    This thread is long dead if this was acceptable.
    I think the only (maybe other) way to update the water block is by placing a block next to it.
    So if you place barriers around it, will it only be a decoration?

    Yeah, can't be a solution, right?

    Yeah, you're right. The reason I needed to know if this was possible is because my friend wanted me to do this on his roller coaster that he made. He has a theme park of over 100 coasters, and they're all really big and cool, but the extra commands would make it cooler.

    So the water would be right next to the track, which means that I can't place the barrier block right on the same block that the track needs to go, and even if I didn't put a barrier there, the water would just wash the track away each time the fountain went up.

    I don't think there is a way to resolve this issue about water that doesn't update, but I came up with a solution with about 60 commands per fountain.

    Once again, thanks for trying to help!

    try summoning invisible armor stand on the place where the water should b.

    /summon minecraft:armor_stand ~ ~ ~ {CustomName:water,NoGravity:1,Invulnerable:1,Invisible:1}

    and then just run these cmds in repeating command blocks on auto:1

    /execute @e[type=armor_stand,name=water] ~ ~ ~ setblock ~ ~ ~ minecraft:water

    /execute @e[type=armor_stand,name=water] ~ ~ ~ detect ~1 ~ ~ minecraft:water 0 /setblock ~1 ~ ~ minecraft:air

    /execute @e[type=armor_stand,name=water] ~ ~ ~ detect ~1 ~ ~1 minecraft:water 0 /setblock ~1 ~ ~1 minecraft:air

    /execute @e[type=armor_stand,name=water] ~ ~ ~ detect ~ ~ ~1 minecraft:water 0 /setblock ~ ~ ~1 minecraft:air

    /execute @e[type=armor_stand,name=water] ~ ~ ~ detect ~-1 ~ ~1 minecraft:water 0 /setblock ~-1 ~ ~1 minecraft:air

    /execute @e[type=armor_stand,name=water] ~ ~ ~ detect ~-1 ~ ~ minecraft:water 0 /setblock ~-1 ~ ~ minecraft:air

    /execute @e[type=armor_stand,name=water] ~ ~ ~ detect ~-1 ~ ~-1 minecraft:water 0 /setblock ~-1 ~ ~-1 minecraft:air

    /execute @e[type=armor_stand,name=water] ~ ~ ~ detect ~ ~ ~-1 minecraft:water 0 /setblock ~ ~ ~-1 minecraft:air

    /execute @e[type=armor_stand,name=water] ~ ~ ~ detect ~1 ~ ~-1 minecraft:water 0 /setblock ~1 ~ ~-1 minecraft:air

    kindof non updating but works

    Well with that method, I could have just used /fill or /setblock, but I already know how to use those. Thanks for trying to help, anyway, though!

    Not rly misunderstanding, it's a bug that Mojang is too lazy to fix atm (lol).
    In fact, you need to tell us where the water is used.
    If it's just a specific spot in somewhere (I guess), simply run command blocks under the block under the water source.
    Not by keep setting the specific spot to water, but /fill the spaces around it.

    It's like
    /fill ~1 ~5 ~1 ~-1 ~5 ~1 air 0 replace water

    This will fill 1 side out of 4 of the water source.
    (Lags, but works.)

    Also, help me try this command to see if it works:
    /fill ~ ~1 ~ ~ ~1 ~ water 6 replace water

    I don't have time testing this online.

    Alright, thanks for trying to help. /fill won't cut it, though. I already know how to use that, but I wanted it to be a smooth motion.

    Thanks anyway!

    Can a falling_bock be water?

    /summon falling_block x y z {Block:water,Time:1,NoGravity:1,CustomName:"water"}

    Then you will have to constantly update the falling block because otherwise it will turn int an item after a wihile.

    /entitydata @e[type=falling_block,name=water] {Time:1}

    Thanks for trying to help, but I didn't explain the actual problem. Sorry! The problem was that the water couldn't be seen while in motion. It was visible once it landed, but while in motion, you could only see the shadow of the block.

    Sorry for the misunderstanding!

    Thanks!

    Hey,

    My friends always resort to me whenever they need help with redstone or command things, but the thing is, I'm really not that good. I know the simplest formats of all the commands, but not things that are more advanced. If you want to see what my skill with commands is, check out my Adventure Map, Mixed Parkour! That shows just about how good I am with commands.

    What I need to know is this: Is it possible to use /setblock or /summon to summon water that does not update, even when another block is placed next to it? If so, please help!

    Thanks!

    So I've had some people who played the map, and there was a glitch with the command blocks, and it didn't teleport them to the starting point when they first joined. Everyone else who told me about it, though, said that it worked fine. So if you keep falling into the void and dying when you first spawn in, just do /tp @p 0 50 0

    That will teleport you to the starting point, and set your spawnpoint! Sorry about that error! It was my first map!

    Also, anyone who played it, I would like to know if you enjoyed it, or even if you didn't, give tips on how I can improve my mapmaking skills! Even replying with something like, "u suck. ur map wuz relly bad lol", would help, if you at least gave some info on how I could improve.

    So if you have a minecraft forums account, and you played the map, please give feedback!

    Thanks!

    Hello!

    I made an Adventure Map, so I am posting the link so you can download and play it! This is my first map I've made, but it turned out good. It's mostly parkour, but it also has a little bit of find the button, dropper, redstone, and a maze. It is Singleplayer or Multiplayer compatible.

    Like I said, this is my first map, so if this doesn't work, or there are some glitches in the map, I apologize in advance! If this does work, however, I hope that you enjoy it!

    Click this link:

    NOTE: This map was made in 1.12

    P.S. If you like the map, please let me know, so I can make more!

    (Edit:) MAP UPDATED! I finally updated the map to work in 1.13+! You can download it via the link below!
