My youngest child, who is in college, had her 22nd birthday yesterday. She got me hooked on Minecraft three years ago.
I was in my mid 40's when she was born.

Well, the holding chamber must be at least 9 blocks from the spawner, horizontally, and the place where you stand while AFK must be less than 16 blocks, in a straight line. So (in the image below) you'll want to be within the green circle, while keeping the mobs outside of the red rectangle:

steeve_steeve posted a message on Savanna Survival Journal (Nov. 14: Update 4)Now that the awesome 1.7 update rolled around, I thought it was the perfect opportunity to start a new survival world! So here we go, a new world.Posted in: Survival Mode
My seed is -1839047376, if anyone was wondering. All the settings are the defaults.
I'm going to try to post every few days, but don't take my word for it. If you're enjoying following along with my world, leave a comment, if not, then some criticism will be fine. Just some feedback.
Don't take anything too seriously.
1. Punching Wood (11/11/13)
Hey, not too bad of a spawn!
Oh maaaan look at these pretty looking trees. And note that brown sheep hanging out over there.
These stony ridges have some pretty convenient coal veins out in the open.
... I may or may not have fallen down this hole. Excellent. Good things I've got some tasty RAW CHICKEN!
This jerk just snuck up on me. That's what you get for playing with the sound off, kids.Good thing I've carved a nice little hole for myself, complete with an IKEA brand bed.
At least mining gave me some nice chunks of ore!
AW YISS
SEE THIS SPIDER? THIS JERK MADE HISSING NOISES AT ME FOR A GOOD 30 MINUTES
Until I finally found him over there, glaring at me from the vast 5-block lava ocean.
This 1.7 ore generation is pretty rad! Note, second picture is what I found after mining the lapis.
... Not quite sure why redstone is so common all of a sudden. 5 stacks? I don't even use redstone.
I guess I can make 5 stacks of clocks?
Aaah. That was a pretty nice first day, right? Time to go munch on some more raw chicken.
2. Housewarming Party (11/12/13)
What's that I see in the distance?
THAT'S RIGHT FOLKS. THE TITLES OF THIS JOURNAL FINALLY MAKES SENSE!
You can't say no to faces like that. (Also check out some of that spruce wood back there. Nice, nice.)
Time to get cracking on some crudely-made housing.
If you're lazy enough, arcadiasdskghdfgdfg wood will go with anything. And any spelling will look right too.
Only flowers around here seem to be yellow and red, so I guess orange is the new white. (Get it? Like orange is the new pink..? Oh whatever. I tried. You get it. I only have orange.)
Honestly, I'm starting to like this color scheme. Not too shabby. I mean, nothing compared to a dirt shack, of course.
I call this my "Sunset Home"! There may not be any colored light yet, but hey, this is a pretty good trick of the eye.
Hey, what's that? A housewarming party? BRING YOUR FRIENDS!
Wait, I wasn't--
Hold on--
............... ... .. . well
And they didn't even bring a gift, talk about manners.
3. WHAT (11/12/13) haha do you get it it's 11 12 13
Get down from there sand, you're drunk.
Get back up here, tree. That hole is no place for you.
Grass??? Coal?? Gravel?
At least this sugarcane is in the correct habitat. Look at it, peacefully gazing at the vast ocean.
Being the conservationist I am, I safety relocated exhibit A to this natural pond on my plateau, complete with a complementary chicken.
Not to mention, I created a safe area for my wheat to graze. Note the pumpkins I've integrated into their habitat in the second picture.
And on the topic of pens, I thought I might as well keep some animals away from those pesky creepers.
But oH MY GOD WHY ARE THERE SO MANY OF YOU
I cannot be more grateful that minecraft hasn't yet implemented tramplings.
But I'm being led to think that the aforementioned floating chicken was more of the duck variety. I decided to create the following masterpiece to commemorate the emotion.
Melancholy Chicken (Duck)Digital media2013
To make an indoor pond (spoiler: I'm not actually making that for the duck. He's kind of a jerk.) I figured I'd need some more mining.
Wait what
wHAT???
Wait that's not all.
Brace yourselves for basically the most amazing picture ever.
.........
(drumroll)
...........
There is literally NO better way to close an update than with lava, underground grass, and an EXTREME BAT.
I bid you all adieu.
3.5 Housekeeping? Housekeeping. (11/12/13)
Alright, so I thought to add little details into a mini-snack-follow-up update before getting to some fun exploring.
I got some more stuff from the last mining expedition.
And check out the "awsm howes" so far. Look how tiny it is. It must be for ants.
At least I have my duck(?) family. They're more of 'lap ducks', actually. They chill on my bed.
Ok so maybe they just sit there and stare at me. No big deal.
Hey whoa what's that big hole?
I'll give you a hint: it rhymes with 'mortgage loom'.
If you guessed 'shortage broom', then you win your very own chicken!
... no, wait, I think I messed that up...
Nevertheless, broom rhymes with cake so here we go.
Stay tuned to see me put the cake down and never eat it. And do some exploring. Who knew a world of blocks could have so many thrilling plot twists!
4. Nice to SEA You // part 1 (11/14/13)
Now that I've got some iron and orange in my life, it's time to go and explore this map.
... ok maybe I forgot to screenshoot the unexplored map, but I was too busy LIVING IN THE FAST LANE.
But the first thing any stylish Steve like mine needs is flowers.
Lucky my savanna is right next to this rad flower forest, populated by magical floating sheep. Look at that guy go. Go, sheep, go. We're rooting for you.
And speaking of sheep, look at these ridiculous guys.
That's right folks, they spawned on top of that hut. Realizing their mistakes, they quickly jumped down, hoping I hadn't noticed.
(Spoiler: I did.)
Exhibit A: Shameless bovine.
Exhibit B: Shameless sugarcane, growing well over the 3-block law. Shame on you.
Exhibit C: Shameless lava. Doesn't even care where it spawns. I saw about 3 sheep fall in while I was exploring the area.
Well I'm out of exhibits, but check out this valley. And a desert. (Dessert? Who knows.)
Not to mention this tiny vaguely poisonous-looking mushroom just sitting there, like it totally belongs right next to the desert.
And since with great power (read: posting things on the internet) comes great responsibility, I've taken it in my hands to educate the world on mushrooms.
You can't really eat these.
And this is a real fly agaric. Don't eat it, it's hella poisonous.
Entertaining AND educational? And they said only Bill Nye could do it!
But no matter how cool mushrooms are, the matter at hand is exploring the vast cube world.
Alright, no matter how vast minecraft is, that village still only has two houses. On a tiny island. Very vast.
I figured I could do something with it, so I trapped those dumb squidwards indoors, lest they run right into a zombie.
But wait! What's the red stuff on the map?
Is it a...... mesa?
Answer: NO.
Just a bunch of grassless dirt.
But wait! There's more!
For a one-time payment of falling off that cliff, you get to see some awesome-looking floating islands!
And for another payment of cheating, you can fly up and take a look at them close up!
If that's not cool generation, then I don't know what is!
And since there's no better place to watch the square in the sky set, enjoy this lovely view.
No time better to return to base than the morning.
Or... not.
I guess my boat was TOO EXTREME for the game, and I was swimming before everything was generating. Had to jump into creative since I was getting stuck in the un-generated corners.
Well I got home eventually, at least. My sweet neighbors were kind enough to greet me upon my return.
Aww thank you guys!
4.5 I SHEEP You There! // part 2 (11/14/13)
As you may have guessed, this is ANOTHER exploration continuation. I didn't want to jam all these images into the previous one, save your computers some work.
Welp without delay, lets check out all this sheep edition of exploring.
Two sheep.
Four sheep.
Gray sheep.
White sheep.
...
Now go count the four brown sheep in the second picture. Also, don't forget to be impressed.
Now what was I searching for, exactly?
That's right, WOLVES!
It shouldn't be too hard, right? I mean, they live in forests, and I've got all this to search:
Well...
Chickens...
Parkour cows...
X-TREME pig...
Whatever is going on here...
Spoopy pumpkins...
Giant table...
This...
And that...
Took a detour in a sunflower field, and then I found...
... oh....
If you're lazy, you can see all the images right here. (Though I warn you, they're not in the same order.)

