[SOLVED: I just had to wait it out. I tried to login the following day, and it worked.]
So, this is the weirdest thing:
I am able to login to Mojang, and can even download the Minecraft installer from it.
However, when I attempt to login on Minecraft.net, I get "We could not authenticate you against our servers. Please try to log out and back in again." (which I can't do since I can't log in in the first place).
When I try to login to the Minecraft launcher, it gives me a "could not connect to the server" error.
Things I've tried:
Reinstalling Minecraft
Flushing DNS
Restarting the router, the computer, the freaking universe
Deactivating Firewall
Deactivating anti-virus and other anti-malware software
Searching far and wide for answers in forums, Reddit, etc.
Other details:
I do not use "MCleaks" or any similar software (when I googled my problem, many people were asking about this crap and I don't even know what it is, so I thought I'd point this out just in case).
I'm not running Forge or any mod (not that it matters, since I can't even login to the website).
I tried to ping "authserver.mojang.com" but for some reason the requests always time out (could this be a regional problem?)
I'm in Brazil, and I have not attempted to run on a VPN yet. Should I? If so, any recommendations?
Oh hey, is this still alive? I'd like to join if so.

Were you redirected here by someone? If so, who?: I googled "socialist minecraft server" and this was the first result that popped up. I read the fisrt post of this topic and was pleased to see that the people running this thing actually understand socialism. I was expecting it to be an USSR meme joke or something, but I was pleasantly surprised.
Have you read the SCoM Constitution and agree to abide by it?: Yes and yes.
What do you consider yourself politically?: I consider myself an anarcho-syndicalist, but that doesn't mean I love Chomsky above all, though I do agree with him on most things. However, I also believe free-market socialism could work for non-essentials such as electronics and entertainment.
Explain, in short, the reason you are willing to join SCoM:I know that, as soon as I finish my studies, I'll probably have little option but to generate surplus value for the ruling classes in order to survive, so it'd be nice to play, if for a short period of time every other day, a game in which I can work to provide well being for mankind instead of profit for the bourgeoisie.
Give a brief summary of yourself:I'm a 28 year old Computer Science grad student at UFPR in Brazil. I don't consider myself very politically active outside of the Internet, in which I engage in rather heated debates against liberals and conservatives. I actively support and partake in leftist rallies in my city (and I barely escaped getting beat up by cops in an anti-austerity protest last year) but I'm not part of any political parties or groups, so I'm not actively involved with the organization of said rallies, but I still partake in them.

I waited it out, and when I tried to login today, it worked! So yeah, I just had to wait for some reason. Thanks

You mean directly on the Mojang website? I'll try and edit this comment with the results.
EDIT: Managed to reset my password, but I still cannot login to Minecraft.net nor the Minecraft launcher.
