Is everyone forgetting about... External Batteries?

    Where is this coming from?
If I game on vacation or anywhere, that's not at home. There's usually a power outlet near by. I.E on the airplane, a hotel, you can even get a cigarette lighter to AC plug gizmo for car use.

You just answered it, I guess I worded it poorly. So, only put the 3 pin fan connectors and don't use the molexs? Do I just let them hang off the wire. Also, my mobo has a cha-fan 1 - 3, but I can only reach 1 and 3, is that OK?

    Cha-fan?
I assume that's like SYSFAN, just a different name. Anyways, you don't have to connect 1 and 2, to have CHA-FAN 3 work.

posted a message on New Alienware M17X R5 doesn't seem too bad (DISCUSSION)
    Quote from pladies89

I have an M17x r3, cannot say I have any regrets buying it. I never had any type of overheating issues, I've played games like WOW, Skyrim, crysis 3 and minecraft all day without any issues. I would recommend a cooling mat to go under it as it will further protect your investment but it is not needed. I would not put the laptop on your lap as the fan intake vents will be block which will cause the system to overheat, but that should just be common sense. As for battery life the M17x comes with swtichable GPU by pressing fn+I/D GFX which switches to a power saving GPU which is good for saving battery last about 4-5 hours if not gaming. As for it being expensive, it is a gaming laptop and it preforms as well as a high end desktop with *premium laptop parts*. With Clevo/Sager your getting a laptop with "desk top parts" placed into a thick laptop case, battery is sucked dry in 30 mins.

If you can afford an Alienware Laptop, get one very good quality, portable, screen resolution is amazing, better warranty (does not void when upgrading GPU or adding ram). Your always going to have people complain about what you buy, these people that are telling you that it's to expensive I'm willing to bet that they never touched a quality gaming laptop such as Alienware, Clevo or Sager.

Your point on the Sager Np9590 is very invalid. That is workstation replacement, that is somewhat portable, not for on the go use, but maybe from office to home. The NP9590 does dual high end GPUs, and a 2011 CPU. I wouldn't call that a notebook that was ever thought with portability or battery use in mind. There is really no negative content against Clevo or Sager on these forums.
It doesn't make sense when people say "if you can afford something, go get it." In this case you can obtain the same laptop, with a different chassis from Sager for less. Unless you're made of money and are crazy rich, I don't see why people shouldn't try saving money. Not to mention Alienwares take forever to produce and ship out to you. I'm still waiting on my friend's, that will arrive in 23 days. Which is a month from the order date. Dell's customer service is pretty good, but they didn't send me email saying that they cancelled my order. Just unacceptable, I personally will buy a Sager or Clevo from XoticPC, even though it is international, it's sure as heck a lot faster than Alienware.

Some people don't like building themselves, you have to wait and order all the parts seperately, then spend a few hours building it, and one simple power mistake fries the system.

    To OP :
Should run Minecraft fine, but i'd recommend upgrading your Graphics card. And possible too an i5, instead of an i3

LOL. Sure let's talk about Alienware. I've been on the hate side, and the supporting side of this discussion. My friend wanted an Alienware M17x R5, but he is in China. I ordered it 2 weeks ago. It got cancelled for no reason, I didn't get an email, nothing. I reordered it again yesterday, and the ETA is on 7/24. The last ETA was 7/22 by the way. So I have to wait close to a month to get a laptop to my friend. Now, let's talk about building my own computer. I ordered the parts on Sunday, everything arrived by Wednesday. That's 4 days, and 3 hours to build the computer. On top of the shorter time to build your own, you also gain more knowledge on computers. If something goes wrong, odds are you know what has happened, and you can replace it without a hassle.
Edit: If I don't get the laptop by 7/26, then I can't give it to him. Alienware's customer service is alright, but the fact that I don't get an email when the freaking order is cancelled, is unacceptable.

