Excellent thread OP. The tips you presented are exactly what I have learned in my longish building career in Minecraft (although I've never really experimented with leaves and your picture gave me an idea).
I have a request. I'm a big fan of the Gothic 1 and 2 and I recently stumbled upon a Fire mage skin on Skindex (search for "Fire Mage from gothic 2" if you want to see it, because I don't know how to link directly to it). I was wondering if you'd like to make the skins of the Water mage (http://ggothic.gothicz.net/npc/hlac/vatras.jpg) and Dark mage (http://republika.pl/blog_rn_4018209/5791345/tr/xardas.png) that look similarly to the one on Skindex. They could be recolors if you like, but if they had unique hair and facial marks they would be awesome.
By the way, Dark mage has a few skins on Skindex but none of them fit me.
Thanks up front.
I saw it in MC Pyramid adventure map, in one of the chambers. The encounter was tough because I had to fight it with a wooden sword (the chamber was pretty deep underground so my stone sword broke long before). I won only because I had a lot of bread in my quick-bar and a lot of space to maneuver.
I once found a natural pig spawner in a private SMP server. It was in a dungeon on a beach (thus covered in sand from the top), I actually found it by collecting sand. It spawned pigs when I put a staircase of dirt to spread the grass on the floor. The pigs it spawned were immortal (though still damaged the sword) and sometimes got stuck in walls so only black limbs were visible. They wouldn't suffocate or burn.
I know this was a natural spawner since I played there alone with my brother (we were playing in the same room, side by side all the time).
