Having a full minecraft.jar file to download breaks the terms of use that you agreed to when you first bought the game i.e

It does later state that mods are fine (so I assume there is no problem distributing a small number of classess). Distributing the whole thing however would be a big no no. The whole reason for this is because with the jar you have basically given out the whole game which people can use without paying a single cent.

Even if this wasn't the case, your idea wouldn't work very well anyway. Implemented the way you did you would only be able to use 1 mod at a time (unless 2 mods use the EXACT same APIS). It really doesn't make sense to download the whole jar when there are only a subset of those files that are needed.

In saying that, I was toying with an idea for an online mod installer. Right now it only works for Forge mods (as that is all I make)

Wow, you really did your reserch, thanks for helping, (I'm not being sarcastic either) I do wish it would have worked though!
but just so you know, puting up the minecraft.jar is not fully relesing the game, otherwise it would be the only file in .minecraft, also mojang releases minecraft.jar files all the time for snapshots. but I guess it still would be releasing it from someone who didn't create minecraft.
you're right when saying "Implemented the way you did you would only be able to use 1 mod at a time" I didn't really think about it, as being more of a vanilla player, I don't really play with more than one mod at a time. (apart from playing FTB anyway)
I guess we'll just have to wait for something to be realesed for easier mod installing.
I hope your internet thing works for more than the forge mods

But it is illegal. Making videos about a game and fully releasing a game are totally different. And most mods now go into the /mods folder so....

I don't know much about leagalities, but it seems that just putting up a minecraft.jar file is not fully relesing the game in any way shape or form, otherwise mojang would not put up the snapshot files for anyone to download.
    thanks for informing me though

    Hello Everyone,

Mods are great, but installing them, not so much. The other day I was brainstorming about how people could make installing mods extremely easy. The only way so far that I've seen this done is with launchers and external programs, but creating a launcher for each mod would be memory intensive and annoying to code. I wanted to come up with an idea that would help end users easily download and play with mods without creating crap loads of work for the mod makers.

And then it hit me, mods should be downloaded just like the newest snapshots. Modders should just put the modded minecraft.jar file up for download instead of the individual mod files. This would put an end to all the extensive troubleshooting that goes with playing with mods.

As for copyright infringement, youtubers make livings off of minecraft with mojang full knowing, so I don't think mojang would care if modders just put up the minecraft.jar,
as for providing a minecraft.jar file for free, mojang already does that with the weekly snapshots.

(feel free to tell me what you think about my idea, and don't be shy about constructive criticism)

    Hope my idea helps,

    -Myself

Also If someone else already came up with this, Im sorry and in no way want to steal anyone's ideas!

Crap, tried my seed again in 1.4.2 and it doesn't have a tree,

    the seed was 50

    sorry :(

As far as i knew the world generation wasn't changed in 1.4 but i guess i was wrong. it should still work in 1.3 though, just choose large biomes, and if a tree doesn't show up you can just spawn one in using the open to Lan feature

I've made a PVP map in my spare time: http://www.minecraft...34616-the-cube/

The only thing im not so sure about is the mobs picking up your stuff. If anyone follows etho (youtube.com/ethoslab) they might remember a time when he died, a zombie picked up his stuff and then despawned because etho's bed was so far away. Was this fixed?

I’ve made a MineCraft PVP map I call it, The Cube. I’m fairly new to map making so all feedback will be highly appreciated. Hope you find this fun!

The Cube is a digging map; each of four teams start on one side of a giant stone cube (50 x 50 x 50 blocks). A giant supply of TNT is provided for “mining.” The object of the game is to dig down to the bottom middle of the cube and lure a pig back up to an assigned enclosure. Learning how to do shaped charges might help in the playing of this map. There are also chests hidden inside the “arena” with armor, bows, and a bunch of other useful stuff in them. There are all sorts of things at the teams bases and in the hidden chests so there is room for many different tactics. Players can re spawn during the game as long as they spawn from their bed, the second that the bed is destroyed the player cannot re enter the game.

map updated for 1.4.5(carrots added): http://www.mediafire.com/?czve7l4cgvg759t

Players : 4-8 (but there is no redstone contraptions so not having the right number can't mess them up!)

Instructions are written in a book in a chest, if I decide to do a bit of a "map trailer" I'll post the link to that as well.

Here is a video of us testing the prototype of this map, we hadn't figured out the rules yet so it's a bit different than the game should be played! We also didn't have enough players when we were testing it so this is actually with 3, not only that but be had an issue with someone logging on to the server in the middle of our game.
If anyone makes a better video of playing the map, ill post that one instead. (Take this as a challenge)
