Why are you favouring one launcher over another? You'll recommend and explain how to install MultiMC but not ML. If you can explain for one, why not explain for another?
WDL used to work fine all by itself with Magic Launcher. Just download the zip file and without doing anything to it just put it in any storage folder on your hard drive, point ML to where it is and it would load it in every time you started up Minecraft with ML. None of the current versions do that so I haven't updated to 1.8 (thankfully the server I play on can still accommodate 1.7.x players).
Is the ability to load with Magic Launcher without having to use Liteloader (whatever that is) or Forge or anything else like every version that Cubic made something that may return? Things were so much simpler then.
WDL used to be compatible with Magic Launcher, now it isn't. I tried zipping the contents of WDL 1.8 version but ML just says "No mods present". Has anyone managed to get a 1.8 or 1.8.1 version of WDL to work with ML?
I'm on 1.8.1 using Magic Launcher and I'm trying to get Optifine_1.8.1_HD_U_C7 to work but ML says there's 1 error and it won't work when I try and play a world generated in 1.8.1. I'm using no other mods and the versions match up but it just won't work.
The slime chunks you are seeing are the chunks native to the blank flat world that WDL builds on and are unrelated to the server slime chunks. To find slime chunks on a server you are going to have to find them the hard way - wander around at Y<40 until you find a slime. Kill it, then use F3 to find the chunk borders, block them off from each other and see which blocked off area another slime spawns in. Then you've found a slime chunk.
You can use single blocks with a one block gap in between so you can move between them but not even a one-block sized slime can move between the gaps. I have used this technique several times on different Skyblock servers and it works every time.
I have been using WDL on a server but no matter what I do I get a grid in my save of empty chunks with bed blocks in them. Does anyone know why this is? What's going on? It must be something the server is doing but what?
If I have a platform at y<40 that has redstone torches on it, will those torches affect the chances of getting a slime to spawn by taking up spawning space or can slimes spawn on a block whether there's a redstone torch on it or not?
When 1.8 comes in and we have the Spectate mode, how will WDL handle landscape viewed while spectating another player in another part of the map?
Will it download the other player's surroundings in the right place (where he is) or will it download those surroundings in the wrong place (where the spectating player is)?
Fly around or have MCEdit generate land so you have land as far as you can see from the bits you want to keep then select what you want to lose and use Delete Blocks.

Does anyone know how to use World Downloader for 1.12.2 with ML? I did ask on the WDL thread and was told to ask here.
