That is pretty frustrating. The skin file itself should determine whether or not you have thin arms or not. Now we're going to have a buttload of noobs running around with broken skins because they didn't realize that skins have to be made with the certain arm model in mind.

    Or torch rather.

Might be a litttttle to big. XD

I don't think I would be able to stand having so many lamps all over my world, even if they were smaller.

I'm not entirely sure. It seems to detect whether or not some part of the skin is transparent and change to the model that's more likely to be fit the file. I'm not certain of the exact mechanism. Someone will probably figure it out at some point, but I have little interest in skins so long as my own is correct so I haven't pursued the matter. Sorry. :(

This doesn't seem to work. I've even tried giving myself the default Alex skin and I still don't get thin arms. The weirdest part is that my default is the thin armed model, but as soon as my custom skin loads, it gets the thicker arms.

Download a working texture pack for the version you're testing it on and look at how the files are structured. It can be either a zip file, or just a plain folder.

I just wanted to be steve as default. I turned off my internet to check

<---- My skin, I made it myself.

You can't change your default. The entire point of custom skins is so that you can change what you look like and not be default. The default is rarely seen if you have a custom skin, so why does it matter?

If you have Alex in Pre-2 it's because either you don't have a custom skin, or your custom skin was created for that model. If you want the default steve skin, just download it from Mojang's website (you can download it from the same screen you have to go to to change your skin) and then upload it as your custom skin.

And no, you can't just edit textures in the .jar file. Minecraft will just re-download the fresh jar to prevent tampering, thus eliminating your changes. You need to actually make a resource pack to make changes.

How does one "create a skin for that model"?

In what way is it determined whether the skin is for the thin armed model or the thick armed model?

Thanks everyone, i changed the textures to 32x, added more contrast, changed the style of the grass and tried to add more shadowing to the dirt.

I still see a lot of banding which makes it look jagged and not as nice in general.

Bigger leaves may work, I'll have to give it a try.

    I also am curious.

    Theres my ladder texture.

Would be close to the texture, it spans the full width and sticks out enough to make sense as to why you cant walk into the side of a labber. But then I thought of maybe the bars of wood could be resting on metal hooks or such.

Not sure if I'm on a good path or what. hmm. It's to look like the wood has notches and are slid over the metal bits locked into place..
    I dunno, thoughts?

I definitely like the one with "hooks." It looks a lot more legitimate and less like some kind of weights.

I might actually enter this... Haven't textured for minecraft in a while, but I like the idea.

The last one is probably the easiest. At least in high resolution.
The second one is a drawing of one of you guys, I bet :D

Nah, these were all just found randomly on the internet.

I've decided a name for my 16x WIP.

In Latin it means wizard (do not confuse with its other meaning...)

The cloud issue was resolved after switching to default 256x256 size. (lame)
And I was playing around in the new snapshot (I can finally get 60 fps even at 20 chunk render distance, yay) and forests in mountains are really tall.

That's actually just a more rare biome variant, birch forest M.

Did you even search for a solution?

How to work with the new system was figured out within a day or two of the snapshot coming out and described on their bug report system and on these forums.

For the area that's transparent on "Fancy" you just make it semi-transparent. 10% worked for me. When on "Fancy" it will be totally transparent, and when on "Fast" it will be totally opaque.

In your case you would need to simply make the fill color (or pattern) light enough so that it looked right with the second, darker "layer" of leaves.

I already know about the semi-transparent trick. I must not have explained myself correctly, because what you said still doesn't help.

This is what I previously had for my fast and fancy leaf textures:

I have areas that are different and do not become invisible, they are opaque in both fancy and fast versions of the texture. The second darkest shade is also darker in the fancy version.

I cannot change these between fast and fancy, I can only change the parts that become invisible.

With the new "one texture only for fancy and fast" snapshot, my fancy leaves now have to look like this:

Where they previously were able to look like this:

Much bigger fan of your grass and trees. Palette + interesting modeling design making for awesome foliage!

I'm not really sure what you're talking about. What trees? I haven't changed any trees. But yeah, the bushes were more of an experiment, I feel that they're too detailed to fit in with the test of the pack.
