The 550 Ti is just a re-branded GTS450 with higher clocks and wider memory bandwidth. Yet the performance difference's between the 550 Ti and GTS450 is still quite comparable.
Old build(custom yet it was good at the time 11 years ago)
Single core pentium 2.8ghz
512mb ram
250gigs of hd
radeon 8800( 400$ at the time lolz now its 60$)
asus mobo
New build( amazing for 500$)
FX4100 3.8ghz quadcore
8 gigs of corsair ram
Sapphire 6850( soon to be a sapphire 7850)
4 terabytes of hd space
360gigs of ssd
Im calling BS on that. $500 for all that? Not to mention, there are no 360GB SSDs, 4TB of Storage would atleast be $200 to $300 alone, and there are other things such as the GPU which was probably aroun $150-$180...
Save up your money and use this instead: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/6qMu It'll run pretty much every game on max settings, except the horribly coded Metro: 2033.
570 running every game on max settings? No.
The 570 is where the price:performance ratio drops. So I wouldn't suggest that at all, I'd suggest either a GTX680, Radeon HD7950 or 7970. All of which are in the OP's budget, so why would you stick a 570 in there when the OP has a big budget?
The Caviar Blacks are currently not worth the price, the Seagate Barracuda's are the same quality, yet cheaper.
I included a keyboard and mouse too as I wasn't sure if you had one or not. Logitech is a great brand, I have several of their products right now and have never had an issue. If you want to switch out the keyboard/mouse feel free, I didn't know if you had one or not.
I would put in a nice 128GB or 120GB SSD from either Intel or Crucial. Change the PSU to a more reliable brand, Antec's PSU's are mediocre. I'd go for one from Corsair, especially their AX Series.
I'd recommend dropping the Extreme7 Gen3 to an Extreme4 Gen3, save money and I don't think OP will be using all the SATA ports, let alone the extra 2 SATA 6GB/s ports that come with the Extreme7.
Not that much a fan of apple products, but I was stuck with an old Nokia for about 4 years. Saw this on special and said hey, why not. I had an old iPod 2nd Gen 8GB so why not have both my iPod and Phone in one?
Here's a good one: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/68qw
I would remove the SSD if you can't go over budget. I would also wait for nVidia's new GPU to come out, which will be similarly priced with better performance.
Changed the motherboard to a ASRock Z68 Extreme3 Gen3, it's a Z68 board, perfectly fine, cheaper and since he'll be using a SSD, he can make use of the SSD caching.
Changed the case to a NZXT Switch 210 Elite. Nice good budget mid-tower.
And finally, changed the PSU to a Corsair TX650 V2 650W Power Supply. No need for 750W, even if he were to SLI/Crossfire two cards.
As for the peripherals, those are completely his choice.
Ok that makes sense and what cpu are u upgrading it to
also is 64 gb ssd ok for windows 7 and such because im building a pc soon ad debating whether to get 64 or 120
If you have enough for the 120/128 GB SSD, then go for it.
I have a 60GB OCZ Vertex Plus SSD for my OS, and with all the drivers etc, it'll fill up pretty fast, But only get the 128GB if you are going to put your most important programs on it.
I have a pair of Logitech G930 Wireless Headset which is really good, a lot of professional gamers on YouTube use either that or the G35 version. The difference between the two is that the G35 isn't wireless.
Still, it could have a better proccessor. Anyway, I' m not in any mood to start arguing about it any longer, so let' s just finish this here.
It would even be better if you could fit into the budget (or buy it later) to get a SSD to save Windows into. According to a research, Windows saved in SSDs take 66% less time to load than your average HDD.
SSD's aren't really needed that much. Unless the OP is impatient.
Posting my opinion doesn' t make me an idiot. I dare to say that the whole last day I considered YOU idiots because you just insisted on the HD6950. I' m not in a mood to keep on bragging about it, but you can' t just call me an idiot because I have an opinion in these forums. Prices differ from place to place, and getting anything above HD6850 here where I live costs you at least 200€, which is ~265$. I don' t know the actual US prices, but I still believe that the HD6950 is unaffordable (at least here) with an 850$ bugdet.
If I made it fit into that budget, then it's affordable.
I know! And an 850w psu that doesn't make any sense. You don't even have any left over wattage to SLI (though you might be able to squeeze it, Idk. Still not a safe idea). But yeah, spend sh*t loads of money on an overkill processor and get a 570....*facekeyboard*
You can SLI 570's with an 850W PSU, heck even two 580s.
The 570 's not that bad of a card, it's just considered where the price:performance ratio drops.

Try sticking in a Z68 Motherboard for future upgrades.

Left the Keyboard, Mouse and Monitor slot empty, those should be OP's choice. Not ours.

Eh, the CPU and Mobo could use an upgrade, the 6870 is getting bottlenecked by his CPU.
720P is quite a low resolution.. And even at full screen you should be getting a bit more than what you're getting.

Made a few changes to your build:

Also kept it under his budget.

I can also suggest the Corsair Vengeance 1500, Cooler Master Storm Sirius or the Razer Tiamat.

Yes, you'll have to replace that CPU as it is bottlenecking with your GPU and it's out-dated.
