If you're just starting and only need to compress the file, Windows Movie Maker will do the job. However, for advanced/good edits I recommend Adobe Premiere or another software of the like.

Edit: I see you posted right when I was typing But my Audacity comment still applies. It's freee!

For recording your voice, I use Audacity. It's not a good idea to record your footage and gameplay sounds as one because if you need to cut your voice off/change a clip, you would also mess up the game sound. And to be honest, you're not going to find any good free recording software that doesn't either have a time cap or a watermark.

Cried that I would need to update plugins and servers again. Then I went back to playing 1.5.2 survival with mods.

I am creating a modpack and am wondering what your policies about modpacks are. I would love to include this mod! Please get back to me and let me know if I can go ahead and add Desperation Food to my modpack!

This thread is pretty old, so I'm assuming you don't know about the new Spout client/server engine. The Spout team is developing their own version of Minecraft to work on their own voxel platform. Developers will be able to create anything with this new client/engine, so a MCF port to Spout would not be needed.
