Jun 12, 2014JSkare posted a message on Mojang Announcement: EULA, and ServersYou all are overthinking this way too much. They're updating their EULA so they have the legal power to take down the bigger violators of the agreement. Game companies are forced to do this so they can't get torn apart by lawsuits. If they seriously wanted to wipe out all servers that violate the EULA, they could. However, it isn't worth their time, money and man-power to do so.Posted in: News

... mods can really liven up the game! ...
Agreed. There are even mods that add new dimensions, such as the Aether. LOTS of replayability can be found with mods.
Also, the modding community for Minecraft is so large that you really can't say it isn't just another part of the game. I know there are people out there that are puritans and only like vanilla, but I honestly have a lot of fun with mods and would recommend them to anyone who has yet to have a taste.

And with regards to the amount of new players that this will bring to the game, that already happened a couple years ago. The 12 year olds that joined then are now 14. You see new players as a negative, when in reality they are what help games grow. More money flow will inevitably mean more willingness from Microsoft to pour money into bettering the game.

For those who don't know what that is, it was a part of last year's April Fools hoax. (see here, or the spoiler)
"Super Hostile Mode" is an occasional event (every 2-5 minutes on Purple), consisting of a shower of lightning bolts around the player (and usually striking the player at least once), while spawning a large number of powerful monsters in the area and applying the Blindness status to the player. These spawns include not only heavily armed and armored zombies and skeletons, and multiple charged creepers, but even the occasional Blaze and other unexpected monsters. All of these are apparently triggered by "punching wood" or crafting anything. Naturally, this is one of the first things a survival player will need to do...
Regarding the Master difficulty, what about a difficulty/setting that simply prevents hostile mobs from burning in sunlight?
Also, as VampArcher said, mobs that never despawn would be very taxing on your computer. The main reason a mob will despawn is if you move too far away from it. If they never despawned, you would essentially have every mob you ever run past loaded at the same time.
I think your next step should be to sketch out what you want included in each gamemode, specifically.

Okay, you're right. I realize now that I shouldn't have used that as my main critique.
However, what I said about balancing still stands. Adding something like guns to a game balanced with swords and bows, at least the gun the OP suggested, would be game breaking.

I'm giving you my opinion as well m8, and I already said I'm not opposed to guns. Nice job defending your suggestion though... lol

Do a little research. The Modding/Plugin API is a planned update that will make it easy to download/install mods. My point was, spending time coding guns takes away from time spent coding more important things. Things, again, that they already have said they are going to implement. This would include primarily vanilla content, the new API is just another feature they have been teasing about for years.
On top of that, adding a new weapon always requires a lot of balance to make sure they fit in the game. Especially a gun that you're saying will be more powerful than a bow. Bows are already able to do a good amount of damage, so without majorly changing previous content (like for example nerfing bows) they would most likely need to add another tier of armor, or something to that extent.
Why not just keep guns as mods/plugins? If you think mods are too complicated to install, you've never used one before.

Minecraft is a game focused heavily on player created content (i.e. mods). Changes to the game at this point should NOT be adding more needless content. When I see Mojang releasing updates that consist just of bug fixes and a couple new blocks or mobs, it really gets under my skin. They have promised many things, most notably the Modding (Plugin) API, and have yet to follow through. I'm sure many people can agree with me when I say that the last thing the game needs right now is for the development team to focus on adding insignificant bits of content. Rather, they should be working to implement features that legitimately improve the game.
That being said I'm not opposed to guns in Minecraft. I've played on servers that use gun plugins and had a good time. But that is how they should stay - as plugins. Adding something like a new weapon to vanilla Minecraft would probably take tons of work and balancing that ultimately is just a big waste of time. Also, with a Modding API on the way at some point, there will essentially be no need for more vanilla content. Aside from bug fixes and minor changes, the game will be self-sustained via mods.

Anyway, what I mean by lighting fixtures is adding in lamps and lights that are place-able. I'm creating a modern apocalyptic city at the moment on my server, and I'm finding torches to not be what I really want.
Here's my request:
