siamese zombie - zombie with two heads, dual sound, dual bite
spitting spider - spits venom, climbs walls, jumps like a chump
hawk - aggressive bird, spawns max height, dive-bombs
snakes - dark spawn, caves, warm rocks, romantic walks on the beach
player 2 - uses player skin, spawns in mines, grabs harvested blocks you haven't picked up, doesn't drop anything back
mostly silly, all with technical problems, just brainstorming
If anything, the size of this thread alone should prove to Mojang how much people hunger for more mobs, creatures, and ambiance. And a modding api.
This might be of help to you but it's not really that in-depth, just a smattering of quick examples for you to see and then let your creativity run wild. The more you play with it, the more you'll get it.
Massive scale toaster trap, very nice. It's always impressive to see the lengths people will go to commit genocidal revenge on the baddies of Minecraft.
As for the SW rule: Water works in the same way, sort of; at least the corners do.
Here's a save file with a ton of traps, provided you are able to find them, Regardless, there's a water elevator there which relies on the SW rule: http://www.multiupload.com/D25NR8A8VA
No one knows how long these direction-dependent mechanics will stay in the code, but it's been a fun glitch for a long time.

After giving up on tunneling miles under the ground in Minecraft, I've placed a minecart system through the nether to link the portals in Iriseon's Ice World. This is a short video showing the construction as well as a few tips on making one yourself. You can download the save file and try it yourself here: http://tinyurl.com/IriseonNethercart
A journey linking the terrain from one portal exit to another, 2x speed, with mcmap png overviews to detail the progress. Enhanced with tracks from C418 and smn's "A Cobblers Tee Thug" album; please support their hard work at c418.org
So why "Compass Chunks"? -The terrain generation was very "chunky" while patching existing portions with new land both in appearance and performance. The best part is at night, waiting out the various nasties, surveying the landscape popping in tune with "dish." All of the tracks have been placed with themes in mind.
"bai" waves farewell to base 2 and starts the journey.
"dish" darkly throbs at night while creatures roam and the land builds
"goltra" meshes with the disjointed, scattered errors at the last leg of the journey
"wtg" sounds celebratory, as is the happy arrival home. Way to go!
(Unfortunately, recorded at 5:4 aspect ratio again. This would have been great without black bars all over the place.)

After a night of very successful mining on the biome boundary of Iriseon's Ice World and another night of endless editing, this c418/Minecraft mashup is the result, compressing hours into minutes like magic. Also: 106 Iron, 26 gold, 6 diamond, 384 coal, 1 (new) zombie spawner.
All music is from c418's album "life changing moments seem minor in pictures" using all 7 "Long songs are for people who don't have time to make them short." Please support him at c418.org!
The 6150SE is an onboard graphics card for nforce 430 motherboards, usually in Dell or Gateway or eMachines computers. You will need to go to nvidia's website and download new drivers.
You will want to download both newer graphics cards drivers and then check to see if you need to download new motherboard drivers in the legacy section (although it will probably only update sata raid drivers and nothing to do with OpenGL).
If all else fails, pick up a new gfx card on the cheap, like an old nvidia 9600gt.
..and going to butt in again with my one-trick pony, basically because it's not a water trap and not really a lava trap and no loot is lost.
the two methods can be combined as one but I'm pretty sure chickens would only work with the small version
if you can somehow force the chickens through the collection area and press them against the a single lava toaster it might work, instead of using cacti.
Absolutely! I've been spending more time in the nether lately than in the "overworld" but it's become more of a long path than a squat, blocky base. It's a little like onezerotwo's base, which looks snazzy, but not as creative as nocht's.
This is an oldish video; been into making paths through falling lava as of late.

oh yeah, and the portal exited right into a dungeon. Good thing it was on peaceful to stop overspawning ghasts from crashing Java. Does anyone know if that has been fixed?
A belated thank you and nice paintings :wink.gif: I noticed you use higher textures though, and while I don't have any 64x64 textures, I do have a wild 32x32 texture I made for one of these texture pack collabs that exploded in the hangar so...here they are. It was originally a thrown together swirly to be used as a more interesting mob spawner graphic but a quick re-color and voila, surreal swirly nether.
I don't use anything higher than 16x16, so no proper in-game screenshots this time but here's a small collage to see the wicked tiling effect in action:
Feel free to use these, resize, recolor, whatever. Enjoy or not, have fun!
Excellent, I've been looking for someone to make a better version and grab a video. Version 4 will focus on making a design using (hopefully) only 1 lava source or 1 burning netherblock, trying to press zombies or skeletons against the north-east, but it's going to take a few days to get the time to build (if it works!), encode, and upload. Hopefully someone with a faster computer and a little more time will beat me to it. :wink.gif:
Thanks for the kind words guys, and good luck with your trap foszae; sounds like a fun project.

Obsidian Skeleton - all black, shoots fire arrows, possibly nether-only
Portal Beast - Purple slimes, spawn around portals
Flower Creeper - A normal flower until you get near it, then up out of the ground pops a creeper with a flower on it's head
bee cloud/colony - a swarm of bees, spawns near trees
piranha cloud - in water!
wood ants/termites - cloud of ants, eats wood, killed by destroying the wood block(s) they are eating
hydra/dragon - something huge in the nether, you only see it's head sticking out of lava, spawns in lava 2 deep and 8 wide
scorpion - spawns on sand only
alien - spawns near cows at night, throws a "light grenade" (dunno, call it space plasma) as if the sun had come out, setting mobs and player on fire
giant octopus - tentacle love
mimic chest - like Final Fantasy games, spawns in dungeons, fake chest with teeth
nether imp - small imps like dungeon keeper, spawns in 3's in the nether, anklebiters
salamander - ditto the imp
Frost Wizard - freezes players in ice, suffocating them, snow spawned
siamese zombie - zombie with two heads, dual sound, dual bite
spitting spider - spits venom, climbs walls, jumps like a chump
hawk - aggressive bird, spawns max height, dive-bombs
snakes - dark spawn, caves, warm rocks, romantic walks on the beach

Lava works great because it spreads 4 blocks of killing heat

but netherrack works well for compact situations
