posted a message on Newest Update Dunked Me.
The only thing that kills me with these sorts of post is the fact they always say, "Guess I should have just bought PC minecraft". Like that is going to help them. Its as if they don't realize the same bloody thing happened to it as well, or that it will happen again should they ever add new biome elements or structures. PC minecraft isn't a solution in any way to the issue. You can say that, due to being ahead of us in updates, you would get all the stuff already there. But its foolish to think you won't also want the new things they'll add in the future as well, and foolish still to think that some of those things won't force you to start a new map for them.

I have no complaints really. I haven't found a stronghold before this update, so the first thing I did was load up creative and snag a bunch of eyes. I then zeroed in on my stronghold...looked at it...and filled it, in its entirety, with TNT. I blasted the thing into oblivion. There is now a supermassive hole where it once was. A standing, eternal, reminder of what happens when I'm forced to take the hard road in achieving something. I handled my hatred of WoW's hyenas in the barrens in much the same way...came back at level cap and laid complete waste to the zone's hyena population.

I hope, for its sake, that the nether fortress is an easy find.

posted a message on A game breaking problem
This is so funny. Its a near recounting of the story I heard about a guy who wanted to quit drinking so he tried to get the local bar closed. If you can't play a world legit, the problem is you. But its not the problem you think it is. You THINK the problem is the temptation. The problem is that you have no ideal what you enjoy in a video game at all. You want to use creative because you don't wanna spend tons of hours trying to do something, or because you don't want to lose the luck of the draw when creating a world and not having something. Here's a clue, you don't really enjoy full on survival. End of story. You enjoy survival aspects. You enjoy a health bar, and danger, and the driving purpose mobs give to the game. But full on survival mode is more than that. Its 100% surviving with what the game gives you.

For the record, I'm in the same boat. Love survival, don't love missing content. I do have full survival worlds I play with friends. Alone, nah. I do what I want, when i want to. I paid money for it, it allows me to do so. I see no reason to not enjoy what I feel like just to say I did. That happens to be why I have multiple worlds I play on.

posted a message on Those who didnt understand the skin changes. (Updated)
    Quote from XanderxDrath

guess what dude, why would 4J show the vampire etc if theres nothing changed, there may be some other changes outside animations.

The changes are stated to be be skin and animation changes. What you are suggesting here is more than that. See, when you make a game all of that stuff isn't just tied together like you assume it is. You start by creating an object. This has no form or image, its just a file that defines the parameters for the object. You then set things like how far along the vectors this object moves when a button is pressed, or what models and animations are loaded to it. The object, in this case, is "steve". This object has a specific model, or frame, assigned to it. When a skin is selected, it is pasted over that frame. Stuff like hp drain would be programming tied into object interaction, not skins. For them to make a "skin" do what you say they might, each skin would have to generate a new object with its own parameters. Or, rather, the act of selecting a skin would destroy the steve object you were playing with and create a new instance of the "hp drain steve" you're dreaming about. That object would then have the vampire skin pasted over it.
Now, the issue with this is that plenty of people are already insanely familiar with the way minecraft is currently programmed. While they certainly COULD do what you think they are...they have already said they aren't going to deviate from PCMC until after 1.2.5. Adding new objects with new valules to them is a pretty big deviation. As in, its an entirely different game. Not a bad game, perhaps. Not even a bad ideal. But it is absolutely something they have already stated they will not be doing until they reach 1.2.5 and begin considering what ways to make MC360 its own unique animal.

In short, when a person making games tells you they are changing skins and animations, they literally mean just that. A skin is just, basically, a pretty picture that gets painted over the model. Animations are just rules that govern how the model moves when input is received. The changes you are talking about are neither of those. They are changes to the object, or its collision rules. There is a clear distinction there, and its one I'm sure would have been included in the release of information from a group of folks that make games all the time.

posted a message on Do you think Minecraft Xbox 1.2.3 will have 256 height limit or no because of memory ?
My problem with this question, and its many replies, regards ANVIL. I have not researched this in depth...but I assumed ANVIL was a programming improvement for PCMC that allowed it to make better use of memory. Which means it was an improvement for the JAVA code, and how that code was delegating memory usage. ANVIL would not be doing anything for the XBMC since the language is different. In the very least WHAT it does would not be the same. The reason PCMC needed those improvements was because Notch was simply not a professional programmer when he made MC. He made mistakes, and had some sloppy code in parts. 4J is a team of experienced programmers that have had a good deal of experience working with C.

