posted a message on Is the Win10 version really this watered down?

Yep, it's that watered down.... for now. It is still in beta, after all. And it's main focus is being multiplatform and multi-input, which the PC is not. (And it's not 6 years old like the PC is).

Nope, there's no mod support. Win10 will never have mods.

However, Win10 is getting something better: add-ons.
Add-ons are "mods" written by the community just as mods are, but with a big difference: they're "future proof". You don't have to play old versions of the PC MC (foregoing the newest additions, updates, and bug fixes). Add-ons will keep on working even if Win10 gets updated.

I don't know about Rift's view distance. All I can suggest is to crank up the view distance in Options.

posted a message on F3 Support in 0.16.0

I'm sure you already know that Win10 isn't just for computers with keyboards, and that tablets and smartphones don't have any "F" keys.

I'm sure coordinates will be added at some point (maybe in 16.0) since it's a much-requested feature. However, they may do it like the consoles (that don't have any F-keys either) where coordinates are on Maps, or (my preference) is a small icon in the corner that toggles the display of coordinates off and on.

    posted a message on Questions
Wow. What a post! "Questions" is an understatement.

    * I'm not sure what you mean by "(PE) doesn't look a lot like Minecraft" or "I don't get the Minecraft feel with the PE". Of course it doesn't- it's (usually) played on a much smaller screen. Also it doesn't have all the features of the PC (java) version... yet. But they're adding them to PE/Win10 as fast as they can.

    Now for your questions:
    * Maybe, eventually. I'm glad you play the Win10 version, but there you go with the "Minecraft feel" again. Yes, PE and Win10 are missing some features (for now), but that's only temporary. To me, all the versions feel "minecrafty".
    * No, the PC's (java version) UI cant be "transferred" to Win10/PE anymore than their UI moved to the PC version. Different control schemes, etc. There are different controls for the different platforms. Win10 "conforms" to the platform you're using. The UI does change.
    * I didn't know the crafting table wasn't available in PE (I haven't played the PE in a couple of years).
    * I don't have, want, or can use Rift or Gear. Don't know about those, so "no comment".
    * An "Exit" button (when full-screen) is a much requested feature. I know they'll eventually add it, so let's see if it's in 16.0 when it comes out. (So is keyboard key reassignment).
    * Why should they fix the Task Bar icon? It's the standard MC logo. Looks fine to me. Maybe it's your computer.
    * What's wrong with the water? Depends on the Texture Pack you're using.
    * Yep, I agree. Too many nitpicks.
    * Yes, eventually, once they all have the same features, Xbox will be able to play with Win10 and PE.
    * No, Win10 will never be "modified" to run on Linux, Macs, or (the old) Windows 7 or 8.
    * No, it's "not complete". It's not called "beta" for nuthin. And you have it backwards- they're adding new Win10 features (as fast as they can) to PE. They want to keep Win10 and PE compatible and playable together, so PE is just along for the ride and gets the benefit of Win10 updates as they come out.
You have to remember that The Grand Plan is for Win10, PE, and the consoles to all "catch up" to the PC version. Considering that they have 6 years worth of catching up do, it's not gonna happen overnight- but it will happen a lot sooner than you think! Will all the versions have the same "look"? Of course not- totally different platforms. But I think a year from now we're all gonna be surprised!

posted a message on Screen Size

Rats, didn't work for me either. (I guess I should've tried it myself first, huh?).

Apparently they changed the keyboard shortcuts with Windows 10, but even those I found listed from Windows Support didn't work. Double Rats.

I'm sorry, but resizing the window in Win10 works fine for me. (I know, that's no help.)

Can you see the "X" in the upper right-hand corner (the "title bar")? Besides the "minimize" button there, if you right-click on the "title bar" there's a "maximize" drop-down option.

Also, can you move the "tiny" window? Try moving it to the top left corner and then grabbing the bottom right corner with your mouse. Can you resize it then? Does the "resize" arrow show up?

Finally, just in case, is the "full screen" option still turned on?

