posted a message on 1.9 combat system being toggleable
    Quote from C1ff»

A search in the Suggestions forum for "combat gamerule" lists ten different suggestions for this, and that's not even counting any suggestions which have nothing to do with gamerules. Over and over and over, the same points have been brought up:

    1. The point of the combat update was to add a new mechanic, why should Mojang add a feature to disable an intentional feature meant to balance combat?

    2. On this forum, you will find more people that like the update than people that dislike it.

    3. Game rules themselves are meant to assist in mapmaking, not for people to pick and choose what kind of game they want to play. Could you imagine if real world laws and jurisdictions worked like this?

    4. Games change over time, and should be allowed to do so. Holding onto old versions is pointless because players can play older versions of the game anyway and it means Mojang can't improve their game when broken mechanics that people use have to be kept in because people depend on them like their lives are at stake.

    5. This splits 1.9 haters and lovers even more, not even less.

    1. They added a difficulty slider, which disables hostile mobs. Why not add a toggle which disables new combat?

    2. So? The people that like it don't have to use it.

    3. That's a ridiculous comparison. Nobody's talking about real-world laws, you brought that up. That's a complete fallacy.

    4. Sure, games change over time. This is just another change. Saying "play another version" is ridiculous; people shouldn't have to ditch years of updates just to get one feature back.

    5. Who cares? People play the game however they want.

    Support.

Check server.properties and make sure world-name is set to the Overworld folder's name, and make sure the world folders are all in the same directory as server.properties.

Try temporarily disabling your OS's firewall just to troubleshoot. Remember to enable it after.

The only way to fix it is to use the old 64x32 skin format.

You can use a program called PNGGauntlet to losslessly compress your PNG files. Skins compress really well - I can usually get mine to just a couple KiB.

posted a message on Beta 1.7.3 Mods Archive

If you have an AMD graphics card, you've likely noticed how awful your clouds look. They're spikey, and you can see where the "chunks" of them stitch together. Sheep, trees, and snow also look really weird - as if their textures are fighting. This mod fixes that by increasing the bit depth from 8 to 24.

You might have seen another mod that fixes this, but I noticed something about it; it also changes a few other minor things that were totally unnecessary and unrelated to this bug. Another thing is that it used original code from the author of the mod. This mod is different in that it uses just three lines of code, all of which were taken directly from Beta 1.8.1's source (which doesn't have this bug). Because of this, this mod is irrefutably the best way to fix this bug - it only changes the code that's necessary, and it uses only code that Mojang wrote. This mod will never be updated, because it's perfect.

So that's about it. This is a must-have mod if you have this bug, and it does nothing but fix this bug, with absolutely zero side-effects.

Maybe it's a driver issue? Try installing an older driver from a few months ago, before you noticed it.

I also have an RX 480 and I've noticed terrible anti-aliasing in many games, not just Minecraft. I think it's likely due to the card or the drivers.