In short, a memory usage overhaul for our game would be a different animal entirely I'm guessing. In fact, its probably not even really possible. 4J has very likely already done the best they can with the hardware specs that the xbox has. The one thing ANVIL would have been great for is allowing the game to make use of, and better use of, resources the average user might have had on updated PC's. You aren't getting hardware upgrades for an xbox. Its completely set in stone. A fact that lends weight to the ideal that 4J has most likely already done, or is doing, the best they can with that set up.

Thanking you everyone, that has helped me a heap. Just finished constructing the trap within the Mineshaft but are you able to make you're own Mob spawner?

Yes and no. You can make a mob grinder anywhere...but you have to really work at it to make it a spider one. Traditional grinders spawn all kinds of mobs. You WILL get spiders in that, but not all the time. you can lower the roof over the spawning pads to limit the spawns to spiders only...as I recall...but spiders, in general, are a headache to deal with as they can scale walls. There are youtube videos that detail the process, and how to control the situation so that you can sit and soak up string. On the flip side, you get WAYYY more spawns from an actual mob spawner...so finding a cave spider spawner would be ideal as they would quickly generate more spiders as the old ones die.

posted a message on Bonus chests?
The best thing about the chest is that it can help offset day 1 hunger issues. For some reason, I've had plenty of seeds not generate any villages. Yes, you CAN kill off some cows and pigs...but they aren't coming back anytime soon. Unless you win the seed lottery...you might be in for a long wait on wheat. I've also been unlucky enough to get only 4 seeds among like...20 grass before. I guess the big thing for me is having food in the chest so that I have regen on for my first nights fighting to earn some bonemeal. It also means you can explore more of the map before night 1...maybe finding a village. Worse case scenario is that you dig a small hole in a wall and use the chest torches to light it for one night. At least with all of that, you can meal up some mushrooms in a worst case situation and eat.

And this is why that, on PC, I never play without Mo' Creatures installed. Its worth the Java crashing every 15 minutes or so just to hear and see the fauna running around. Daytime hostiles were also a plus.

posted a message on What is your favorite Minecraft meal? (1.8.2 Edition!)
Depends on you luck really. Love melons on the world I have them. Me and a pal started a pure survival world yesterday and Mushroom stew was the best for us. Resources were sparse so bonemealing mushrooms was just the best. We did have wheat farms from native villages...but they take so long to grow that its just not a good resource. For a bit there we were living on Rotten Flesh to be honest. The best food is one you can harvest often and grow fast. Without breeding that means all meat is out. Wheat takes too long. Melons take a second to get started, but grow fast after that. But mushrooms.....are everywhere. And getting bonemeal is pretty easy. So stew is where its at. Its by and far the easiest thing to get going on day one. Easier, even, if you happen to spawn near a swamp biome. You find one of each in day one, then fight some skeles on night one and you already have all the food you will ever need.

It has a good saturation value too. Best. Food. Ever.

Well done city. Others are gonna blast you for being a bit mean in your OP. That is to say, they'll let that influence what they see in your pics. It IS a good city. Assuming you did the interiors as well. If not, then its an absolute failure. Interiors are the hard part. City exteriors, unless you're trying to do something absolutely amazing and not really modern at all, are pretty easy and quick in creative.

I've wanted to do something in creative. But I just can't. I hate it. I love it. But I hate it. My creativity dies in it...somehow. In survival my builds are neat. They grow from it, evolve as I collect things. A discovery build project. In creative, I have everything on the table but nothing comes to mind.

i built an enclosed one, wasnt fond of fallin to my death :D

You can use signs to create breaks in the water and form air pockets, so long as the break isn't more than a single block you'll still be able to travel upward. I think you can even place the sign in existing water so there is no need to remove the elevator before adding these air pockets. Give it a try.