If the above doesn't work, I'm sorry, but I'm out of options. Maybe someone else has some bright ideas...

Have you tried the Windows Key + Up? It should maximize the window.

posted a message on Thoughs on Realms
Wouldn't it be a whole lot easier, and cheaper, to just to join someone else's server? There's several listed on the News page, and there's a "Servers" link at the top of the forum here.

I'm no Realms expert, but I think that Realms works so good because there's no "customization" and it's relatively simple and uncomplicated. I don't think that's changing.

Personally, it doesn't sound like Realms is for you since you want all this expansion and customization. It's not intended for a large player base- it's for families and smaller player bases. I don't think Realms will ever have all the features that the player-owned servers do, nor should it try to compete with them.

Even if they did expand it, you'd still have to advertise, recruit, and send emails with the password to get in. With Realms, you only need to Invite a player once- then they can come and go as they please.

posted a message on Transfer Windows 10 Beta Edition to PC minecraft?

    Sorry, no.

Nothing from the java version works in Win10 (or any other MC version for that matter), and vice-versa. (Programming language differences). Only PE and Win10 are interchangeable.... by design, of course.

posted a message on Minecraft Windows 10 edition just started to lag after running fine for months

I'm not surprised that Win10 lags when Cortana is using up half the (only) 2 gigs of memory.

    * Turn Cortana off and see if that helps

    * If it still lags, roll back the 1607 update.

    * If it still lags after all that, time to install more memory or (gulp) get better computer. You'll have to eventually anyway, and all her programs, not just MC, will appreciate it.

posted a message on Windows 10 Update Question
I too think it will end up being the "main" version of MC.

Updates do not work the say way. Since it's an (Windows Store) app and not an application, most updates are installed "automatically" for you, meaning you don't have to do anything. There has been a few updates that you need to visit the Win10 store page and hit the "Update" button. But that's it.

"Add-ons" are coming with the next update. While they work like the java version's mods, they're "different". For one thing, they are not version-specific like mods are- they will continue to work in Win10 after updates- so you don't have to play "outdated" versions of the game (like the java people do) so your mods still work. You'll be able to buy (they'll be cheap) those in the Windows Store (or just hit the "Store" button on the game's main menu.)

No, you do not have to start a new game when we get an update. I've been playing the same world through several updates. And "new" things aren't only in "new" chunks. For instance, when horses (and skelton horses) were added they showed up right outside my door.

posted a message on Everybody is pointing fingers at each other for this problem:

Sorry, but those are PE servers. Win10 can join them (though that's not officially supported yet so it's "iffy"), but there's no such thing as a "Win10 server". (The host server uses the Win10 game.)

    Do not confuse:
    * Win10 (Minecraft: Windows 10 Beta Edition) and Windows 10. One is a game, the other an operating system.
    * Win10 "supporting servers" (it doesn't) and Win10 being able to join a PE server. Two completely different things.

Also, a PE server (which does allow "plugins"), is cross-platform, so to speak. PE is for tablets and phones only, but Win10 runs on computers, tablets, and phones. So yes, computers running Win10 can hook to tablets and phones running PE, so you can consider Win10 "cross-platform" and "cross-play" (Win10 can play with PE and vice versa).

But, as of now, Win10 is only "officially" able to play with PE via LAN, Live, or Realms.
At the rate both games are being updated, I'd stick with one of the three options above. They're both changing too quick for (PE) server owners to keep up.

That said, hopefully in the near future, better (PE!) server support will be added, and Mojang will decide to come up with their own (working!) "server software" for both Win10 and PE (however, don't hold your breath- they don't even have "official server software" for the java edition yet!)

No such thing as a 'Win10 server'.

Try Realms or a PE server.

"Servers" are not supported in Win10, and Win10 does not allow "plugins".
You're talking about a PE server (which Win10 can, sometimes, join), right? (Just trying to make things clear for everybody...)

BTW, it sounds like the lack of "mobs" is a major omission.
