I'm not attempting to run Minecraft from the .jar. I wasn't sure where this belonged so I just put it in this subforum. Minecraft itself works fine. My problem is when I try to run something like MCSkinEdit, or Technic Launcher. Normally I would use the Technic Launcher exe but I'm one of the few people that get the error "cannot find java directory," so I have to run it from the .jar, which I can't do because my java is screwed up.

A while ago, i accidentally set to run .jar files in WinRAR by default, and when reverting back to java, I used the wrong java application, I did this several times instead of googling the correct application, which is javaw.exe. Now, when I attempt to set this as the default program, all I get is an error telling me that java can't find the main class of whatever I am trying to run. I have tried endless times to get this working, google has been used, but I simply cannot find anything. I have completely uninstalled and reinstalled java and minecraft countless times. I simply cannot do anything which requires me to run a .jar file.

I am on Windows 7, with Java Version 7 Update 5.

Please help me, I have grown desperate.

That's dumb that you can only win the console through the sweepstakes. If I want a Minecraft console, then SHUT UP AND TAKE MY MONEY! I, for one, think that both Microsoft and Mojang would both make much more money selling the Minecraft-themed console in retail than just giving out the one console.

For everyone saying they should be tamable:

    No.
    They should not.
Do you think, that if you encountered a dragon, he'd say "I'd better give him a chance to tame me."
    No. He'd say "MMMM, DINNER!"
Every time someone says "We should be able to tame them hurr durr" or "Make them flyable herp derp" I want to tear out their stomach.

I realise. But that isn't the problem- The problem is that now I messed up and I can't run any programs that ARE .jars. I can play Minecraft fine, in fact I have it running in the background... But I'm trying to convert this world that I'm playing into a creative world and the program is a java program, which I can't run.

edit: quick addition- I'm running 64bit windows 7 and my java is up to date.

This doesn't pertain to Minecraft in particular, but I still need help with it. I ran minecraft.jar in WinRAR, and it set it as the default program, which is fine. However, when I set it back to default run with Java, i clicked java rather than javaw, and now whenever I use the "run with" option, it won't allow me to run with javaw, even if I click "browse" and manually select it. It will always just run with java. This is fine, I can still play minecraft, but it also won't allow me to run any program trhat is a .jar rather than an exe. Pictures below. Sorry, for links, it's the program I use for screencaps.

Which should I run with? javaw gives me error... : http://puu.sh/64Bd

Wanna know what I'd like to see in a stream? Notch doing something that would be remotely good for the well-being of the game. I mean, snowmen? Mushroom cows? What are you doing, Notch?

"Hmm...Make a snowman, or fix a ton of bugs?"
    "Snowman...bugfixes...snowman...bugfixes..."
    "Snowman."

    Voila.

Have fun, children. I'll stick with 1.8.
