I'm not asserting Beta/Alpha was better, I'm not that nostalgic. ;) I suppose I was thinking more of creative mode when I say simple, not Survival. I'll edit my post, thanks for setting me straight. :D

Yeah, more blocks and mobs would always be nice. At least we got purpur and the 2 new command blocks for mapmakers. And shulkers.

The problem is that the shield is way too op, and no more super gapples. R.I.P. Factions.

Assuming gapples = golden apples; Super gapples were 400% more OP than shields. And they involve thinking, whereas golden apples just flooded you with power.

Shields only protect from the front, and their durability isn't very high.
What super grapples? They were mere stunlocking which was so easily done it wasn't fun at all.

    Then, why are they abandoned?

Let's explore that as we explore MC's hidden lore: http://www.minecraftforum.net/forums/minecraft-discussion/discussion/2547511-the-story-behind-minecraft

But this thread isn't about that, so let's not....post that anymore.

    Hydraheads-

A hydra is a multi-headed dragon. The exact number of heads is often disputed, but that doesn't really matter because once you cut off one of its heads two grow back in its place. It is very symbolic, imo. It is to say when life tries to hack and slash me down, I am able to regrow the defeated head in a better more clean way and spawn a new head to provide proper countermeasures against life's next attack. The only way to defeat a hydra is burning its heads to the ground. In other words, although my resolve cannot be shattered, something like a meteor can destroy my shell (obviously).

Actually I quite like variety with such things, it's just Mojang hasn't actually given us much "this or that, not both" gameplay. Since the off-hand slot is just an easy button for something you could do in 1.8 which was changing what hotbar slot you were using. I've even made part of a suggestion dedicated to different weaponry that has varied uses. But the highest tier shouldn't be shadowed by lower tiers, otherwise what's the point of calling it a higher tier? Higher tier = MUCH more durability, can get more use out of its enchants, can be situationally better than other tiers

So you're saying that stone axes and wooden shields SHOULD be stronger then diamond? Diamond already does have a balance. Guess what? It's incredible rarity! (and the fact that it's non-renewable) You can't just punch a tree and smelt some iron for a suit of diamond armour like you can with shields. And even if you say "armour is passive and blocks damage everywhere" remember that you can use a shield WITH armour on. So instead of "Diamond beats all" it's "Diamond and low ping shields beats all" so nothing really has changed apart from the ease to get diamond-tier defense.

Fairness and strategy, is all 1.9 has done. So it's fair that laggy people are worse off then before?

If nothing really changed with diamond tier, why are you saying would diamond be worse? Laggy people aren't worse. If the server is causing the lag, everyone gets it. If you are lagging client side, you have a weak computer. Don't say this is biased because if I have a Windows 1 computer and it plays slowly, I'm not going to hound Mojang to add support for a largely unused device. And I'm pretty sure even if you are laggy attacking from behind and using strategy won't be too different. And you do realize you get a shield also, not just them....

Actually it's made it easier in some cases. if you do crits with a diamond sword against diamond armour in 1.8, you do 6 / 5 = 1.2 hearts every 0.5 seconds, or 2.4 DPS. With 1.9, you do 5 hearts, which reduces diamond armour's 66% reduction to 49.5%. Slightly above 2.5 hearts get through every 0.6 seconds, or 4 DPS. If you have a better mouse you can hit them a few times more pre-1.9. That fair? I'd say 1.9 favors everyone being on an equal playing field.

Here's the thing though, teaming up already was easier. You could already beat up someone as a team if you had the same skill levels as your opponent, that's where skill came in! The ability to actually fight people with advantages because the advantages were more restricted. 1.9 just makes teaming unnecessarily powerful and so skill is less of a help. (Also in a previous post, I've created a scenario where 2 people with stone axes fought 1 player with a diamond sword and diamond armour. At the end, even though 1 stone axe guy died, the diamond armour person lost.)

Make up your mind. You argued that 4 sword guys killing one normal guy has become too easy. If situationally it varies now, then there is no problem with that.

