I think I found a bug... Your pistons can push each other, but normal pistons can't push your pistons.

I can still make my contraption work by using your double pistons in the place of normal pistons, but it forces everything to take up a lot more space. D:

Awesome mod though... one of my favorites by far!

I think if it's untested and unsupported... the only way to find out is testing it yourself.

I kinda got that, I was just wondering if the guy I quoted knew, since he was obviously going to try it.

You need to enable chunk loader blocks in the config if your using a server. You can find the config in /buildcraft/config/AdditionalPipes.cfg and set Chunkloader.Enabled to true. In the future to avoid looking like idiots again, look in the config first or just read the documentation of the mod, derp

    You mean like this?

Here to also confirm that Chunkloader blocks do not work. I just set up a quarry on my server and surrounded the whole thing with Chunkloader blocks(at least 20 of them) and when I get back to my house 600m away nothing flows through anymore(using teleport pipes).

posted a message on insane unplayable lag spikes whenever I leave my house
    Quote from gerbil

The pie chart shows the majority of your time going to Tick and Sound.

Tick would tend to indicate block updates.
Sound.. is unusual, not sure why that would be so high?

In any case, you've configured your memory absolutely wrong.
You have 8GB total, and you've told your minecraft client that it can use 8GB.
Which you couldn't really do even if you were NOT also running a server on the same machine.

Of the 8GB that you have, you must allow some for the OS, some for the server, and some for the client.
The sum of these must be no more than 8G in order to expect a stable system.

Currently your client has grown its heap to 1G, which means your client is using ~1.5G of system memory.
Your OS and background processes are hopefully using less than 1G, which would allow your server to use 5.5G probably.
If it is using more, that could cause your trouble.

This is also the kind of problem that could develop over time as your world and your development of it gets larger, and takes more memory.

Thanks for your reply, I already knew that I was giving the server & game more memory that I have together, but I'm not a fan of automatically cutting off their resources. I have been monitoring my RAM usage myself instead instead of giving them limits. My memory usage with server & MC both running is only around 60-65%(including OS, Browser, etc). I doubt this is the problem, but I will continue to keep an eye on it.

I also noticed the sound usage which has me completely puzzled also. I've been looking into that myself & think it may be due to a sound bug in IC2 that is still around. I'm going to try removing certain sounds from the mod today. I'm more concerned about the high tick usage. I've read about it being related to the number of entities in your world, but it makes no sense that leaving my house(where the most block updates and item entities are) would cause it to expand in usage rapidly(occasionally up to 90% by it's self). We haven't set off any nukes or had any explosions that would cause a high amount of loose items in the world at all...

Edit: Tested, and it was the sound bug causing my lag. Specifically the watermill loop. I deleted that sound and my game is running fine again. Better than fine, my fps doubled from 100-120 to 180-200. Sorry to waste people's time when it was a mod causing it. D:

posted a message on insane unplayable lag spikes whenever I leave my house
So my friends and I decided to host a new server with IC2, redpower, buildcraft, forestry, the works. It works completely fine for an entire week, no issues 100+ FPS, and now all of a sudden I can't leave my house. if I try to go anywhere more than a few steps outside my house my fps drops to 1-10fps and the game lags me to death unless I just sit there and don't move for 5 minutes, and even then, my frame rate never goes back above 40 with minor lag spikes.

I'm hosting the server on my PC but like I said I had zero issues before today.

    My Specs:

    Processor: Intel Core i7-860 Lynnfield 2.8GHz 8MB L3 Cache LGA 1156 95W Quad-Core Processor(Overclocked - 4.0GHz)
    Memory: G.SKILL Trident 8GB (4 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600MHz (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory(overclocked - 2000MHz)
Hard Drive: Seagate Barracuda ES.2 ST31000340NS 1TB 7200 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive
    Video Card: EVGA 012-P3-1470-AR GeForce GTX 470 (Fermi) 1280MB 320-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Support Video Card(Overclocked -

    Monitor: Ativa™ AT240HP 23.6" Widescreen LCD Monitor
Sound Card: Creative 70SB073A00000 7.1 Channels 24-bit 96KHz PCI Interface Sound Blaster X-Fi XtremeGamer
Headphones: RAZER Carcharias 3.5mm Connector Circumaural Professional Gaming Headset
    Keyboard: Logitech G11 Gaming Keyboard
Mouse: RAZER Naga 17-Button Massively Multiplayer Online Gaming Mouse
    Operation System: Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit (6.1, Build 7600) (7600.win7_gdr.100618-1621)
Motherboard: EVGA P55 SLI 132-LF-E655-KR LGA1156 Intel P55 ATX Intel Motherboard

    Sorry it's a little long, It's copy/pasted.

    Screenshot:

    I'm using optifine, and have
    javaw -Xmx8192m -Xincgc -jar "C:\Users\Administrator\AppData\Roaming\.minecraft\minecraft.exe"

as my launch parameters(both server and client respectably). No one on my server complains of this lag, & the only thing I have that they don't is optifine(they use mcpatcher).
I would rather not switch to mcpatcher because of a bug it creates with some of my textures(biofuel in forestry becomes invisible for some reason).

Anyone have any idea what might be causing this?

posted a message on [1.1.0] [MCPMF] Magic Inventory (SMP) (0.5)
    Quote from CrypticZerg

Not sure what may be happening, but just to test it, I did the following:

    1. Empty out .minecraft directory
    2. Download windows .exe, run and login
    3. Let all the files download
    4. Download MagicInventory 0.4, extract to ~/.minecraft
    5. Download minecraft.jar from minecraft.net website, place in ~/.minecraft
    6. Run mcpms_1001_mc_100.jar
    7. End Result
Try to start with a fresh minecraft directory, just to see if it behaves the same way as it does presently. When you run the mcpms_1001...jar file, the pop-up window that has you login should come up, if it starts minecraft straight away, you won't have SMP support.

Ok, I tried it with a fresh install of Minecraft and got the same results as before. No multiplayer, but what I did notice is it isn't popping up the launcher window(log in window). It's just going straight to the game. From the sounds of it, this is the problem, but what is making it skip that step?
