single aggressive mob would be killed by this trap even if max damage were dealt.
Boiling water hurts like hell, but it's only the steam that can be fatal
it wouldn't get to a fatal temperature
I never even said that this trap would be fatal to enemies, yet you seem pretty hung up on this.
The fact that you argue that it wouldn't stay hot long enough is crazy. If you want to make a realism argument for everything that is in the game or could be in the game then you would be creating a completely new enviornment not recognizable to the current minecraft.
Jeb and Dinnerbone...
And for my last point, I appologize for not hanging on every word of the minecraft developers about an upcoming block and feature that could possible implemented in minecraft. Some of us just enjoy playing the game and if we have an idea about it we will post it with the intention of recieving feedback (both positive and negative) about it. It would just be nice for a change to not have pompous members bashing ideas as opposed to giving quality criticism in a professional manner.
Lets end on a positive note shall we? Thanks for the support TheMineroftheDept
Support the idea though! -

leson88 posted a message on A Better Snow Golem is a Happy Snow Golem...Is there really a physical use for Snow Golems? They only make the snowy biomes look good and populated, and throw snowballs in a suicidal nature, even though they don't deal any damage unlike to Blazes. But what if Snow Golems in general could do better? That's what i'm suggesting.Posted in: Suggestions
Different Materials to Throw: Pretty self-explanatory. If you throw down a material such a Fire Charge, Snow Golems will go down to collect it, maybe in like a 5 block radius. Whatever amount the Snow Golem has collected, will have in its so called "inventory." When it sees a hostile mob, it will chuck whatever "ammo" it has in its "inventory" at the mob. it will do the same amount of damage a dispenser does. Once it runs out of that "ammo," it will then revert back to snowballs. If the mob dies with still some left, the remaining will drop as a resource item. Here are some in which the Snow Golems can throw:
Flint: Why Flint? Because it's a sharp material, and it's pretty moderately common item. because it's sharp, it'll deal 2 hearts of damage, with a chance of dealing a critical hit, the only special ability of the throwable item. It will deal half amount of a Mob's health except to the Enderdragon and Endermen (because they teleport.)
Clay Balls: Why Clay? because it is an abundant resource, or so I think, whatever, it gives 4 Clay balls per block. it's basically a blunt weapon for Snow Golems and is low quality, but deals 1.5 Heart of damage per hit. Nothing really special.
Slimeballs: Yep, I said slime. One can hold up to 32 of it, and once it has hit a mob, the mob will GRADUALLY and not instantly slow down to 50% its speed. Very useful if you want to stop mobs from seizing a Village in Creative.
Any Block Material: Yes, you can give Snowmen any blocks to throw at Mobs. However, it will only deal 1 Heart. but here's there special ability: They can be reused. Most blocks are hard and compact, so it would make sense if you can reuse them. Makes an efficient yet basic use. However, most blocks are heavy to man, so it'll only carry 24. Here's the catch: They will throw blocks, not ENTITIES. So i'm saying, that when you are rubbing diamonds in the face of your friend, Snowmen aren't going to pick them up and throw them at zombies. I meant like cobblestone and Planks and stuff like that.
Wait, Doesn't this mean that there will no longer be a use for Dispensers?
Not quite. You see:
1.) Dispensers are more direct then Snow Golems.
2.) They are still useful to traps, and mobs such as skeletons can't kill them.
3.) They're more controllable than Snow Golems.
4.) They're activated by Redstone, and Snow Golems don't.
5.) They're much more protected and is only an object.
Wait, could they set trees on fire then?
No, not when Snow Golems are throwing them. Because they are icy cold, they're coldness will affect the Fire charge, and bring it down to little environmental damage. Here's the downfall of holding Fire Charges: Snow Golems will have a shorter health bar, and will melt sooner. Also a 10% chance that the Fire Charge will set the snow Golem on Fire.
This is only to power up Snow Golems. I only thought of one suggestion only because Snow Golems are so cheap to make once you find pumpkins and a Snow Biome, and the materials are somewhat hard to get to balance it out so that you don't have an Army of them ready to attack and defend. -

Neospector posted a message on Random Enchants are stupid, make it optionalRandom enchantments are so that everyone in a server does not go running around dealing 10 hearts of damage in every hit of a sword while being invincible from protection on their armor.Posted in: Suggestions
When you apply a magical buff to an object, it's either random, has a chance of failure, or both. This is true for every game, so that people aren't overpowered god-like people who can one-hit KO a boss.
You're comparing a restaurant to enchantments? Are you insane? A restaurant is a place where you spend money for food. You can do this with villagers, and you do not get random food. Enchantments are magical buffs to your tools and weapons, they are random for a very good reason. Does applying a scroll to an item in Maplestory always give you +5 on every stat? Hell no, that's overpowered. You get random stats or you have a chance of failure. So, unless you want a chance of that diamond sword being destroyed while enchanting to balance the game, suck it up and deal with the random enchantments. - To post a comment, please login.

That isn't a new idea. There are already unique villages in desert biomes so i'm sure it will only be a matter of time before they exist in the other ones too. Your builds a a bit haphazard anyway...don't seem to fit well into the biomes.