    @9314265068

You are in favor of higher tier = better weapons, something which most minecrafters disagree with. We prefer a fundamental balance between weapons, not diamond beats all. Fairness and strategy, is all 1.9 has done. It has made it harder to stomp your opponents. Which was a HUGE issue before. Teaming up and group effort IS easier, yes. But that's because power in numbers is supposed to be a major factor in battles.

    Wow! Wow! Wow!
First, I have terrible ping (its lowest has been 2-3 hundred) and also my wifi cuts-out nearly everyday, but I still manage to beat others!
Seacond, I don't wan't to learn new strategies!,
Third, you can still hit people even if the cooldown hasn't ended (It will do nearly no damage though) so a group of people could block someone in a corner and kill them easier that if it was on 1.8

    Wow wow wow wowwwwweeeeeeee!
That bold statement speaks for itself. I shouldn't even have to give my reasoning to counter that one. Old is gold, is what you're saying. You aren't willing to learn to think. PVP was better as a mindless spam game. Congratulations. Least thought provoking comment of the day.

It makes it more fair for whom?Everyone.

It's unfair to players with low FPS because missing matters more.No. Spam clicked favored those with high FPS. So it's not much of a change. Missing mattering more keeps you engaged, and pvp is no longer thoughtless.
It's unfair to high ping players because of the super powerful time-based shield.People with lag never won as it was... How do you expect Mojang to fix this? I would venture as to say people with lag spikes have more of an advantage because enemies can't kill them on the spot.
It's unfair to people who suck at fighting in PvE because of massive player nerfs. People already die on easy to SPIDERS! I've seen it happen!Yeah. People die all sorts of ways. Are you insinuating spiders should never kill you and be pushover mobs? Also, you can compensate for lag by learining new strategies now.
It's more unfair to solo players because teams of players using axes can massively out-damage them.No. Axes have insane delay between attacks and thus are only good for finishing blows which pierce shields.

The only thing I find fair about most of it is the fact it makes it unfair to everyone with a disadvantage, so if it's nothing but disadvantaged people then I find it "Fair".This is verifyably false.

I nearly fainted when I saw that there was no more crafting super golden apples. Well, this may be the last post I ever make on minecraft forum, because Microsoft and Mojang just crossed the line. I thought minecraft was going down when I saw the first snapshot, but this is just a nose dive. Considering deleting it from my computer right now.

Go ahead. I don't want to hear these "100% of 1.9 is bad" rants anymore. Super golden apples were almost uncraftable as it was. Now they are actually obtainable. And less OP.

    Here's the problem:

    You get the legit players

You got the people who don't care if they are legit or not

    The non-legits win

People had no reason to hate for any version below 1.8. 1.8 Was the beginning of the end tho......... :(

Here is the updates for ya:

1.4 and below- SWEET A NEW UPDATE!

1.5- O YA! THIS IS EPIC!

    1.6- WELL, HORSES ARE AWESOME!

1.7- STAINED GLASS! WHO REALLY CARES, BUT WOO! A NEW UPDATE

1.8- banners? Who cares? lag beacons :( The game is still amazing tho!

1.9- IS MICROSOFT TRYING TO KILL MINECRAFT?!?!?!?!??!?!?!??!?!?!?! THE PVP NERF UPDATE?!?!?!?!? NOTCH COME BACK!!!!!!!!!!! PLS!!!!!!

    :(

Looking into MW3 for my mac atm. Hopefully I can find it cheap. Wish me luck!

I doubt half of you have actually played and tested out the snapshots. That's the sad part about this thread.

Who in here hasn't played it? And the argument can be made about both sides. Microsoft hasn't touched Minecraft. Plus, pvp wasn't nerfed at all, it was fixed. No more spam clicks (plus the strength bar fills up almost the same time as the invincibilty frames), timing oriented, more reasons to have a bow (which I rarely used to lose), strategizing, teamwork, sword sweeps, etc. I would go as far as to say old PVP was broken, and everyone wanted Mojang to fix it.

edit: You forgot about potion arrows.
