Interestingly enough, in an essay I read a teacher described quite the opposite as happening; the union didn't care and the higher ups couldn't do anything about it:

As they sought to defend her, her father was stuck between two bad choices. Denying the claims, possibly weakening her defense, or saying he really did abuse her, which would probably send him to prison.

Well, drugs should be discussed, but not extensively. As long as they know the dangers and side effects, that's it. No need to elaborate or get them curious about drugs.
