    posted a message on Is steve the hero or the villain?

    "Steve" is just a skin, but that's not really what the question is asking. Steve's actions in most everyone's survival map are generally the same. The basics of the game require you to consume resources for your own survival, and defend yourself from monsters. I could write a pretty long paragraph going back and forth with logic and what not, but to save time and your attention, Steve is neither a hero or a villain. At his core, Steve is simply a survivor, alone in a world that tries to kill him every night of his life.

    Here's the paragraph if you are interested:

    As said above, Steve is, at his core and his intentions as a character, a survivor. That's it. He was meant to chop down trees, he was meant to kill animals for food, he was meant to find villages and the chests within were meant to help him. Now, that does sound like a total narcissist if you'd like it to, but hold on. While some refer to taking the items out of chests as "raiding" or "pillaging", that's not necessarily true. In Minecraft, villagers are a loose fitting support characters. They aid you by giving you items, and the items within a town are further support the town gives you. The trees within the world are absolutely necessary to survive. Killing animals is a source of food and other resources, exactly how it is in the real world.

    The one thing Minecraft does is give the player a ton of choice. You don't have to kill any animals for food, or even for leather. It's not impossible to defeat the Ender Dragon without enchantments, and there are enchantment books. Villages come across don't have to be raided, you could pass through peacefully and only trade things. You can even decide to settle one of the uninhabited houses and defend the town with your life if it comes to that. Or, you could instead break down every door but one and build a stone wall around the house and that night set it on fire, killing every villager. You could replant every sapling of every tree you chop down (which actually doubles your number of trees at the very least) or you could consume the land until it is barren (which is actually very detrimental to your survival). Minecraft is about free will, and free will is the ability to choose between right and wrong. Steve himself is just a survivor, the player is the villain or hero. But does Minecraft promote evil? I say no. Environmentally, you want to replant your trees. You cut them down by hand, so no pollution is made. If you don't replant trees, wood becomes scarce, and you need wood. To be on the move constantly is extremely hard to do because of limited carrying capacity (I've tried this). Finding a village and taking all of its resources? Villagers have no hunger bar. They do not use tools or weapons. They do not care if you take those things from them. If they did, there would be an animation for that :P You gain nothing from killing a villager, not even XP. If you kill a villager, all that happened in regards to survival is you wasted hits from your sword. Also, killing a villager or hitting a villager down to a certain HP level (Intent to Kill) will send the nearest Golem in town trying to kill you... I would say that killing of villagers is not promoted within the game. Killing animals in game is a way of survival. In most survival games I have played and have seen, Minecraft factory farms aren't very common because having the animals on top of each other isn't practical. Its a disadvantage to the player. Within Minecraft survival, moderation is a very big thing if you are playing the game seriously. No one wants 3,000 pieces of steak all at once; to do that, you need the storage, which can be used to hold 3,000 other and more useful items. You only take what you need in most cases, maybe a little more in case of emergencies. But overall, killing off all of your cows at once isn't going to be on your to do list of things you nee to survive.

    Steve is only a survivor, and the player playing him decides whether he is good or evil, a hero or a villain. And in my opinion, being good greatly out weighs being evil, and being a hero has better pay offs than being a villain.

    posted a message on What do I do with my first Redstone

    @VernM-- I love your style, that's how I play. It's the STRUGGLE that keeps things interesting, yes?

    @thepenmen22-- Everyone has that thing that brings them joy in Minecraft. Yours is making unnecessarily complicated things, just to have that challenge completed and under your belt. And there's nothing wrong with that. Some of us like to become well established and then dominate over every village we can find, enslaving its people an draining its resources. Others of us search for villages just to burn them down. Some of us enjoy the gritty hardships of starting over in the harsh environments, where every minute counts if you are to survive the night. there no wrong or dumb way to play Minecraft. Just different styles.

    In relation to your redstone issue, try making traps or an automated light system that turns on at night around your base. That way, your torches can be reserved for mining instead of lighting up your base. Heck, make both traps AND that light system since you have such an excess amount of redstone xD

    I'm glad this post isn't dead. I feel like the Aether would be a good addition in minecraft, and a fun new thing to explore. I like the idea of having a lot of natural causes killing you rather than mobs. It sounds cool.

    posted a message on Top 10 Things That You Didn't Know About Villagers

    Number 8 clarification/correction: A zombie villager needs to to be trapped in a way so it won't burn in daylight and so you can safely get close to it.

    Steps for transformation:

    1. Throw a splash potion of weakness at it

    2. While it has the potion effect on it, feed it a golden apple (the same way you feed animals)

    3. There will be a noise indicating that the attempt was successful

    The Zombie Villager will begin to "shake" I believe, and it will take a few minutes (real time) before the Zombie Vilager becomes just a normal Villager. This is why it needs to be trapped out of sunlight, as it will take damage even in the middle of its transformation.

    Source: I have tried this personally

    Oh, and it may be an enchanted apple OR a golden apple: one of those two. I can't remember which

    I may be up to the challenge :)

    If you have any specific needs, be sure to tell me. Otherwise, it will be left to artist imagination and interpretation. Which, I'm a LOTR fan so it wouldn't be bad :P

    But be sure to tell me any absolute must haves and they will be put in

    posted a message on Would like a new program to do textures in

    I've recently started to play around with changing textures in Minecraft (Started two days ago) and I've been using NovaSkin Resource Pack Creator and I really like it, its a good thing to start out with for just playing around and doing simple little tweaks. I love how I can create the skin and texture and it automatically puts it all together for me, and has the files already there (for example, if I want to customize a bed, it gives me the whole bed model and then changes all necessary files associated). That feature is extremely convenient, and on top of that it automatically generates the resource pack for you with the click of a button. Is there any other program out there that does those same features but is a bit more advanced in the options available?

    posted a message on Help with setblock command for custom spawners

    I have searched and searched for the answer and every one that I have found has not worked

    My command I'm using:

    /setblock ~ ~ ~ mob_spawner 0 1 {BlockEntityTag:{EntityId:Zombie}}

    /setblock ~ ~ ~ mob_spawner 0 1 {BlockEntityTag:{Id:Zombie}}

    /setblock ~ ~ ~ mob_spawner 0 1 {BlockEntityTag:{EntityId:"Zombie"}}

    /setblock ~ ~ ~ mob_spawner 0 replace {EnitityId:Zombie}

    /setblock ~ ~ ~ mob_spawner 0 replace {EntityId:"Zombie"}

    /setblock ~ ~ ~ mob_spawner 0 replace {Id:Zombie} (Also with quotes)

    This works with the /give @p command successfully, but not the setblock. I know they are different commands, but in the spoiler are my variations I tried and still get nothing but an empty spawner. I'm confused, an pretty lost. Any help would be much appreciated (:
