Sadly, only about 25/100 of us hate it right now, and after the update everyone will be like "Nobody ever saw this coming!" And we will be like screenshotting our posts from here. The fact is, the game has been overrun by noobs who have the reflexes of a dead snail over the years slowly. People don't like things they aren't good at. True fact.
Have you not heard of invincibility frames? These lasted .5 seconds. 1.9 timers last .6 seconds. Only Superman could perform an action in .1 second. The hit timer isn't that dramatic of a change, honestly.
Edit: F7ared showed off his/her internet knowledge and proved that there is a bit of a learning curve in 1.9 PvP. However, it's not an "OMG it's super hard to learn PvP is runied!!!!11111" type learning curve.
(off topic, but I'm not good at Japanese, yet I still enjoy learning it. One of my friends sucks at MInecraft Survival Mode, yet he enjoys it. That's not exactly a true fact)

I can't search that deep for a link, but I remember in great detail...To summarize Minecon:
"PVP is bland right now. Have you considered adding magic?"
"Yeah, we're planning on fixing that. I noticed on servers, PVP is basically just whoever clicks one button the fastest wins. We are hoping to improve Minecraft's current combat system in later updates. Even if not necessarily with magic, we will certainly diversify our current system and maybe add more weapon types."

I'll search for one. It was said during Minecon. 2014 I think. Maybe 013.

Sorry if this comment I am about to make may or may not be out of context but;
1.9 is officially called the combat update
Mojang stated shortly before starting 1.9 developement they wanted to fix the blandness of PVP, pointing out its spam click nature. Some of the additions are actual only applicable to PVP, such as the mundane and very hard to obtain tipped arrows.
The intention of the update was literally to fix PVP, so whoever asserts this fundamental fact which was canonly confirmed is in no position to call people blind. Yes, it effects PVE, PVM, PVW (wumbo), etc. but it was intentionally tailored to work in any field of combat.
Lastly, PVP is not overrated or the death of minecraft. Kit PVP can especially be very creative, using scoreboards and plugins to evolve the game in interesting ways.
As badrenup pointed out, the lack of AI in PVP means you will be facing different people with different strategies, so it keeps things interesting. Can't remember who posted pvp is not in the description of the game. But there's a reason for that; minecraft is not about PVP. It's about......(drum role)........................ABSOLUTELY NOTHING! Minecraft is a game that was founded on creativity. So you can do whatever you want with it. In any way you want.
We can all take some valuable things from this thread. Don't tell people how to play the game. And don't assert opinion as fact. And don't say something ruined minecraft.
Microsoft didn't kill Minecraft. PVP didn't kill Minecraft. Minecraft didn't kill Minecraft. Youtube didn't kill Minecraft. 1.9 didn't kill Minecraft. WE didn't kill Minecraft. Last time I checked its main page (today), Minecraft is still gaining new players at a consistent rate. New players play for a minimum of what, a year? Two years? Minecraft is still the most popular thing on youtube. Microsoft has only done good things and hasn't touched the code. 1.9 is liked by the majority.
So, I conclude, Minecraft is very much alive and all of its aspects (pvp) included are the reason it is.

Ya know, the last post should be neutral. Sorry if my original one was not. xD
Well, thank you for taking the initiative. I think we should probably kill this thread now.

There, everyone happy? Don't answer that. It was rhetorical.
And we should kill this discussion until 1.9 is released. K? (Also rhetorical)

Unfortunately, yes.
At least it is no longer a primitive flame war though.
And honestly, I'd prefer the title of this thread to be "Why some are hating 1.9"
As for a release date, the sooner the better IMO because this thread will die once people start playing it. I will leave the reason as ambiguous. Because it's obvious. XD
Preferably, we can all just stop posting now. We've said everything there is to say. I have no right to restrict peoples' posts, but this is just a suggestion.

Welcome to the forums! XD
This isn't an argument. We are merely discussing our views. Such is the purpose of the forums. Changes won't be made to the system if we don't sound our voice; support for the system only exists when people actually support the system. You were never (and still aren't) obligated to respond to everything or anything posted. As I have stated I see it as more of an open discussion which helps the developement of the game, which is the reason I came to the forums in the first place. And, quite frankly, the reason they were ever created.
If you are hyped like I am, the best way to follow developement is on Minecraft wiki's snapshot page. There, you will learn every thing being developed as soon as it's developed. Or you can go to the 1.9 page where you can see a master list of changes. I recommend that at this point. Hope this helped.
In fact, use this link: http://minecraft.gamepedia.com/1.9

Vice versa. Statistics have shown 85-90% of players prefer the changes made in 1.9 to the old ones. Don't post something that just isn't true. Also, as for the microsftand Notch thing, I hope that was a joke. I think it was. I hope.

Thank you. This I agree with. Golden apples were borderline impossible to craft and super OP to the point were you could stomp enemies 2 tiers above you gear wise. Now they are viable.
Also, besides not touching the code, Microsoft is neither behind story mode nor the upcoming movie. They have literally done nothing other than windows 10 edition which allows players who don't have mobile devices to play with their friends who only have just that. And the impressive hololens.
Sounds like old is gold to me. I swear, if I hear alpha/beta versions were better ONE more time.....

The golden apples and super are uncraftable, but now can BOTH be found in dungeons. So they haven't been removed, don't worry.

It's not cheating. It's a part of the game. Although some people prefer not to use it, I feel a major part of the game would be lost if we were limited to maps and compasses alone.

1. Mods can change game mechanics. A lot. Just look at iChun and survival overhaul mods.
2. The game as it stands needs more mobs. Especially ambiance/sea/boss mobs. The statement that it lacks creativity is borderline insulting to the entire community. We all want more mobs, and it's almost calling shulkers, guardians, withers, and blazes uncreative.
3. Blocks are blocks. They are neither uncreative nor creative. As long as they are well balanced, new blocks can only help because they are building materials and minecraft is a game about building.
4. You are saying new mechanics only? This whole thread is full of people who hate change and would be willing to rage over any new mechanic. Perhaps reworking old mechanics before adding new ones would be optimal. Although I also agree a few new ones would still be nice as well every once in a while.