I would have thought sponge would have already become the go to currency. The host controls exactly how much is in the world, and it not naturally occurring. Its really the only thing you CAN use without monitoring everyone all the time. Plus, your currency remains at its initial value.

Staggered minecart elevator. I forget exactly how to do it, but it works because you can move from one minecart to another while sitting in one. So you move up and down as fast as you can click them. Not the prettiest thing, but effective. Water-vators work, and I use them...but they are slow. Piston elevators do not work reliably, or haven't in the past updates. I haven't tested one since 1.8 but I'm going to assume its not any better now.
    Quote from D33L33

ah.. ive built water elevators before, there quick but a set of stairs would be faster.. depends how much room you have, plus on survival water elevators can only go so high before you drown

You know you can pop your head out to breathe while still rising in the waterfall, right? You don't actually have to be fully submerged to move up water.

posted a message on Anyone grateful?
I love the update, sans a few minor things that are actually unrelated to all the crap being whined about right now. I'm playing the game again instead of going through my 4th run of Skyrim, so thats good. I just wish more was done about the animal spawns or something. Hunger is a big issue for me right now. Without melons spawning topside, animals that respawn nearly never, and wheat taking 3 days to grow....I'm getting a little burned out on trying to deal with it. So much so that I went into creative and just filled a chest with melon seeds to cope. But that is NOT a good solution, and it bugs me that they changed animal spawns without adding breeding. Its making a legit survival build nearly impossible unless ideal conditions happen at world generation. The bonus chest feature helps quite a bit, if you're LUCKY and it gives you a healthy food supply. That can earn you a few days. But a few days isn't even long enough to get wheat going, so you have to hope for spiders on your first night so that you can fish on day 2. I've made it to day 3 without food twice now, though I was avoiding killing the 2 cows that spawned near me.

I've tried making a chicken farm, using eggs to get more chickens....but out of 20 eggs I've yet to get one chicken. So...I dunno. Its a little deflating. At least we have villages, so typically there is wheat you can get from day 1. But I've had a world where 2 villages didn't generate right, and all that spawned was a half house and a well. Something about mountains, or what not. i can see how that might be an issue for others.

But after all of that, I still love the update. If for no other reason that creative mode fly sprinting all over the place.

    Quote from BeatsMeanzHighs

Someone needs to wake up and realise the is the XBOX forum not the pc forum. I wasn't playing minecraft a year ago so why would I have checked out update details at that time ? The listed log of the latest update changes made NO reference to void fog whatsoever. If you're going around accusing people of making asinine comments then it doesn't really strengthen your assertion when you miss out blindingly obvious flaws in your reasoning. Next time you might want to stop and think before posting as you've only succeeded in showing yourself to be a class A moron.

I'm going to play devils advocate here.

Yes, this is the 360 forum. But the game is a port of a PC game. Everyone knows that, its a very clear thing. Its also pretty obvious that all of the PC content will be brought over, this is a thing which has been clearly stated many times. I put serious doubt in the fact that people have not been at least glancing over the PC update lists to see what is coming, especially from forum goers here. The PC update lists have been posted here a million times by more users than I care to count. The information wasn't just presented...its been shoved in our faces, here at least, since day 1. Now a user that has never been here, or ever owned the PC game, or ever had internet, MIGHT have a case.

But those are not a terribly large group of people. Furthermore, since I'm aware of many people who actually FALL into that group personally, many of those very people still found a way to be informed of what was in store for MC360 anyway. This is an age of smart phones, PC's, and tablets and the average person in a 1st world country is literally a walking internet connection. To say they were unaware indicates that they simply had no desire to BE aware. I find it hard to really sympathize with someone who is suffering from self inflicted ignorance about something in a time in human history where knowledge can be gained in the laziest possible way.