I would prefer green dragons. I feel that's their traditional colour. Some other big monster would be even better. How about giants? -

RickCrafter posted a message on BiomesAs far as I know, once you're playing 1.7, any new chunks generated will generate using the new terrain's specifications. So you should be okay: be warned though, when the engines conflict you get really weird terrain around the edges of where you've already mapped as it gets into new terrain. Like, an ocean will make a clean right-angle cut into a forest biome, you might get really, really steep edges (as in, a mountain will just get cut off), etc. etc.Posted in: Survival Mode
So you should be fine once you go out a ways. -

NightMaph posted a message on Went back to beta using the launcher and I...Posted in: DiscussionI've been around since Alpha and I have to say my favorite is 1.7.2
What I miss about Alpha is the newness that the game had. Just starting out and having to learn everything was so fun. Not to say that it's not fun now, but after 3 years it's a different kind of fun.
I agree! -

Ebins posted a message on Are Fan-Boys Taking Over Minecraft?I'm 38 and have played since alpha. I've been running a server for a year and a half specifically for my kids and their friends. A lot of them have been "kids." They have a great time and are very creative even though its a survival world. I think minecraft is a great way for them to learn to work together and "think" things through. So in my opinion, the more kids the better.Posted in: Discussion -

I'm not a big time YT'er by any means but here are a couple of suggestions that might help.
1) Pick something that you enjoy and then commit to that series. Once you have three different series going on, it's just confusing.
2) Make sure you have excellent audio quality. Bad audio will turn people off really quick.
3) Try to make every second of the video count. I'm having trouble with audience retention as people will fast forward parts of videos. So try to stay on topic and then try to make the most of every second. For example talking to the start screen for 3 minutes is kind of a waste of time. You can do the talking about the series while punching wood or something.
4) Have fun! It's unlikely that you'll ever make money or be a huge internet sensation, but once you start making videos you'll meet other people in the community and it can be a lot of fun.

After that, go kill the Wither
After that, go clear a water temple

That would look impressive.
