Of course I'd help the villagers. Haven't killed even ONE of them, not for even that extra 1/50th a level up needed to get burned and get a level 7 enchantment for the price of 30 levels... Was getting a bit worried since they seem to be interacting, even staring at the Zombies and other creatures with no fear...

Side topic but IMO the level system should be a bit more generous than D&D, since with the latter you keep (well avoid the wights, etc.) your XP for permanent "Level UP" powers/abilities.

A DIY mob grinder in my home...

I tried it with the "Adventure Update" which is when I got seriously into playing it.
I quickly used RedStone to make these piston things that covered light blocks of glowstone in a nice big room that was therefore pitch black. Figure wait for the moans, etc. then flip the switch, turn it on, and go in with the diamond sword swinging, armor wearing. (The Xp didn't work then, but I wanted chicken feathers, miss those from Zombies)

----I usually like to settle in a pastoral/forest environment, but that's deadly at night, too many places for creepers to hide. Before I made pilgrimages to the desert region, spend a "Night" on an extended strenght potion hacking and slashing, but those villagers I'm tempted to slash...

But, due to the Light blocks themselves, who cares if they were blocked by stone, well about nothing spawned in that room, save the "Secret exit" I made that pushed into what would have been a "Dim" place if it were lit and since it was a 2block high 1block wide path it took 10 game days for random events to generate.

I'm excited by this, for I'd love to make a huge room where I can just "Turn on the lights" and get mega experience. With a strength potion, diamond armor, enchanted already... Heh, anyone read American Independent comics? I oughta make my character sprite to be "Mr Monster"...

For now I just "Isolate" monster generators when I find them... (except cave spider ones, kill them all!!!) Then I have this little "Monster Trip"... Even found one just a dive in the ocean beneath my house! But a F*cking Creeper generated in there and I didn't back out quick enough...

posted a message on Oceans (Why are you so big!)
Another thing, forgive the double-post, I had to run while typing my first one here:

I actually found a "Monster Generator" on the bottom of the ocean in the middle (well far away from any land, like 1/2 day's travel) Did a .png screenshot and used that F3 key to pinpoint it.

Didn't go in yet. Was waiting for that "Waterbreathing" potion but it seems no-go now... I dived down to see a closer look, losing 3 hearts on the way up. Under an open hole so a stream of water (without instantly filling it, love Minecraft physics!) and lighted within so either (more likely) part of an abandoned mineshaft or next to Lava without the water touching it. Didn't hear moans or clicks or shrieks, but had the cobblestone parts, couldn't see the generator yet.

No, it wasn't "Stone Bricks" but cobblestones. Still have NOT found a "Stronghold"... My last world had obscene amounts of "Abandoned mineshafts" (loved that, only felled two trees but had mountains of wood! Made mmmabye 10 rails and found thousands of rail blocks!) and lots of ravines. But even with a circular search from origin point based on the Wiki stuff, NO strongholds... I.E. No Bars, no stone bricks, no bookshelves...

In my 1.8 thing I was thrilled when I found an ocean large enough it'd take a day to get through, and built a home in an island in the center... Including digging a zig-zag staircase and exploring the "Mountains" beneath.

Served me well in this thing... The oceans are excessive, I even re-did the world since I started again 1.9/1.00 thing. Found a bit of land I'm exploring but made a base on an island for protection. Did another zig zag to the bottom. Found a bunch of caves I first missed, but then after 10 days FINALLY my first "Abandoned mineshaft" at 30 blocks above bedrock..

I'll say one cool thing, though. I can "Get Lost" in caverns beneath my island. When I'm full of goodies, instead of trying to find the way out and meeting the "Murphy's Law Skeleton Crew" I just dig or find a stream and swim UP. I break through about 50 blocks under the ocean surface, mmmaybe getting one or two ouchies on the way up. Then I'm in the middle of the ocean and can see my island base and swim to it, no coming up at night on land and the "Night Shift" waiting

I'm a real newbie, and a late adopter. But playing the ---- out of 1.8. Had 1.7 whatever during Indie Bundle then upgraded/registered for 1.8.

So I've mostly just done 2 worlds, and OK but solo. Haven't installed any mod packs yet, either. I love the game, fun to play, but I'm not sure about any multiple user servers. Read about all the "Griefer" stuff in the Wiki... Reminds me of "Drawball" frankly.

Personally, for an "Open" server If knew how to program it I'd do a "Territory Heart Stone". Simply put, only the user could move their placed blocks in a 1000 block spaces or whatever from the heart.

I've seen this in mods if I've read / watched the YouTube vids right, so you have to play through the dungeons / enemy castles before you can just hack through walls. Heh, for mineshafts I burrow UNDER and kill a mob generator from below... Then all that cool Green Cobblestone...coolest thing to me under Diamonds. (Double plus for Cave spiders, get killed by them too many times) Then if you made a personal home in an open server you could do cool redstone locks and intruder booby traps they couldn't just hack through. And of course for easy access one could make a home open from inside with a switch so they don't have to push the codes or jump over the "Death" tile every time on a supply run.
