You could never fix items with a crafting bench...I'm pretty sure of that.

Even if that's so (and I don't remember) you could in your inventory 2x2 grid until this newest snapshot anyway. That's a fairly key change IMO that has been needed but I find it odd it wasn't mentioned in the notes!

Edit: Also all of my items frames have smoke coming out of them in the upper left and lower right corners - is anyone else getting that?

    Not mentioned in the notes:

You can no longer place two similar items into your crafting grid or a crafting table and "combine" them to repair them. So you can no longer put two half used picks in your 2x2 grid and get a full (or nearly full) pickaxe in return. You now MUST use the anvil and spend XP to combine items in this fashion - even those without enchantments.

I'd almost be inclined to label 1.8 the Mapmaker's Update.

    I would agree with that.

Odd. In Snapshot B I don't have any farmers or fletchers in the closest village anymore. Only Librarians and Leather armor people now. There were like 3 farmers and 3 fletchers before the update. I wonder if they took them out to work on the AI more or something? Can anyone confirm something like this happening to them?

B version of the current snapshot is out now

Edit: it fixes the issues with the item frames only showing part of blocks BUT it also pops all the items frames and what they were holding off your walls too haha. Just be prepared for this :D

You DO still need the 30 levels-they just aren't all spent.

Well of course but if you are even mildly competent you won't ever need to get a full 30 levels again since you won't die and lose them all - which makes going from 27 - 30 negligable and IMO makes the whole new system basically pointless and you are arrive at a place of basically unlimited enchanting very quickly. It just seems so.... EASY now I guess is what I'm trying to say.

    It's intended.

Unfortunately you can't just pay the missing gold/lapis by sacrificing all the levels.

So... XP is now completely irrelevant then since you can get 3 levels (27 - 30) back in a very, VERY short amount of time why bother even charging anything at this point? Now I'm "limited" by lapis I guess? But that's silly since with a fortune pick axe after you find about 3 blocks of lapis you aren't running out any time soon (You can get what? 30 something from one block with fortune 3?).

I find this to be a really weird change and I don't really know why it would be implemented in this fashion - especially now that repairing is also super cheap to do! So far this is the change in the snapshot that leaves me scratching my head and not understanding it.

If you enchant something at level 30 (now takes 3 Lapis also to do) it's broken. Once your item is enchanted you will still have 27 levels of experience leftover. You still need to hit level 30 to trigger the option on the enchanting table but it doesn't use all your XP to actually put an enchantment on an item.

I'm assuming this is a bug.

I still think that one of the best ways to live early on is reliant upon fishing - getting string is the tricky part though! Thanks for the map update Sly I'll have to try it out (hopefully in a MP fashion but we'll see).

Well if you guys want to see the Mesa, a savannah, a nearby desert and a nearby village check out seed 3199162198611654507.

Also it's saying 1.7.1 so is 1.7 "officially" out now? If so I need to go poke my server host about not having the new jar up and ready to go...

Just saw this and it looks nice - the textures on the wood are especially really well done! I'm not sure I'm sold on the opacity for stained glass but I'm also not sure how much control you have over that working with what Mojang gave you (a hollow block basically). Still though it looks great!

Strange, those secret changes. The snapshots are supposed to be public test versions, but it seems that Mojang is now treating them a little bit like official updates. And there are still no new saplings and or wood logs and leaves for the new trees, so I hope that they will still implement them in one of the next snapshots.

Well since Jeb has been the one mostly doing the Biome stuff and he's been out of town that isn't too surprising...
