This is my first publicly available texture pack attempt, but this is not my first work, so criticize away!

Flyover is a work in progress trying for a sort of 'Murican-Town-In-The-Middle-Of-No-One-Cares vibe.

A shot of Flyover mainstreet, of course economicmeltdownlol has hit the buisnesses hard, many boarded up with plywood and left to rot, also, the planning department got drunk and placed it next to an abandoned shipyard. Also, terribad Steve "Change" style poster.

Here is the aformentioned shipyard from the otherside of the massive pile of shipping containers, there are 3 colors each with normal and logoed variations. This area has gone unnoticed and seems to be harboring graffiti artists, and possibly something more criminal...

A shot of the sunbleached "Welcome to Flyover" sign that greets the 3 visitors that come to Flyover.

A shot of the "Your passing Drive-By" sign that also greets passing travelors to Flyover's sistertown, Drive-By.

"Over a year"? Try over 4 years! Minecraft was first publically released in May 2009!

Except it wasn't fully released untill about late 2011.

posted a message on Horses Break Minecraft Design "Rules"
    Quote from hastypixels

First, thank you all for the feedback. It was very interesting!

The thing to understand about the "rules" is they aren't written in 1) stone and 2) necessarily in a formal manner. Notch had an specific idea of how Minecraft should look and play. When he handed over the reigns to Dinnerbone and Jeb, clearly their styles differ. That's only natural and may have a very positive impact on MC over time.

It struck me what will impact players across the board: playability. Two examples of this are: Performance which is measurable by frame rate and stability. Aesthetic appeal impacting player interest, which is usually mitigated by texture/resource packs, but not in the case of character/entity models.

Minecraft is limitlessly mod-able, and though I'd like to see more documentation (I expect we will come the full release of the Mod API), almost nothing is impossible. There's no wonder why Minecraft is quickly becoming the most played game in computing history. I want that to continue, don't you?

Horses will not break MC. Nope. However, they will irritate and alienate horse riders and fans. This means fewer players.

How would you, as a player, feel, if Mojang included a particular gun but didn't get the stock configuration right? Take any example of a subject are passionate about. They can do the research. Is it a sign of disrespect? What is Mojang saying? That it's okay for us to love Minecraft, but not to want accuracy in the topics we love that they represent?

Virtual environments such as Minecraft have a duty to fans - we paid for the experience, we'll be the ones bringing more people in - to show suitable respect for the real creatures and objects they represent. Horses deserve equal treatment to say... fire, which is represented accurately. I'm not talking about artistic license, either. Horses are not built like the model proposed by Mojang.

When player created mods have done a better job, why does Mojang feel it necessary to ignore the hard work and get it wrong?

I don't expect Mojang to change the horse models, but I know horse lovers who cringe at the models they're proposing to use in the upcoming release of Minecraft.

Put yourself in their seat. If they were featuring your map, wouldn't you prefer they used the best screenshots you had?

All that being said, I continue to look forward to the expansion of Minecraft and will continue to support it going forward. I want better, don't you?

    Minecraft is awesome!

Oh so you didn't just pull it out of thin air, you pulled it out of smug and self-righeous air.
Also, the bolded part, boo-hoo a thing is not 104% accurate to what is representing, and what would irritate horse riders with this model?

At least you didn't pull out the BS "MINECRAFT UPDATES ARE FREE!!111" comment.

Except literally every update after 1.0/when you aquired it (if you got it after 1.0), you did not pay for, and therefor, is free.

Holy Christ your post is ridiculous. These 'rules' and 'conventions' are purely arbitrary and pointless, and your lasting sentence of your post is both pretentious and presumptuous. Get over yourself.

They probably shouldn't add biomes since it goes against the established rules of the game. Or hostile mobs. Or the Nether and End. Or enchanting and potions. Or wolves and ocelots. Or anvils and bats and doubling the game's building height. Mojang shouldn't add any new content because it will interrupt the status quo that I have decreed. We should keep Minecraft always pure and constant:

Nah, that goes against the status quo established here:

Has anyone else noticed that the horses break nearly every established rule for mobs in Minecraft?

    Screenshot: https://dl.dropboxus...raft_Horses.jpg

    1. They have flexible legs (Steve once had these, but they were abolished because they didn't fit with the game style)
    2. Random Skins (skin overlays are a great idea, though)
    3. Too-complex texture maps and models (the dragon is scarcely more complex)
    4. Pre-attached interactive objects (example, saddles aren't in pig skin textures)

Here's me looking beyond the fact that they resemble dogs more than horses.

It's not that Minecraft can't change the rules along the way - the revamped resource system has re-ordered the entire texture structure into something far more logical. Everything is now properly named, eliminating guesswork.

If they're going to change the rules, can we expect cows with random skins and uniquely colored creepers in the future? Should we?

This is a change in the expected behavior of an established experience, and always carries with it risks. In my opinion this adds confusion from a design perspective. The change has to be worthwhile, otherwise players will be quietly estranged and put off.

    Especially those who know horses.

Where is your source? (I'm going to assume the same source that defines what "Minecrafty" is, www.imadeitup.com)
Because, as far as I know, there is no official documentation of how a mob should look. Also, you mentioned the dragon has only slightly more textural fidelity, so there for, it also breaks your false rules and horses don't have flexible legs, that is a fabrication in every sense of the word. Finally, pre-attached interactive objects is pretty much an entirely internal thing that has no effect on visual design. and what would improve horses by spiting off the saddle texture into it's own texture file anyways?

You know... You should remove the "college drop-out weirdo" part as he already told his fans to stop spamming budder.

Yeah, at this point we can take him out of the line of blame, his attempt to stop his own meme and that it has done nothing shows that he is not in control of the Sky Army anymore.

So do the arrows remove themselves or do you have to hold a button or something? Also arrows don't impact your health at all as far as I know so what would be the usefulness of this?

I would asume picking out the arrows would add them to your inventory.

Absolutely supported, all of it. From the main draw to the system for distance-restricted chat, all of it seems fitting to the Minecraft "theme". It's place would probably be best on the harder/more realisticly inclined spectrum of survival servers and roleplaying servers, and the distance-restricted chat would also be useful for adding some dynamics to PvP just imagine some clan discussing thier attack plans, thinking they are safe from others hearing them, not knowing of a hidden spy overhearing their discussion.

Oh of course, it's magic. Let's just demote all unknown phenomenons down to "magik didz it, moov along."

The idea of magic is probably one of mankinds largest hindrance to development. Without the idea of magic we wouldn't have the middle ages, superstitions, religion and many other problems we have today. The only reason we live in a modern world today is because after thousands of years of irrational thinking, a couple people decided "hey, instead of creating highly fabricated myths to explain the unknown, why do we logically try to understand it."

Show that annoyance! Also, "Magic Did It" is not an explanation, we already have one: "Idiots Brainwashed By Some Collage Drop-Out With a Squid Murdering Obsession Did It".

The other time I attacked an admin on a survival server (Who was apparently invincible) because he was taking down a giant tower I built because it was too close to spawn, about 7 hours into the construction of it.