If someone wants LEDs that are customizable in a desktop, just get the NZXT hue. Or in a laptop, ask XoticPCs to custom install one for you. May cost close to 99$+, but it's still a lot cheaper than Alienware.

posted a message on Physical Hardware Breaking in Prebuilts Proof
    Quote from Mordin Solus

The Dell in question had a battery fault it wasn't anything to do with the internal components and yes the battery probably wasn't the best to begin with but when it comes to desktops there obviously isn't a battery. Again there does seem to be a misconception about prebuilts catching fire I think it's simply exaggeration to prevent people from buying from some of these manufacturers and to build their own. On the other hand if prebuilts were always catching fire I'm sure the law would of had something to say about it and many of these manufacturers would probably no longer exist.

Before anyone asks I built my own PC and I don't own a prebuilt of any kind but I have of course used them and never really had any problems with them.

Agreed. However, a PSU is like a battery. Bad ones go boom too :3

Don't see why you're watercooling a not-super-high-end PC, especially CPU only, you could get way more performance by getting better parts on air.

Your choice though, it's a good build and I'm looking forward to the build log :D

It's like a hobby, something to explore into. I want to do watercooling myself sometime soon. With a switch 810, it wouldn't be a bad idea.

Ok I went with a seasonnic one with black cables. I know right, gigabyte, msi, and asrock I prefer ove asus

    Oh no, no, no.
Asrock's Z77 line up have been just sneaky. They used outdated Mosfets in their extreme boards, pro series etc. Just a bad idea. The Mosfets that they used are generally found in cheap 80$ or less motherboards. They create heat issues and voltage problems too.
I'm not saying that ASUS is bad, since they are the top motherboard manufacturer, however, saying that their boards dominate over all, is a far fetched statement.
The only Asrock z77 board without the bad mosfets is the Z77 OC Formula.

    @The seasonic X650 purchase. I give you a thumbs up. B)

I rated you 5 starts already. From like 30 min ago.
Get a 650W power supply. Or one with black cables.
I'm giving you a +1, since that is a really good build.
Nice to see people picking Gigabyte boards, and not just jumping to ASUS, thinking that all their boards are the best.

Yes, you are very helpful. I + 1'd you :D . I switch to that 840. Ok, I'll make sure I got the proper fans. Oh and btw the 840 is actually only $89! :D

It‘s a lot more stable than the Vertex 3, Not as fast, but more reliable.

Also, for fittings, I would rather get the XSPC ones, since they do come in black, if that's what you want.

I think I'll just stay with the swiftech fittings. The apogee drive II seems way too expensive. I will probaby get the Koolance CPU-308I Like FrozenOblivion says. I switeched the mobo out though, thanks.

I switched the cpu block to the koolance one. I switched to the XSPC EX240 dual 120mm for the rad. As for the res gos I'm going to stick with xspc because its nice and cheap. I could care less about the noise as long as it performs well. I switched to the gelid silent fans. Here is how my watercooling build looks like so far:

    Koolance CPU-380I block
    XSPC EX240 Dual 120mm rad
XSPC Dual Bay Res w/ MCP655 pump
6 feet of primoChill PrimoFlex 1/2 3/4 tubesing
x 8 swiftech "lokseal" compression fittings
x 2 Gelid 120mm Silent fans (for the rad)

I will be using distilled water for cooling. I also heard that adding a touch of dishwasher soap to it will keep it cleaner, and keep away bubbles? Is that safe to do that?

Total cost for everything right now: a little under $1500

Also Im right now thinking about the ocz vertex 3 max IOPS 120gb ssd. Is that a good one? Any good ssd's for under $120? Thanks

Samsung 840 120GB can be found for only 99$~
I do recall posts on OCN where people had vibration noise from the res. They put their finger on it to stop it. So, the noise should be pretty annoying, but do what you will. Also, make sure that you get the proper Gelid Silent 12 fans. They come in PWM and 3pin.
    +1 me?

EDIT: Pretty sure that the dishwater soap is safe. But really there isn't any point. Bubbles can go away within 2-3 days.
