Most game developers don't support Linux yet (With the exception of Minecraft), so we don't have any plans to make a Linux client. We're constantly re-evaluating things like this, but we don't see it happening anytime soon.
Minecraft doesn't support Linux, MINCECRAFT does.

Oh god, do we have to kill the enderdragon with cake?
So you got Redpower in? You planning to use the micro blocks for an extra special shrine?

I still am of the opinion that people who want such and such an experience should go to mods for it, the lazy buggers.

How do you know it would take a minute? So you demand that the previous jar is toggable in game? You also claim that the old system had more appeal, but is more popular. I cannot understand how you claim more features makes things more monotonous. I think you are living proof that there is more than god, there are assholes. (uncapitalization intended). 1.7.3 did not have any perks over 1.8. I have been there, done that. If you don't like hunger, play on peaceful. If you don't like combat play on peaceful. Nobody is forcing you to try to crit, or to brew potions. Frankly, I don't believe you actually want things to be simple. You look and sound like another nostalgic fool, who doesn't like it when things are changed. Zombies dropping feathers, and diamond swords being overly OP don't improve things.
