Well, guess I'll pitch in, but I have a followup afterwards.

Servers you have run: I ran my own for a little while (skyworld ice world, lava world), and help with Reddit Public.
Approximate number of in-game hours as OP: No idea... quite a few (every day) since multiplayer hit...
Reference: *shrug* I play with a lot of folks, but I suppose you could ask about anyone on Reddit Public.
One thing about this list... either it needs to be tightly controlled, or some kind of back checking. It could go the same way the growing number of ops in a single server can. One person gets ops, then they op someone else, then that person does the same, etc. Eventually, we lose track of who is far down the branches, and problems start to pop up. I'm not saying we need to form some popularity contest of who's who, just make sure that any references trace back to known trustworthy folk.
The reason I say this is, I think this list would serve well as a "go to" point for people needing ops. As in, if someone just starting out wants to put up a server, but has no idea who to ask to help admin, they could check here instead of starting new topics or asking people they don't really know well. This could serve a double purpose, by having said people report if things went well, or not. So maybe we should also add contact info (email, IRC, whatever works), if that sounds like a passable idea.

He may have a RAM drive. It is just an absurd amount of RAM and is very expensive. It is meant to place your operating system on and other commonly used things so that your load times on those things are almost nothing. I don't know too much about these things so I may be wrong but read these before you tell me I am an idiot. Wikipedia RAM-Disk Wikipedia SSD
RAM disk is allocated RAM not a physical part. You would still need to allocate a portion of the max 32GB 99.9999% of people have to be a RAM disk. It's not a component.

I think the Mac Pro can go up to 32 gigs of ram, but I can't think of many operations that would require it.
3D rendering as done by Pixar. Some of their new stuff is sweet. Generally film applications or scientific calculation applications I can think of.
Once you’ve downloaded and installed the Java beta, there’s another not-terribly-obvious step you have to do. Go to /applications/utilities/java and run the Java Preferences app.
On the General tab, under Java Applet Runtime Settings, select “Java SE 6″. In Java Application Runtime Settings, re-arrange the list of Java versions so that Java SE 6 is the top item (click the image for a full-size picture of the proper settings).
Check your Java version. I guarantee it won't be Java 6 (version number 1.6).

bahhhh but you said "This would be any system with a quad core, or any Core 2 Duo". isn't that what i have?
if it doesnt work, do you think they will ever push an update for the non 64 bits?
Yeah, you might have to download the update manually from Apple. http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/a ... date1.html is what I have, claims it won't change default path... It's 2AM so I'm going to sleep, but if you still need help tomorrow I'll dig around some more.
I have a motorola sbg900, and I can't seem to enter the gateway page. Whatever I put, it just refreshes the page. I don't get a "password wrong" message or anything, but that may be the problem. Where can I find my username/password?
Do you have a system that is 64 bit? This would be any system with a quad core, or any Core 2 Duo. Core Duo macs are not eligible for this. The server software was compiled with Java 6 (1.6), and Apple only pushed the 6 update for Macs with 64 bit architecture. Sorry :sad.gif:
so ive seen this multiple times, but still cannot seem to find a solution for it. (by the way, everything is up to date on my osx leopard).
the readme in the server files says to type "java -cp minecraft-server.jar com.mojang.minecraft.server.MinecraftServer" into terminal (without quotes).
doing so gives me this: Exception in thread "main" java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: com/mojang/minecraft/server/MinecraftServer
ive tried multiple times doing things differently. for example, ive replaced java with the file directory TO java which didnt work either. ive dabbled in terminal before, but nothing serious, so im not too sure how to make this work. i've already looked in all of the other threads about this topic but nothing seems to work. any help will be appreciated. thank you.
Are you cd'd into the same directory as minecraft-server.jar? If not, cd into it... An ls should show all the files there, including minecraft-server.jar.
To expect a serious gameserver to use that technique seems a bit odd to me... I've only used Q3, UrT, Minecraft, Teamspeak, and Apache (LAMP) servers, but I can't recall any using this technique.
OK, so I've done everything the tutorial said and I'm getting that my UDP port is "not open or not reachable". I haven't done anything wrong like the tutorial says because I followed it to the letter. I've got a Sagem Sky router and the only part it failed on in the update was the very last step which is pressing a second "apply" button, assuming this because I couldn't see one to press in the HTML window it shows next to the list of commands it's doing. TCP port checking comes back fine and when looking at the current port exceptions, it's showing 25565 UDP as open.
I hope these little niggles get sorted for Minecraft's official release because you shouldn't really have to fiddle like this to get it to work.
I have our ban list up on redditpublic.com ... Use at your own risk. We have several legit players banned, but they almost always e-mail me and have themselves unbanned (I get about 1 ban appeal/day). We also clear our OP list, etc to clear for rogues.
Whether you use it or not depends if you trust the legitimacy of the server and its administrators.

Are you using / before the command?
What you type should look like this:
one say hi
one kick AlLnAtuRalX
