if you post your DxDiag summary, or identify your graphic card, someone may find a stable driver for you that you can install, maybe someone already has a link that you can use, but its not going to happen' if you cant tell what graphic card you have.
EDIT:
Asides of problem with driver, you could also evaluate how stable your operating system is, and/or if it contributes to the problem, aswell as physical problems with graphic card like overheating, too much dust on cooler, or fan on graphic card jammed ...
Spigot project is very much alive, and they are pushing out most newest releases of Spigot/bukkit ports, it is a bit confusing how to compile it for a beginer, but it exists, and it works well.
Let me try to understand this: If you live in new york, and your brother in los angeles, and i send you a letter you both recieve it?
Somethings realy wrong on your network if you both have same IP, or something is missing in your sentencess. Could you explain us how you managed to get same IP on your network?
You may need to find those files that come with Minecraft i cant remmember exact location of it should be /bin/lib or /bin/natives folder (make backup of files called something like libopenalXX.YYY) and delete them, so that minecraft uses the ones instaled instead. NOTE: make sure you have backed up those files in case it doesnt solve the issue.
Also there is possibility that you may be missing some files that Minecraft should download on startup, but because they are not available anymore for download it is not complete anymore. Ask your BF to copy libs and files from his MC folder (given that you mentioned it works for him), or at least compare it to make sure you have complete libs that should be there.
It is also quite possible that everything is working fine for people connecting to you over internet, we had that case lately, everything working fine, just client on the same machine as server cant connect using external IP, but can using "localhost". Try with someone.
I remmember having issues with no sound in beta minecraft versions, i used to fix it by instaling OpenAL libs, i am not sure what happened to that project lately but i could find this source of installer:
Download oalinst.zip archive, extract it and install it.
EDIT:
This part i can't remmember exactly, there should be ./bin or maybe it was ./lib folder where you have your old minecraft placed, and within it there are some files that are supposed to provide OpenAL functions, i cant remmember if you need to delete those ... was quite long time ago, can't remmember all details.

OpenGL: ~~ERROR~~ RuntimeException: No OpenGL context found in the current thread.
Driver issue, no question about it.

From 8 Gigs to 2 Gigs? And changing Intel i5 for AMD Athlon? I call that downgrade.
