Well, since your not going to be buying until Christmas, you should wait, build up some extra cash while your at it, since by Chirstmas, some high-end stuff from today will be much cheaper by Christmas..
Even if your only going to play Minecraft and surf the web, I'd still get it, since you'd never know when that one PC game comes out and you can only play it on PC, then you wouldn't have such a good computer to run it D:
Anyways, get a HAF 912 or HAF 922 for the case, I only recommend (:
Besides, Minecraft doesn't need more RAM just for 512x texture packs. Texture packs below that resolution or certain mods may require more RAM. Even if you aren't using any texture packs or mods it is nice to enjoy a (even if just slight) FPS boost.
Once again, great numbers, but no evidence. I said that it was recommended to have a 64-bit operating system to play demanding games, not required. If a case comes along where someone cannot follow the instructions because they have a 32-bit operating system, I'll add in that 32-bit operating systems won't get as big a boost in performance as 64-bit operating systems.
Even if you allocate 16GB's of RAM to Minecraft, you wouldn't see any boost in FPS what so ever.
Minecraft is completely CPU and partly GPU Dependant.
Also, there's no point in having 64-bit Java on a 32-bit OS, since 32-bit can only read half the bandwidth as 64-bit, so sticking a 64-bit version of Java will have no affect what so ever on a 32-bit OS.
Specs = specifications. Btw when he says 60-65 I think he's talking about when he is on all low settings, so in that case it probably isn't average. The reason I'm asking for specs is because the way I would fix that problem would be different based on how much RAM he had, and how good of a graphics card he had. Hope I can help danbob! :biggrin.gif:
Um.. Okay..
I'm pretty sure I know what I'm posting and I don't need someone else to "Re-Explain" my post.. And all I'm asking for is his Computer "Specifications", if you don't mind.
So, you could run the game with the Minecraft.jar version?
But with no sound?
Well, if you keep playing with the Minecraft.jar launcher, the sound files will eventually load since you would've installed a fresh copy of your .minecraft folder.

Done.

The 650W PSU will leave him room for *some* upgrades, so if he has the cash, he can keep the PSU or even get a better one.

Sorry, just a bit tired, thought you meant installing 64-bit Java in a 32-bit OS will give you a performance boost.
My bad.

There's only 1 512x512 Texture pack I've seen on the forums, and that's long gone.
